- There was a time when it wasn't difficult to imagine Deerhunter as a band that could be as big as Arcade Fire or The National. In fact, it seemed like part of Bradford Cox's plan all along. This week, Ian Cohen and Steven Hyden look back at Deerhunter's career, from 'Cryptograms' and 'Microcastle,' through 'Weird Era Cont' and the band's defining statement 'Halcyon Digest.'

ABOUT UPROXX INDIE MIXTAPE:
Indie Mixtape is the go-to for all things indie music. We serve as a funnel to make sure that only the best music -- new and old -- is delivered directly to the people who care the most.
Indie is more than a music genre. It's a sensibility. The indie fan may be overlooked in our current cultural climate, but they're alive and well -- going to see live music, visiting art galleries, and prioritizing substance over facade. This is for you. - Hudba
Have you ever seen Deerhunter live?
many times! Saw them at the beginning, on the Cryptograms tour at the Echo. And saw them pretty recently opening for Interpol. Did an awesome Patti Smith cover. Good band!
many times in small venues and lucky enough to see Lotus Plaza followed by Atlas Sound at pitchfork. Rain fucked bradfords shit. -almost a direct quote from bradford. he did what he was able to do and was overall a good experience.
yes, multiple times and atlas sound. Best show? probably co-headlining with Spoon on the Halcyon Digest/Transference tour at Variety Playhouse.
Webster hall in 2016. Bradford seemed really drunk and yelled at the crowd a lot lol, good show otherwise
@@MrShwilson23 I was at that show, I remember Bradford yelling into a saxophone. I've seen Deerhunter quite a few times including once when they opened for the Arctic Monkeys in Madison Square Garden in 2014
A few Deerhunter favorites for getting into the band: "Nothing Ever Happened," "Desire Lines," and "He Would Have Laughed"
This band is so great, and 'Halcyon Digest' is still an incredible listen.
Iâm 22, Halcyon Digest is in my top 4 albums of all time easy.
I feel like Sailing gets a lot of unnecessary hate. The atmosphere is fantastic and it's one of the darker tracks on the record. Probably one of my favorites.
My favourite band
Totally underrated
And the band Radiohead were supposed to be IMO
What is there not to like about Sailing. Incredible song. It really takes you away like Desired Lines. Give it another listen
Great band, had the opportunity to see them TWICE in the same festival, Primavera 2013 in the Monomania tour. Forever one of my favorite bands
Nice discussion. Donât sleep on Monomania, which I donât think you mentioned in the video. That and HD are probably their best records, and they havenât gotten back there just yet.
I listen to Deerhunter & Atlas Sound all the time
Other than Radiohead, Deerhunter are my favorite band presently, Halcyon Digest is perfect, 10/10
Adore Helicopter đ
Halcyon Digest is unbelievable but not their defining statement that is absolutely Microcastle.
yo when does the full podcast episode get uploaded? absolutely love bradford his interviews are wild as
Episode is out now! This one was released September 18, 2020. Listen wherever you get your podcasts: lnk.to/indiecast
