    Meet the Fisker Ocean!
It’s American manufacturer Fisker’s first foray into all-electric cars, while also being the manufacturer’s first SUV The question is, can this family-friendly EV compete with the market leaders in its class?
When it comes to the design, it’s fair to say it’s pretty stylish. It has sleek headlights and taillights, with a Fisker logo in the centre of both that lights up! At the front, there’s a wide air intake that stretches across the length of the car and helps give it a bit of an aggressive look. The side profile is also pretty sleek and adds to the car’s overall smart exterior.
Step inside and the cabin is largely covered in soft-touch materials (as long as you don’t reach too far down). In the centre of the dashboard is an absolutely huge infotainment screen which is used to control a lot of functionality - although thankfully it still comes with physical climate control buttons! Annoyingly though it doesn’t come with either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto! Thankfully though, unlike in a Tesla, you also get a digital driver's display.
There are two battery options available - a 73kWh and a 106 kWh. The entry-level car comes with a single motor and a range of 290 miles, while the longest-range edition comes with dual motors and the ability to reach up to 440 miles. The entry-level car also comes with the ability to produce 275hp, while the range-topping car also includes a ‘Boost Mode’, and the ability to put down 564hp.
Prices for the Fisker Ocean start at just £37,000, rising to £61,000 for the range-topping model. But is it better than a Tesla Model Y? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

The number of boosts is there to save your engine. An electric motor has a limited power you can apply, before the magnets jn there will demagnetise. You can surpass this limit for a real short time, without destroying them right away, but it will harm them on the long terms.

I can see how some of the car's features being annoying may have gotten to him, but I feel like he was _also_ just having a bad day, and unfortunately chose to take it out on this car, which is pretty unprofessional, imo. It's so rare to get a whole new company making cars that I really hate it when their first vehicle isn't even given a fighting chance, and when stuff like this happens where, through no fault of their own, they are more harshly criticized than they deserve. The software stuff does seem annoying, but with this being their very first car, and OTA updates obviously in the works, it just feels wrong to judge it so harshly for thing that may not even be an issue even just a couple months later.

I saw Marques complaining about the car having a limit for launch control but I thought that you would know that most cars have a limit.. for example the VAG group has a limit on the DSG of 200 for the DQ and 400 for the DL and a 500 AMAX launches for the ones with the ZF 8 speed, the difference is that Fisker put this number in the infotainment while you can only see this in other by using a diagnostic tool.BMW cuts timing between shifts after 50 launches and depending on what 8hp version you have you lose the function after 100 or 200 launches.911 pdk has 500 limit, the Huracan has a 250 limit.. In two years of ownership I have only done 43 launch control with my Audi .. so i guess the number is not a problem its the fact that there is a limit that is annoying. Maybe everybody does this its just that Fisker had the stupid ideea to display this number.

Far too much stuff is being added to “the screen” in cars. It’s REALLY annoying! They’re all a pain to navigate, especially if you’re driving. You can’t feel what you’re pressing, so you HAVE to look away from the road. We had a Focus courtesy car with the climate control on the screen, it was really awkward to get the right temp. In our own focus the climate control is done with physical dials, I don’t need to look at them at all to know if I’m turning it up or down, I can just feel it. Then as soon as I’ve done that I can move the blowers, adjust my steering wheel, adjust the seat etc, all without having to navigate to different screens! Hate screens in cars!!

The lane assist is even in my 10 year old Mazda 6 a source for always binging if you put it on. And also in the Ocean you can switch it off, even when you like to drive on country roads and change the lane. The other source for binging is the 'FI-Pilot' / speed checker. This features is in europe for all new cars a must feature by regulation. But also here you can switch it to only optical. Predictably the Tesla (model S 90d) was the best but even that wasn't all it was made out to be, cost a lot back then and was built like a 1980's Fiat product. Teslas network is much better than the others but its usually still a trip away from where you're going to get to one and still takes 30-60 minutes each time for a charge that will take you another ~100-160 miles.
I'm yet to find an ice which requires a detour every hour and a half to then sit still for 45 minutes and the Tesla was miles better than the rest.
If you have never spent hours charging on a trip either you never go very far or you have never lived with an ev as your only car.
Thats ignoring the constant hassle trying to find a charger that works and isn't blocked by an ice along with having to plan trips which would otherwise not even require a fuel stop.
If you stay in range they're great because you have a full battery each morning - saving the three minutes a fortnight or so it takes to fuel an ice.

Lets be honest Fisker hasn't got the greatest record at being able to run a company in the first place so releasing something half baked really isn't going to help that look.
Its also a lot less hassle to sort out a bit of code than to pass all the safety tests so its a bit of a thin excuse.
Plenty of other stuff is half baked too. For instance suspension set up is a well known art these days but they seem to not have bothered asking anyone about it.
Plenty of things on this just scream built as quickly and cheaply as possible and considering their track record its someone more brave than me who's going to throw their money at it.
Speaking of which even the price rings alarm bells. Thats the kind of price a big maker using lots of common parts with another vehicle could possibly do. When its a new company and a ground up car thats just not enough to cover proper development.
I wish them all the best - I really liked the Karma and almost got one until I saw one in person and thought it had been in a large accident then not repaired properly. Design is great, you can see someone who knows it did it. Now my annoying things:
    - Breaks felt so different than what I am used too (too light then, can't feel how much you need to press)
    - Constant warnings. Now seller excuse was that their software is not yet finished (I tested in in October last year)
    - A bit slow navigation. After checking about it a bit, I found it was made for Fisker by TomTom, and usually as many OEMs, they go with as cheap hardware as possible.
    - Acceleration limited (I tested only once as I passed that "Oh wow, looks how fast this EV is"
    - It does feel like version V1 or maybe even v0.8.
But, it does have a great price, made in factory that actually has experience building cards (your Mercedes G wagon comes from there too, BMW X3 used to come from there too, made in Austria). Feels OK when driving if you are not hooligan like Matt is :-) Very comfortable ride. Design is great, I wish them to solve all small issues. Once they do, this could be a car to buy.

Tesla has recalled at least once all of vehicles they have already sold. Some of the reasons are below: steering problems, defective rearview cameras, mounting bracket manufacturing flaws, Autopilot malfunctions, failure of low brake fluid warning lights, weak third and second-row seats, steering wheels that fall off, faulty suspension parts, and doors that unlock during a crash.

That steering wheel is horrific and would literally be a deal breaker for me… I had a VW that had one shaped pretty much like that and, while it looks great in the laboratory, the shape means that when you relax your hand position on long drives, you tend to rest the pad of the base of your thumb on the oval “point” of the rim and it cuts off circulation after a while. It’s designed for the shape between your index and thumb but, apart from shop window dummies, nobody holds their hand like that.
