WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS!!!
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT to launch your boat using these techniques. This is NOT an instructional video on how to launch a boat. This is simply a video documenting our fishing trip, and how I chose to launch my boat on that particular day. This type of boat launching is inherently dangerous to people and property. As always, consult an expert before attempting a difficult launch, and LAUNCH AT YOUR OWN RISK!
THANK YOU ALL for checking out this video and I so appreciate all the positive comments and new subscribers to my channel! Fishing is a major passion of mine and I'm excited to bring some of my adventures to you. Enjoy and be safe!!
Video description:
A crowded boat launch forced us to head upstream to a nasty launch where very few boats are able to go. Its a launch few people attempt, but the reward was having the upper stretch of a beautiful river all to ourselves. Down river, a downed tree tried to spoil our plans but we were able to overcome that obstacle as well. This year the steelhead returns have been brutal, but we were able to find a chromer in the midst of a nasty downpour. Hope you enjoy the adventure as much as we did!

Just subbed. Anyone that launches from 150ft cliff is damn fine in my book. I don't even need to see anymore vids although I definitely will. And I wanna see how the hell they get the boat back up😂😂
U & Me BOTH there Brian !!!
New Sub here in N W Montana !!
Haha!! That is awesome Brian! I just pinned your comment! Thanks so much for the SUB! You guys are helping me get to 1,000 subscribers and I really appreciate it!
EnJoey! THANK YOU so much for the SUB!! NW Montana...killer place to be!! (Cool channel name by the way!) Tight lines and see you in the next one!
Agreed, just subbed from Portland OR! There's one place on that river I had to literally rappel to get to but this spot gave me some scary slides too... can't imagine dropping a drift boat down there. The river color looks absolutely sexy too!!
LMAO at all the guys asking about bringing the boat back up the hill, shuttle servie dawgggg
Craigslist ad in a few years, “like new boat, never abused” 😂😂😂
Lol
Yep! Watch CZcams before you Buy!
@@patricialewis4017 dale lewis would love to be with you guys
🤣😂
When I buy something I never care about the next owner or resale value .enjoy what you have with the time you have .
good thing you had that extra bow pad on there to protect it while its on the trailer, ya know before slamming it down a rocky cliff hahaha
Dude, that is hilarious you caught that. John was giving me crap about that very same thing the day we launched. Good call. LOL! Tight lines my friend and thanks for checking it out!
@@flyfishhunter hahaha i give you major credit to have the balls to launch like that, after the boat got to the water im thinking ok how do you even get down there to the boat now. tight lines great video
@@H20chromer Haha! Yes, the walk down is not easy either. A few places you need to grab a plant or rock to hold on! Good to chat with you! See you in the next one I hope!
Lol....the whole time I'm thinking the same thing lol.. like wow he had that pad to protect it but he sliding it down a nasty hill lol
Talk about soaking wet! Wow that looks like a rush!
"PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT" *proceeds to carefully document everything in detail and explain exactly which techniques to use to make this all possible* VERY COOL!
I'm going to file this under "Just because you can doesn't mean you should."
Lol right!!! Something tells me he works or worked in the coast guard or military.
This guy is a dip shit to many people at the boat ramp, I wonder why there not a lot of people there with the good old 3 hours of putting rope all over it and sending it in the woods
@@kennykardashian4532 ya he clearly doesn't know how to use a normal climbing system or belay device
"Because you can" means "you must". It's a direct translation.
Just because he shouldn’t, doesn’t mean he won’t!!!! Step 1….get boat wet! He definitely accomplished that!
Pretty sure this just made me rethink literally every time I’ve ever driven past a pond/lake and thought to myself, “Welp, cant launch a boat in there….dang” 😂. Props to you my good sir!!
But now do you get back up?
My father has told me all about how they started launching off that exact spot 30 years ago. Sent him this video he loved it great work guys!
“If we launch from here we have the river to ourselves!” LOVE IT!!
Except for the people downstream who motored up to where they were.
@@ficheye00 its drift fishing in crazy rivers
Just jump in the boat and take the plunge.
@@ficheye00Motors are not allowed on that river.
@@annettegerard613right, and your not allowed to poach or murder either🤦
I like the protective pad falling off the nose of the drift boat. Then skidding it down that gravel rocky launch. Hilarious you rock!
Hey I was expecting an insane 150 foot "Launch." That's when you sit in the boat when it's at the top of the cliff and then give it a push and down you go.
need snow for that... 😝🎣
LMAO 🤣🤣🤣
Carnival ride
Ya what happened to that?
It never fails to amaze me at the lengths a man will go to, to go fishing in the hardest, crappiest weather and conditions possible.
Thank you for taking us in your adventure.... you guys are awesome!!!
Admire the effort for seclusion after seeing all those boat trailors at the end, putting that fish back made my day, great video!!
Came for the launch, stayed for the fishing.
FFTO, that really means a lot! Thanks for watching the whole video vs just seeing the launch! I've fished the Ozarks a bit...White River and Little Red. Beautiful country you have up there. Hope to see you in the next one. Tight lines my friend!
Same !!
@@Shift1dwn5up I really appreciate that!! See you in the next one I hope!
Well done sir!!!!! Love the thought and effort put into a great unique spot to launch. I have done that with sit on top kayaks before including hauling them back up. Usually pays off as we get access to water no one else does.
Absolutely Chaz! Opens up a lot of possibilities. Thanks so much for checking it out! Tight lines my friend!
I thought my buddies were fishing fanatics and used to think that I was, but you take the cake.
I am amazed by everything you guys did, your rope management methods, there was so much to learn in one short video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a man's sport. Wore me out watching
Riveting from start to finish! I can’t stay with most of these fishing channels...they are boring, to be honest. Great editing, just enough dialogue in your explanations and plenty of incredible fishing and boating skills. I’m going to watch it again right now...just because. Thank you for bringing us along on the journey!
Thank you Lucy! That means a lot. Hope you can watch some of my other videos too!
Semi-retired Fly Fishing Instructor from LL Bean. You just passed my class! Just subbed. Tight lines!
Awesome! Thank you!
At first I thought you where just nuts, but then I saw that you had a method to your madness. I said to myself, he’s done this before. All’s good 😌. Awesome job man
That’s dedication to the sport right there mate, good job getting it down there!
Thank you guys for sharing this challenging, but well worth your time fishing trip !
My parents would always say " where there's a will, there's a way "!
Yes , I will be watching more of your clips.
TJ
Thanks Thomas!!
Damn, nice autonomous vehicle drove itself back to the boat launch.
They have a service where somebody drives the truck to the takeout.
I was wondering how he got his truck there too
No joke, I can't wait for an autonomous truck so shuttling is easy
And who untied the launch line from the bow?
Truly EPIC from start to finish!!! Colour me impressed! Beautifully filmed and edited content as well. Liked & Subbed. Cheers from
Ottawa 🇨🇦😎
Outstanding effort and result, was great to watch and experience with you, thank you!
The things we do for Rainbow lightning!!! Right on guys thats living
Honestly surprised the trailer didn't slide and take you out with it! Glad it worked out! Thanks for the content!
Me too!
@@Koji-888 or at least not stood between it and das boot.
That crossed your mind too? I had visions of things going sideways, literally. :)
Your knot tying and rope wrapping skills are meh, but damn bro, you're a badass. Tight lines. 🎣
Maybe the secret is always keeping the boat moving, even slowly would keep load off.
Wow what a launch. Definitely have to know your stuff for that!! Very good tips as well!! Heck of a fish to top off the miserable conditions. Thanks for bringing us along!!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it!
Had a 17 ft handmade wooden driftboat up in Alaska for 15 years and loved it! But never ever did anything this crazy lol. Now living Outside (lower 48) and really miss my old boat. Awesome video here guys thx for the memories.;8)
Great video. That took almost as much perseverance, grit and know-how as it takes to fish with my eight year old, whom I’ve nicknamed “The Entangler.”
I wanted to see them pull the boat out in the same spot lol
You realize how implausible that is
@@joeysalas7923 I mean with the mechanical advantage of pulleys and a long piece of static rope it really wouldn’t be all that bad
@@positive_will396 correct you are sir. What I was thinking was after a three+ mile float rowing back up stream to take out in the same spot seems a little asinine
Exactly
Kkwkssjyww
Well that's one way to get away from pressure, well done!! Got into some Steelhead up in Ontario a few years back, it was a blast!
that river looks awfully familiar :) nice work gentlemen!
Браво, настоящие рыбаки!!! Готовы преодолеть любые трудности, ради достижения цели!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 СПАСИБО ЗА ВИДЕО!!!!!
That was a sweet tutorial on how to launch a drift boat off of a cliff! I have tossed my boat countless times down that very same launch and also claim the most crashes into the tree that sits just to the right of the slide, notice why theres a patch of moss missing about rear anchor height. I double wrap my rope around the trailer say a hail mary and shove it off the cliff with two of us gloved up on the rope. Your system looks way smarter, what brand is that belay brake?
Nice! It's definitely not a tutorial but that's how I do it. I lost a boat on another launch about 10 years ago double wrapping. That's how I came up with this solution. Be careful my friend and consult an expert first! It's a Black Diamond ATC device made for rock climbing....not for boat launching lol! Hope to see you in the next one!
I just love this launch. I’m heading to Portland soon to pick up my first Clackacraft. Can’t wait for the dentures to come.
This was amazing man. What a beautiful river. I'm a complete novice to flyfishing and boats of the sort. I saw you retrieving the rope from the center once you were trying to maneuver after the fish bit. I assume that works as a sort of anchor, I was just curious about how that actually functions. Great video, I clicked subscribe, like the guy at the top said anyone with the balls and know-how to launch a boat down a 150ft hill deserves that for sure!
Great job! Now pull it back up with a five to 1 pulley system. That looked like some of the stuff I've pulled off. I'm subbed.
Awesome Jeff! Thanks for the sub! Thankfully we hired a shuttle service to take the truck down river to the take out! See you in the next one! Tight lines my friend!
As a rock climbing guide and someone trained in haul systems and high angle rescue, I approve... mostly 😂😅. I would’ve only done it a little different, but for a boat, smooth! 👍🏻
Thank you Brandon!
This is the life. Nice fish! You made the sacrifice to go through all of that work. Well done.
This is one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. Great job.
You are a true sportsman.
Thank you Sir! I really appreciate the positive support! Tight lines and I hope to see you in the next one!
Man, this channel deserves way more subscribers, such a great stuff, greetings from Chile. (i'm sorry for my poor english)
Sleiv! Thank you so much! Hopefully I will get there one day! Your English is perfect! Share it if you can and I'll see you in the next one. Tight lines my friend!
Thanks for showing the world how to do that from that spot. Can't wait to meet up with you down there with all my buddies.
We're gonna be on the edge of the drop-offs, the eddy's, we're gonna be all over those hot spots and I dare you to keep us out!
I do all kinds of risky stuff as a subpar surfcaster. You guys have my respect for making fly-fishing into an extreme sport 😁😁 fish on
haha! Thanks!

Who are these guys
@@JJM2222 People!!! Just like us, just a bit more crazy in every aspect hahaha
Love that movie!!!!! ;-)
It reminds me of fishing with my Dad but he would have just gone ahead and backed it down there on the trailer while arguing with my mom on the cell phone, drinking a cup of coffee and smoking a cigarette all at the same time .
haha! Family memories!
The truest test of any relationship!
OMG what a beautiful river system! Lovely fish too? It's pure heaven guys!
WOW!! Now this guy knows how to have some fun! Love This!!
Dude just belayed a boat down the mountain huh 👀
I expect to see this boat on Craigslist "drift boat, lightly used"
Got to love when your buddy says " dropping off a cliff" at 19:10 as his voice goes to little girl.
The heart of the Trek the better the reward I've always learned that backpacking and fishing. I'd be totally on board with this extra work to have a part of the river to yourself
I think I know that spot and I have a hard time walking down that hill-can’t imagine dropping a boat there
Haha! I have a hard time walking down it once the boat is down! Tight lines my friend!
Should someone tell him about the back bouncing hole for springers down around the corner from where they loaded up?
Where is this located? Its gorgeous and I want to go.
Wife: Baby you going fishing today? Me: hell no I ain't doing all that work for a fish!
Love that you challenge yourself, hope to see some more of your adventures.
Thanks JD!!
Pristine waters and great casting techniques! Love the cross-over cast!

you guys are the real deal . i love it true adventure are risky and dealt with ingenuity.
What does the bottom of your boat look like 😭
No worse that sliding across rocks and stuff while in the water
Aw, I wanted to see you haul it up the hill to the trailer.
shuttle service
Yeah no hauling for me. We go down river by use of a shuttle service. They bring the truck down to the take out.
You didn’t think he rowed that boat back up the river did you??
@@jordonpratt2604 now that would be impressive 😂😂😂
Really? Ummm pulling it up that hill would be CAKE compared to rowing the boat back up river to the launch site! Duh 🙄 🤦♂️😂
Super Cool! First the boat launch, then the steelhead! Amazing !
Holy cannoli... Reminds me of a launch into the Teton river that a buddy of mine years ago talked me into helping him launch. We're still friends but I don't help him launch his boat anymore😂
Their is no way you gunna drop your bout down that lol I have the gear for it hahahahah
Haha! Yeah, he was not too happy about it at first! LOL!
I wanted to see you pull that boat back up your launch sight 😂 Great video.
Seen it done by chain saw winch and a 8724 warn
I thought I recognized it - the Vanderzanden launch on the Wilson River. My grandmother was a Vanderzanden. Awesome video
Theirs a perfectly good landing point 2 miles up the road lol
Subscribing now. You had me at the Boland knot.
Haha Keith! That is hilarious!!! I love it! Man don't feel bad...... I'm a sucker for knots too. 😂 (bowline knot)
Certainly a day of good fun, I can see me doing such a launch what ever it takes for a nice fish.
Boat launch was the best part for me. Great teaching segment. 😉👌
Theres always a bigger fish. Thats how we all got here.
I quit scouts when it came to knot tying. Obviously this guy stuck with it.
Thank you for the great quality camera and fishing that captured this most marvelous landscape so well. It truly felt as if I was there. Great stuff you have one more sub.
Elden thank you so much! That means a lot!
We lived near a lake as a kid and my dad refused to pay to launch. We had many adventures trying new routes to get the old boat in. A few dings and scratches was well worth every day spent on the water with pops ♥️
I’m proud to say I’m here before he gets 10000 subscribers
Haha! Thanks so much. That is quite the complement!
Let's all take a minute to appreciate the Rigging
Word!
Would never do that in my boat but looks like you made it down safe and had fun so more power to you
Incredible - just amazing display of self-sufficiency. BRAVO!! Fish ON! Where was this? Please...)))))))
That's like 50 feet down a grass hill lol. Clickbait.
Rope was only 25' extra had enough to go through his pulley maze and still back down the whole cliff
And the trail it went down looks like it's made for that 🤣
DO NOT ATTEMPT 😂🙄🙄
If that lol
So this launch is 3 boat lengths??? FYI it's a 16' drift boat. Just sayin! Thanks for checking it out!

This has to be one of the most badass videos I’ve ever seen! You earned my sub!
Thanks Mikael! Really appreciate the support!
That was INSANE!!! AND you caught a beautiful Steelhead. Awesome video - WOW!
Thanks so much!
Nice video. I don't know if I would try lowering my boat like that but, hey, whatever works! I caught my first ever steelie on an Oregon coastal stream. Weather looks about right! :)
Never saw a bowline knot tied like that. Brilliant.
Crazy what you need to do to get a bit of solitude these days in the PNW for winter steelhead. I remember when the lots were just a pullout for 2 cars along a dirt road.
This looks like fun. A little miserable at the same time though in the rain 😂 I've been fishing small Colorado trout streams for 20 years, live near Durango. I need to get up to the pacific northwest
Reminds me of my youth in the Sierras rock climbing down to pools. Nothing good comes easy. Nice casts, btw.
You guys out west are so fortunate to have those big beautiful rivers!
You two deserve a state record lunker with all that work, but I'm sure the fishing in solitude was reward enough 💪🎣
Very impressive - great fishing to boot!
What amazing place!!!!! Congratulations from Brazil, man!!!
Im so glad you put that little rubber piece on the front so you dont scratch the hull. :)
At first I was thinking how the hell are you getting your boat back up that 150' cliff then I finished watching the video and realized what you did - don't see many folks taken this approach but I dig it.
I was waiting for you to hop in and save the walk down 🤣 Idaho Floater
In the Florida keys before there were a lot of ramps. The used trailers that could tilt up so you could launch at dirt shorelines or the beach!
Wow! Grande cajones!
God bless guides!
I have used wood steps going down 50-60 feet down to the river. They installed wood slides between the steps to lower drift rafts.
Now this is roughing it!👍👍👍👍
