Great video, Jan. Love the drive over shots. Maybe you want to still order a $2400 tire so that you have one on hand as a spare so you don’t need to spend twice as much on a rushed order next time. Those prices are unbelievable. Seems like some major gouging happening.

If the rye will be covered by the snow it should by good as this should not be long lasting freeze. I seeded spring barley this fall and we had -15 ať night in january for 3 days. And the barley was covered by 2 cm od snow and IT survived. But other farms that didn't have the snow were not so lucky.

Tjonge jonge! Thats expensive. Just an idea, but maybe a place like Gratton Coullee, or Combine World, might have something from a salvage machine. Had an opportunity to travel from our home in Lacombe, to our daughters new home in Yorkton a month ago. Went right past Asquith, so now I have a better idea of your location. Having been a viewer for 3 years, it was good to travel past your location to get a good sense of the lay of the land. Good to see Vader on camera every now and then. It's not everyones cup of tea, but given the success of your channel, he is a fairly important part of the whole operation. I, for one, would enjoy seeing and hearing, a bit more from him. Maybe it's a work in progress. Love the videos, and appreciate your integrity. It's not easy to put yourself out there, but as a viewer, it's just so interesting to see the real side of farming in Western Canada. Keep up the excellent work all.

Holy crap I was trying to take a guess at the price of that tire, I knew it would be pricey but I didn’t comprehend how pricey. No pun intended but that has to be deflating. That and the fact when you look outside it looks more like November than April right now. This snow has a lot of moisture and with highs of + 17 for next week this year may have two run off events! The silver lining in the snow cloud. If farming was easy everybody would be doing it.💪

Well a lot of parts are made to be "unique" these days. IE Griggs farms had a turbo go out and got it rebuilt, but simply taking the injectors out screwed all the posts on them because they are designed to be one time use. So they have to replace some injectors, the whole wiring harness etc because Case used very soft brass posts and nuts. So a 400$ turbo fix will be in the range of 5k now.

As others have commented, I don't think the freezing temperatures will hurt your rye much. A winter seeded crop like that becomes very tolerant to early season frost. It probably slows it down somewhat but likely won't seriously hurt it. That's unlike a spring seeded crop. If it was a spring crop that got -11 C temp then I'd guess it might not kill it completely but a lot of it would die. Plants are pretty amazing what they can take. If they couldn't take it, early frosts would kill them and natural selection would take it's course.
