Hey Wermy, good to see you out and about. I appreciate you acknowledging the current situation; a lot of youtubers are just continuing like nothing is happening and it feels weird.
Wow, my favorite built to the date. And is so pleasant to see the way you work and explain the process in the video. Hope I can get one of these someday...
I have recently really gotten into retro gaming and consoles. I bought a Sega Genesis Mini. Ordered two of the licensed 6 button controllers. I'm not very keen on doing in depth mods with a PC, so I'ma send it to a pro modder when I get paid again to have the system overclocked and get most Genesis games on a USB. My father in law noticed my enthusiasm and gave me an original SNES console with two controllers and 23 games! I need to get component cables for it though. After I finish my Genesis and SNES projects I wanna do something with a Gameboy or Game Gear. Glad there are channels like this that fuel my new hobby and teach me things I would've never known otherwise. Thank you.
Love seeing these videos!!! I get that it's very easy to get into a funk and lose motivation to do what we love so much. I'm printing up some shields and straps like many others so that is a great start to helping fix a bigger problem. If doing nothing else helps you right now, do nothing at all!!! I've been seeing a lot of my subscribed youtuber's pushing out more content than usual and it's personally annoying. You do what you feel is right for you and your family so don't worry about what we feel. I liked this a lot! Any chance someone has a link to a Game Boy shell that we can print to make these projects? Any other good projects to print up you'd recommend?
You already do play it natively on the switch. Apart from the screen, it's not that much bigger... The same components go inside smartphones. What's difficult is emulation which requires a whole lot more cpu/gpu performance than native.
Even worse considering you are putting a battery just on top the compute module, so not only the cm is getting hot, but the battery aswell, not a good combination. To be fair, there's not a lot of room on a gameboy pocket and the DDR2 socket is a little bit high too...
Still haven’t put my circuit sword together! I know the process is MUCH easier than the spare parts zero I built off of your first videos, but the first step is the hardest! Lol
@KellyVanHalen Your just the person i want to talk to. Any way you could provide us with a approx price breakdown for this project? A few of us would greatly appreciate it!!
great video! love to see the joystick being added. I'm thinking of making my own build. what is the ideal button layout of emulation up n64? I have seen builds like this with back buttons and 6 actions buttons and a joystick. is that necessary ?
I’m looking into doing a similar build for the circuit shield and really like the Nintendo switch thumb-stick on the psp analog stick and was wondering how you did that.
I think you'd be far better off using a safe edge file in some of the places where you used a craft knife here, particularly in cutting the slot for the HDMI port.
Man I wanna do a project like this but I just don’t have the money or skill in soldering to do it. I can get wires sure, but tiny pads are hell for me to get right.
I've been following you creations since i came across the minty pi. Whenever parts came out i was never able to get any. Any news on the minty pi part orders?
Hey Wermy! Are there any configurations you have to make to run the CM3+? I put one in my Circuit Shield and it doesn’t boot.. I assumed Kite’s github file for the shield would work, however it doesn’t. Any ideas?
Plenty of people! There’s a decently large modding and DIY community when it comes to Gameboy stuff. If you’re looking for a prebuilt option, there’s already plenty of Gameboy emulator hardware available to buy, for much less than this. This specific option was intentionally designed for the DIY community so people could build a fully custom one.
I think you should do a tutorial on running Android on switch and installing ROMs on it. A lot of us already own a switch and want to make a handheld emulator but don’t have the time or money to do it.
Wermy, when you and Helder release the MintyPi Lite will you keep selling the MintyPi v3 parts? I ask because I like some of the features included with the V3 Parts. Please respond if you can
@@jrok96 All in, it'll come out just under $200 depending on shipping to your country and where you get your shell, buttons etc. If you get wermy's 3D printed parts and Bluish Squirrel's glass lens, that'll add another $30-40
Interesting! this board could be configured to have an ABC, XYZ for 6 button genesis and arcade gameplay, also 4 direction buttons, an A & B button and analogue for N64 gameplay, but no shoulder buttons eh? ... why does every handheld these days have to have seemingly everything yet omits (at least) one random feature that just breaks it for me?? =/ Edit: ohhh, it does have L and R buttons..... still missing second analogue, still though, pretty awesome game boy! =D
Id love Something Like this with the Pi 4. I know that the battery life would not be great, but... Ps with double Resolution. N64 with good Performance, besides some issues loading stuff in.... Even ps 2 emulation if you overclock it!
I think it's a very good idea but Raspberry Zero is a weak solution. While emulating games even on Raspberry Pi 3, I noticed problems with game dynamics such as stuttering frames, music, etc.

Sorry the audio is a little all over the place in this one! 😅 How are you guys holding up out there? Crazy stressed, crazy bored, or both?
wermy waiting for this video to come out
Both. Still waiting for Helder to make more PCB boards.
Both for sure. My highschool decided that they are going to give us even more work.
@@cwriley80 They got shipped today so will have them next week.
@@Angryhelder thanks for the quick response. I'll be ready for it.
Hey Wermy, good to see you out and about. I appreciate you acknowledging the current situation; a lot of youtubers are just continuing like nothing is happening and it feels weird.
Love your work so much, you inspire me a lot and hope that i will make my own project in the next months

I so appreciate everything you do wermy! Thank you!
Good on you for helping out the community. I respect that.
I love these projects so much!
Man I am a sucker when it comes for these retro handhelds!
I ordered 2 just recently, the RG350 and Retroid Pocket.
Can't WAIT to get my hands on them

I think it’s really cool that you’re using your resources to make face shields
Hope you and your family are well God bless!
ive always wanted to do this but could never figure out where to start. I love your creations, even though I haven't tried to make any yet.
Nice collection of handhelds in the back ground. First time to your channel and subscribed.
Great T-shirt! Took me a second to place those graphics... =)
Damn! That's an awesome build. 😎

Das nenne ich auf jeden Fall mal einen richtig guten Emulator Gameboy pocket
Awesome build.
Excellent
in the future we're gonna be playing BotW and SMO on things this small.
Ovona Ovano yeah that could take a while
@@planty6934 oh come on you can play doom on a calculator and John Carmack thought you couldn't play doom on a amiga

@@planty6934 The GPD line of devices can do this and it's crazy awesome :)
The future is now old man, switch lite is not much bigger my dude. Only 200 bucks.
I think I'm ready for this.
Great video man!
Yes! He has uploaded
I am really excited for that cartridge macro pad
great video wermy! love the details of your video. most of the parts are no available btw, probably due to the issues.
It would be really cool if there was a pre-modified STL of the shell so a custom shell could just be printed on a resin printer.
Agree 100%
I’m working on one for the Gaboze Pocaio.
Any concerns about cooling? The compute module can get hot!
This is not for an exhaust play.

Not to mention that the battery is on top of the Compute Module.
I love the videos!
Since the board has wifi built in, it maybe possible to play pc games via steam link. Imagine playing Minecraft or Stardew Valley on a gameboy.
Nice and easy with all those 3D printed parts :)

1:37 Cmon TARS. Had an interstellar movie moment there
I noticed you've lost weight. You doing okay? Stay safe and thanks for all your hard work.
That was actually intentional, been working on that since the new year. :) I appreciate the concern!
Congrats, its awesome!
Do you plan to do the same but with a gameboy advance sp case ? Would be great.
Have a nice day

I can’t wait till they make one for the CM4
Ooooh, I want one :D
Great video wermy. What tact switches and caps are you using? I can’t find any good silicon capped switches that are small enough 😒
Waooo, excelent video, beautifull work.
I think you'd be far better off using a safe edge file in some of the places where you used a craft knife here, particularly in cutting the slot for the HDMI port.
Ds also runs well on the pi 3! Setting up drastic is kinda a pain but once you get it it is really nice
Good luck playing games that need touch screen though.
Compute module 3 comes up as some sort of body control module for a BMW when I search for it lol
Probably cuz you need to include “raspberry pi” in the search query LOL
Im looking forward to this gameboy cartridge numpad/macro pad
Thanks
awesome work really like watching your projects im waiting on electronics for the mintypi build. how big is your co2 laser cutter??
Pretty sure it’s a glowforge laser, so it would have a 20” x 12” work area
Can we get a nice finished case that already has the cutouts? Maybe a 3D printed case?
Really wish I found this vid sooner :(
i cant believe i missed the pre-orders...
My gb boy colour broke perfect!
Cooooooool

@wermy how does CM3+ impact the performance boost vs cm3?
Could you do a video on your game systems/game collections?
Honnestly how many people are gonna do that lol

any good model 4 pi gameboy projects? i have a 3 and a 4 sitting around and would rather have a handheld

How do you add roms to it
Where did you get that shirt, bruh??? I need it.
what is the program being used at 5:19? Is it free and is that what is use to build those amazing models?
Its AutoCAD Fusion 360, you can get a personal use license for free.
I been looking for a modded Gameboy pocket. Do you sell them already assemble?
I know you probably are not sure about this but when do you think helders parts will be available for the minty 3?
next week

can I buy some of your work?
