    Try running the loader in second gear when the sand pit is wet, it won't spin as easily but you still have the RPM for your hydraulics. Loading gravel we would do this, it helps alot. Keep smilin

    That is why they call Saskatchewan “ The Land Of The Living Skies “. Sun, rain, hail, tornados.... If you don’t like the weather just wait a few minutes. Being a producer at the whim of Mother Nature is always one big crap shoot. This late in the season hopefully your canola is far enough along to yield something respectable.

    Just a thought here, instead of wasting all that rain water that falls off of the barn roof, maybe you should install a water catchment system two 30 thousand gallon water tanks is allot of back up water. When winter comes around disconnect the down spouts so you don't have to
    deal with anything freezing.

    The farm where I help at; Cut ~ 160 acres of canola silage and it turned into a nightmare for mature only beef cattle feed, and they lost quite a few head of cattle and even by trying to use that canola silage minimally. Ended up writing off ~ 600 tons of that 2020 year canola silage by the end of this spring, and likely be spreading it like manure this fall after the crops are off. It's possible to use it for silage if in the right stage of growth, but be prepared for the accompanying headaches and cattle loss and smaller calves come springtime with similar losses and health issues for months afterwards.

  • @organbuilder272
    @organbuilder272 Před 2 lety +7

    Pitter-Patter... That is classic. Yo, Jan, you have an interesting streak of humor. Sad about the canola. This year farmers have not had a good season. You are not alone in your misery. That doesn't help, but it can only get worse = as predicted. The sky when you were taking the tak to the field (Fst Fwd) is beautiful. No hint of destruction.

    I know sea gulls like garbage but had no idea they would crowd feed on a manure pit! How far do those birds come to feed there anyway? Also, does that make their 'crap' more toxic? Here in So CA sea gulls love to sit on the light poles in my parking lot for the Metro commuter train all day and crap all over any car parked under the light--even worse it seems they always targeted the windshield and driver's door handle. Those were always the last spots taken. Many times I had no choice because of an occasional late commute, but at least the light was on when I got back.

      A roof over more of the outside corrals would be a much better investment.

  • @rajendradathkalipersad1294

    Is it feasibly to install a system to collect biogas from the manure...and use it to generate electricity to power the farm or sell back to the grid ?

    • @timothymbonham4453
      @timothymbonham4453 Před 2 lety

      No.
      1. Would have to invest a lot into building such a system.
      2. The manure is more valuable as fertilizer for their fields than the small amount they would get for the generation. Electricity is cheaper than fertilizer.

    I have frequently seen roofs built on the ground but fairly close to the building to be roofed. This roof appeared to be quite some distance from the building Would be nice to see footage of the lifting and placement.
