You are a monster bro. Your builds are getting more and more professionals. You are an artist my friend.
Thanks Marco, I try my best, you are doing a fantastic job on your channel as well 😁
Add to fav! You're still the best Adam! Thanks for all your amazing job! Love you men 😊👍👋
Thanks Gianfranco!
@@Adamstech ❤
So awesome!
This is something else than the emulators I normally cover :P
I just want to say thanks for watching my videos, you actually stuck up around from my beginning!
Very high quality video!
Amazing, I will be trying this next weekend!!!
Join us on our FB group if you need help and drop some pics when you done :D
Great piece :) compliments Adam
Thanks a lot, Gio!
love this video thank you adam
Thanks for watching it and I am glad that you enjoyed it!
Sorry this is the tutorial I needed cause I want to do this build with a pi 3 A instead of the pi zero! thanks!
Hahah
beautiful work, makes me want to get funky with my pi thats been sat gathering dust 😁👍👍👍👍✊
I like this build. But can i request that you get a little more specific in the wiring. Some parts you state " just wire it to ____." But don't show or state how to wire it.
I really want to do this since the A+ came out, but do not want to risk wiring it wrong and possibly burning out the unit.
This is my 3rd video on the subject, I can't make the same video 3 times, some things need to be skipped otherwise CZcams sees it as a duplicate upload and get's deleted, you can check out my other 2 videos where you get more details, if is something that you don't feel sure just ask and I am here to help
That power boost module is rated at 1A you will barely be able to have enough current for the pi to run retropie with that and you will be getting the lightning bolt symbol at boot and when you are running CPU and power hungry games. You need at least 2A for this build.
@Niko Niko Any suggestion on a better powerboost module? Thanks!
FitnessMtl there are a few boost buck converters rated at 2 amps on Ali express
Adam, how is the pi and DPI fixed in the case? I am up to this stage on my build and cannot see how you have fixed it in the case. Thanks
Can you tell me what contact cement you are using here? I can't find that kind anywhere and I'd like to have a more liquid type with needle applicator all-in-one.
Hello, I'm Franklin, from US, Alaska. Great guide, and very bold doing this in English. Thanks for documenting your work. If you would like to chat sometime and I would like to talk about Raspberry Pi 3 and hobby projects. I'm building my own handheld with my own 3d printed parts, and different stuff I found looking around online.
Hi Franklin, glad that you liked the tutorial! If you are on FB or Instagram add me and we can chat more there! I look forward for your message
What type of speaker & screen did he say? I couldn’t understand.
Is the case the original 1980's gameboy size and design?
Nice build video :)
Thanks 😊
thank you men for this incredible video :) please can you make another tutorial for game boy with pi4
I am almost finished editing pi3b+ and started pi4, that is a pb as retropie doesn't work properly on it yet
Can someone please help me get a parts list together? I really would like to build this. I checked the links but I'm unsure what exactly I need.
wow this is my dream! i'll try that.
but tinkerboy recommend pi3 wire direct to power supply. can you tell me why you diden't?
Because he recommended it after I found out that it might have voltage drops and shared my feedback
How hot does this build get? How many mah does your battery get and how long does a full charge last?
It gets a bit hot, but some tweaks in the clock speed and you can keep it down, the battery has 5000 maH and it's run time is around 4 hours of gaming now depending of your load.
Hey bro, great video, may i ask what battery did you use?
I used a 5000 mAh Bluutech one
does anyone have any idea on how to make this so it can accept gameboy cartridges?
So how long did this take to build? Also, what if you have never built something like this before or soldered electronics before.
If you never soldered, make some practice solders on a pcb and take your time, it can take up to 1 week or so depending on how many hours you put a day, I can build one in 3 - 4 hours
is it possible to wire 2 psp analog sticks on the tinkerboy controller v3?
Yeah, you will need psp1000 to wire them directly, if you want psv2000 ones you will need helper boards
from the corner of the gameboy how far is the psp stick? I'm interested in putting a stick, thanks
It doesn't have to be a specific dimension, just make sure it does fit how you want it, mine is 70mm away from the case
i have problems with my tinkerboy buttons know reacting when im pressing htem down. what do u think? did i waste money?
Enter in Facebook and send me some pictures, I might help!
What gauge wire was used in this bulld?
Awesome video btw 👍
Hi, for power I use 24 gauge and for the data and the rest I use the wires from inside a USB cable
How would this build change if you used the inkerBOY Controller V3.0 for Game Boy Zero mod?
I have a video on V3 with a pi0, I am working on another pi3A+ video where I will show wiring, you can join is on FB where we are a community of builders that can help!
In the next video I will get into wiring a bit more
Excellent work; does anyone know where else to get the tinkerBOY DPI Adapter v1.0? TinkerBOY is out of stock on that item on his website.
He is the only one selling them, sad as I want to get a stock of them but we are not there yet.
@@Adamstech Okay, thanks for the update. By the way, thank you for the time and effort that you put into your videos. They are of great quality and extremely helpful and inspiring. Keep up the great work, Adam!
@@LewinFilmProductions Thanks for that, I appreciate it!
When you plugged it in to see if it works, was there some sort of light?
When do you mean?
@@Adamstech at 6:19.
@@dwaynedesa1749 You can clearly see the lights turning on :D yeah with an SD card inside it should turn on
hey I built this but Im having a yellow bolt appear and the gameboy randomly resets. I was wondering what you did to underclock yours?
You need 24 gauge wires, and just wire another rail of power to the back of the pi, not 5v from the DPI, last batches of DPI need this in order to work, I let Tinkerboy know he has it in his website now at guide section. Have a look there
@@Adamstech i didnt end up using the dpi adapter. I wired a car monitor from amazon straight to the PI
you need thicker wires then, it shouldn't even have a problem, also specify the parts you used because as per your comment I understood that you got all the parts like mine
does it also work with a raspberry pi 3 or only with a +
It works with any version of Pi
Hey there, do you think izs possible to put a Pi3B+ inside instead of a A+?
Yes I already have a video on that
@@Adamstech Do you know the name? I cant find it. Xd
@@AronDubstepMusic Is on my channel, Pi3B+ gameboy and you should find it
What power boost do you use?
Adafruit 1000C
Is Powerboost 1000C enough for power it under high load?
Well it is enough but you need to tweak the voltage and it should be fine, we will have a new powerboost from Tinkerboy soon that can handle it perfectly
Adam Builds Hi, I am actually doing something very similar, and I plan on using an adafruit powerboost 1000c to power my rpi 3a+ too. What do you mean by « you need to tweak the voltage » ?
That’s a really nice build btw, I would love mine to end up looking like yours !
@@w2ex215 Hi, I mean to underclock the Pi, but instead of using the 1000C try Helders PSU, or you can go with this a cheaper one MP2636 Power Booster & Charger Module, you can find it on Pimoroni.com, this one works fine as well!
@@Adamstech what underclock setting did you use?
What are all the parts you used
The majority of the parts, along with modified cases you will find them here www.8bitcustoms.com/
Do all these parts fit in the original gameboy case?
They have to in order to work :D
@@Adamstech didn't know if you were using the case off 8bitcustoms, didn't know if they were actual size of the original.
Yeah I am using those, are the same used in my videos
Brother, been waiting for a tutorial like this for years.. Pi3 in Gameboy.. So any ideas of getting HDMI out?
In this configuration is not really possible, I think the dpi configuration makes the hdmi unusable, I have to look into it!
My screen that I used in my custom handheld uses a 5 inch screen with a hdmi port, like a regular monitor. So I found a handy diy part for that, *"5Pcs HDMI Type A Male 19Pin Gold Plate PCB Socket Solder Connector DIY Part."* And I just use thin gauge wire. You can find all sorts of ways to connect a screen to a Rpi.
@@Adamstech Currently the way I have RetroPie and Stretch build is, HDMI detect , then uses a different /boot/config.txt file .. Not sure why an HDMI out wouldn't work. They have small male to female HDMI extension cables.
@@AngryRamboShow I didn't understand this one..
@@WilsonBradleyTheOfficial Well, I don't think Rpi 3 can do 2 monitors at once, so you have to pick either spi or hdmi. But if you want to set up a screen that has hdmi in, you could use 2 of those HDMI male connectors to neatly arrange everthing inside a small case. I suggest using those HDMI male connectors because with some thin wire and 38 soldering points you can custom fit the cabling to your exact specifications.
Where did u got that 3d printed parts? Did u made it ur self? If yes can u send me the file for them?
www.thingiverse.com/thing:2311662 there you go
@@Adamstech Thank you! Realy helped me out :D This is going to be a great present :3
Glad that I helped
hi how much is this
To be honest I don't know with all added up, around 200 GBP
try this with a raspberry pi 3b+ as it is more powerfull and can run n64 games pls
I might do it in the future :D is just that you need to cut a big part of the Pi
Adam Builds maybe boards are diferent or something
They are different yeah
Adam Builds how much would it be? Not counting with the raspberry pi or the casd or the battery
They are the same thing
Can you play fortnite or Minecraft on this?
Yes with Steam Link :D
What’s that?
Plz tell me what steam link is
You stream the games from your pc to your pi and can be controlled trough your Gameboy controlls
U should of used subtitles.
