  • In this adventure, we metal-detected a river and a railroad bridge crossing. We saw many natural wonders and found some railroad and Civil War relics, plus an old large copper cent.

    Rivers are filled with so much junk. All the floods, used as a trash pit etc.... Its amazing you find nuggets of artifacts. I hunted for years and had access to battlefield rivers in VA but was overwhelmed by so much metal.

    I would love to try this in Kentucky but I don't know where I would try. Plenty of battles even in our town but I wouldn't know where to start.

    Nice finds. The big spring is suspension for the axles on a box car. It will be a nice bit of steel if you were into forging steel into knives.

    Definitely a coil spring from railroad car. The come in various sizes so it's hard to say what type of car.

    I like the Civil War things that you found today. I found the railroad stuff quite interesting. My husband was a blacksmith, and he would take old railroad spikes and turn them into tools. So whenever we went to the yard sale, that was the first thing he asked about.
    I saw a snippet of you in England doing that hunting for history. I would love to know how I could find them to watch them Kathy.

      A blacksmith friend of mine took a railroad spike and tied it in a knot for a paperweight.

      My husband used to take them and make shucking knives. To open clams.
      Everything my husband made was for practical uses. But making it tied up paperweight is really cool.

    Were you having allergy issues? I noticed your throat sounded more closed than in the beginning of your video. Something I noticed, as I have a lot of environmental allergens that caused my throat closed down. I love your videos and I hope you’re doing well. Sending peace and love to you and your family.

    Sir will you show us your coin collection. I presume those of the Civil war and Independence may have also lost larger denominations than a cent etc.
    Furthermore is the cent the smallest sum ? We in the UK had half penny's and farthings (a quarter of a penny) there was a time they would literally cut coins in half and quarters. ( I think you may have found something on River Hunters).

    Chigg, I've been wanting to get into metal detecting, but I have to use a power wheelchair. Would the electric motors on my chair have any effect on the metal detector? I've emailed Garrett but haven't received any answers. If anyone has any idea, please let me know! Thank you

      Any metal near the coil would be a problem. The electric current in the motor probably would not affect it too much, but electric lines, even buried ones, sometimes do, so I can't say for sure.
