Luffy literally punched Arlong’s wall down, asked for a face to the name Arlong, got it, punched him on the spot. This is why I love Luffy

My man walked up to Arlong Park, asked which one he's supposed to punch, then punched him
Luffy's expressions are so much fun to study. I'm so glad you point out those little details I miss.
Something that has always stuck me with after reading this chapter is how Luffy starts the confrontation by asking "Which one of you is Aarlong?" It really emphasizes the fact that Luffy has no idea who this guy is or what his deal with the village is.
Nami asked him to kick this guys gills in, Luffy is going to do just that. Saving the village is an added bonus but one Luffy doesn't need.
It is hilarious that Luffy agreed to help Nami and marched off to do so without ever stopping to ask who, exactly, he's supposed to punch.
The german dub adds a bit of hilarity to it. There Luffy asks: "Who of you fishmouths is Arlong?" The animosity is there from the start.
@@timothymclean And Arlong asking afterwards: "What was that for?" and Luffy simply answers: "You made my navigator cry." I like how Luffy treats Arlong basically like nothing more than a playground bully.
I don't know who you are. I don't know why im here. All I know is that I must punch Arlong.
Luffy is that friend who becomes genuinely terrifying when he's mad because he goes from sweetheart to murder
The setup to the punch was great. Arlong's trying to do the villainous prefight banter but Luffy ain't here for that. He just asks for a name, walks up, and decks him
I've said it before and I'll say it again, one of my favourite parts of this punch is that Luffy didn't even know who Arlong was or what he did.
He sought out and clocked "Arlong" because that's the name Nami was screaming.
Arlong: "What was that for?"
Luffy: "You made my navigator cry."
The fact that Luffy treats Arlong (and many tyrants) like nothing more than playground bullies says a lot.
I don’t know, Kuma’s giving Luffy a run for his money with his recent punch
Oh I know the punch you’re talking about. And I’ll say this punch, the Sabaody punch and the Kuma punch are all great punch’s in their own right.
I’m eagerly awaiting for Kumas punch to be animated.
@@wildstorm3486Don't forget the Bellamy punch; definitely top 3.... Now that I think of it, I would probably go top 5:
Saturn punch
Charlos punch (interchangeable)
Bellamy punch
Arlong punch
Gear 3 Final Lucci punch
@@yuvrajganguly oh silly of me to forget those punches. But I totally agree with you.
Idk bro that Red Roc punch made me moan a lot
@@yuvrajganguly it doesn't have as much of an impact panel, but the final punch that brings Doflamingo to the ground is really satisfying too
No truer words have been spoken since “that’s on sabaody”
To me the most satisfying punch in the series is the one Luffy gives to Bellamy. How he defeats and shuts him up with just one blow after all the bad-mouthing Bellamy did to Luffy is priceless.
Kid really DID know how to throw a punch, what else can be said?
The best part in my opinion for the punch of Arlong, Bellamy and the celestial dragon guy( can't remember his name) is he doesn't even use his gum gum power, it is just a straight up normal punch
When ADHD gets focused you're in for a time, a hella of a bad time
It's all fun and games until Luffy locks in
The moment Luffy starts giving a fuck about the situation, you better hope you didn't steal food or made anyone cry because if you did, he's coming for your ass.
Luffy's eyes are focused on along the same way a cat's eyes lock on to their prey. Stunning.
Luffy is here on a mission, to help his friend. His crew can deal with the fluff, but he has his target.
I think one of my favourite things about comics/manga/other primarily drawn storytelling media drawn primarily by a single person, especially the Really Long Ones, is seeing an art style evolve and refine
My fav arlong panel will always be the absolute terror of taking off zoros bandages & questioning how he's alive as if he isn't human or something
I never realized how similar this panel is with the one on Sabaody
I think Luffy was taking on all of the pain and held back fury of Nami and her villagers and he wanted to convert it into pure action. No screaming, no moralizing, no visible rage. Luffy not having any thought bubbles and little dialogue always makes it fun to imagine what he's thinking about.
I mean, this is Luffy. Head is empty, the name arlong rattling around like beans in a tin can
Luffy rarely has thought bubbles because most of the time it’s just elevator music in there. When he’s angry, it switches to the Doom OST
I’d personally say the punch on Egghead has dethroned the Sabaody one as the most satisfying in the series.
Never noticed that it had the same composition ! Make it a bit of a shame that the "recent" one wasn't a double spread. Day 50
Damn, I don't know, the one in Mock Town could give Sabaody's a run for its money
I think that was the first time I was “scared” by Luffy. He just goes from his usually looney tunes with fisticuffs to focused-ADHD with murderous intent
I haven't seen it in the manga so it might not hit as hard but the Don Krieg punch is my personal favourite. It is just so raw.
With how Don Krieg just confidenly shields himself with a spiked iron cloak and without having any sort of protection luffy just nails him as hard as he can through it, not giving a shit about his hand getting fucked up by the spikes.
It's just so damn good.
“It’s not the most satisfying punch in the series, that is on Sabaody”
Well it was…
When Luffy gets quiet, you pray for a swift end.
Bro was locked IN
“The most satisfying punch is on Sabaody”
*Kuma has entered the chat.
I love the comparison to Sabaody's punch all the more knowing Arlong would HATE it.
"Who's this punk?" Vs "Where's the punk who made my friend cry?"
We have a rival to sabaody now, not sure if is better but is a lot of cathartic
another great panel analysis, love it all, thank you for this work
Luffy becoming suddenly focused is genuinely unnerving. He tends to meander and play a lot, seeming unfocused, but he moves towards his goals like a high precision heat seeking missile with similar destructive capacity. Becoming the target of his ire must feel like suddenly being on the wrong end of a revolution.
I mean... considering the amount of corrupt governments/rulers that Luffy has overthrown (and his dad and brother being the leader and number 2 of the revolutionary army, which is kinda irrelevant to my point but its still pretty funny), Luffy is almost a one-man revolution
@lonely__noodles I get your point, but I think it's more accurate to say that he's the front line of a roughly 8-person revolution. He couldn't survive long enough to overthrow his next government without his crew.
@robintheviking8990 very true, my mistake
my favorite punch is in the recent chapters it's so good
Luffy is very much like an apex predator sometimes. Once he has his sights on his prey he will fight through an army, prison, country to get to you and knock you out.
Luffy with the focuse look reminds me of when you've pissed off that one kid who is nerodivergent and has like maybe 2 friends and you hurt one of them. Like that is the look of " oh look here comes the consequence of your fucking actions." I know that look because when my best friend found out people were bullying me for my dyslexia and he well ended up in detention and with a broken hand but I fucking love him for doing that.
Actually i think the punch represents how big of a tyrant he has punched arlong was basically a small fish in a HUGE sea
I think in the lead up to that punch my favorite panel comes just a moment earlier; when two fishmen try to accost Luffy and block his path from Arlong, Luffy just grabs their heads and smashes them together. It's done with such force of motion it looks like he cracked their skulls, it really sold just how this was a "shit just got real" kind of moment. Sad that the anime chose to play it up more for comedy with weak motion and sound effects.
These shorts are superb
Idk if you’re reading egghead but a recent punch might take sabaody’s crown
Hard disagree. Kuma's backstory is moving and the punch looks awesome, but St Charlos is a such a hateable character, in a way St Saturn can't be, that Luffy's punch in Sabaody felt muuuuuch more cathartic.
Not to mention the weight of punching a Celestial Dragon gets diminished with each reiteration of the concept
@@dantenarede Fair enough, but one piece is partially a story about taking down the established regime in the pursuit of freedom. Charlos is someone who abuses their power over others, but he isn't responsible for molding the corrupt system itself. That's Saturn. The only person with status directly above him is Imu. The system that Saturn built is what put Kuma, Ginny, Bonney, and the other revolutionaries through hell. And we're forced to read though painful moment after painful moment. When Kuma finally does get to punch him it's like he's exacting payback on the whole system that put him through hell. It's cathartic watching him get payback and protect his daughter after everything we witnessed him go through.
However, Charlos is such a little bitch and recency bias might be at play here.
Honestly I feel bad for the Sea Cow
Same
If Monkey D. Luffy - the man who is notoriously bad at focusing for more than a handful of seconds on anything at all - has dialed in enough to focus solely on you, you have royally fucked up.
I'd say the most satisfying one was on Egghead
"It is not the most satisfying punch in the series, of course, that is on Sabaody"
Me: a complete newcomer to One Piece: _What does he mean_
Me after reaching Sabaody: _Oh that's what he meant_
The most satisfying punch is on Egghead
Most satisfying punch in Sabaody huh? 😏
Bellamy has entered the chat. 😄
Or perhaps on egghead... ;)
sabaody punch ot recent surpassed
I think its important to remember that the punch Skyne is referring to as the best most cathartic hit in the entire series to date , Luffy throws in defense and indignation over the treatment of a current enemy Hachi, who is both one of Arlong's top crew members and as we see in fishman Island also one of his oldest and best friends.
Seeing the parallels from here to there shows just how much of a hypocrite Arlong is being in this arc acting no better than the celestial dragons, thus Luffy hits Arlong and Charlos in the same manner for the same reasons!!!!
Cathartic as the punch is, I've noticed that recently you haven't been touching any souls content. Are you done with the series?
If not, I've a topic you could talk about - the influence of the Beserk manga on the series!
I've seen you review many of the series monsters, but you never mention the connection - don't you know that many of the, more bland, souls monsters and set pieces are direct references to Beserk?
Looking forward to luffy giving both blackbeard and imu this punch
Can you do the best panels for Naruto as well? If you’ve read it of course
Greetings praise algorithm gods
Engagement for the action shots after an emotional moment! And, yeah. THAT punch is the pest in the series. Period
I'd like to point out a moment that's reminiscent of both the Arlong and Charlos punches in Chapter1104
*Spoilers ahead*
When Kuma goes to punch Saint Saturn he's clearly filled with all the anger and rage he can muster but it gives the impression that it's not anger at what Saturn did to Kuma himself, but what they put Bonny, his daughter, through. I think it goes in line with the theme that Luffy is the true embodiment of the Sun God that has worshiped all his life. It leads to Kuma doing certain things in a very Luffy way, whether he knows it or not, and yet the punch is still different from either of Luffy's big punches. Instead of Saturn flying towards the viewer he gets knocked to the side of the panel, kind of showing that even though they both did what they did for the same kind of reasons Kuma still can't do things quiet like Luffy can because even if he follows the same/similar ideas he's still his own person.
Where's chapter 81?
wheres chapter 81?
Yoooooo guy will you make shorts on g8 i know its anime only but its peak filler
I'll disagree, we have the new best punch in the series at Egghead.
Meh, Cool Jimmy Neutron's punch on Arlong was better.
No chapter 81?
