Can you mix blue dreams with kuhli loaches?
@@talonabuser1072 yes they should do OK with eachother
Are they OK with Tetra's?
I love when the big cherry shrimp swim right up into the tetras and latch onto a big piece of flake food and drag it to the bottom
I love when I drop some frozen brine shrimp in my community tank, and the ghost shrimp come out to stare at me as if they are unable comprehend the level of disrespect... right before they scoop up their fallen brethren and shamefully disappear into the wisteria.
(I know brine shrimp aren't actually shrimp but I still get a BIG kick out of this)
I love how they swim up to the duck weed and ride around in circles swiping flakes from the tetras
I'm definitely getting some of these soon. perfect timing on this video.
Wonderful video and beautiful shrimp! Thank you for sharing! :)
As always great vid great info! Y'all are truly an inspiration
Perfect timing! I am researching and shopping for shrimp now!
Love the content man. I find it very interesting. Keep up the good work. Thanx
My favorite of all the neocaridinas. Yours are gorgeous!
👍💓👍
As far as tank mates, I always had amano shrimp with neon tetras in a school, as well as emerald eye and harlequin rasboras. Also otocinclus, peacock gudgeon (underrated), bumble bee goby, and panda/Pygmy corydoras. I had a golden wonder killie eat a ghost shrimp, fully grown, which I stupidly never expected. Lol.
I have a few different types of Neocaridina's and absolutely love my blue dream. I keep my shrimp in with Chili Rasbora's and Celestial Pearl Danio's and they all interact well together. I do have a heavily planted tank with all sorts of aquatic botanicals and driftwood for a ton of hiding places for the baby shrimplets.
ive been looking all over for CPD and chili rasboras. i found 1 petstore 2 hours away that had some CPD but wernt selling at the time. ive been dying to get some. i have zebra danios and some glo fish danios but nothing looks as amazing as the CPD!
@@lacrosseguy108 There are two great fish stores here in San Diego County that I go to that have them. You can always ask your local pet store or fish store if they can special order any fish for you. In years past I had asked my local Petco if they can special order 20 cpd's for me and they did. I went and picked them up before they were released into Petco's aquariums. They were really healthy but now a days I mostly just shop at my lfs.
I’m definitely gonna look more into these 💙 🦐
Super quality video! Thank you!! Very timely, I've got some Blues & Yellows waiting to ship when the weather breaks. My 1st Ever Shrimps! Got plenty of green-hair algae that the snails & Otto have dropped the ball on.
That will be fun! Good luck!
Nice shirt 👍
Love these shrimp! I have always wanted them.
Thank you :-)
these are my favorite shrimp. love my colony
Happy Friday Jason and Joanna. Thanks for sharing this video. Those blue shrimp are cool looking. 😎 Sincerely, Marty Borst
Thank you!
Hey! Tha is for the vid. I've started my colony in the past few months from 4 blue dream babies. Now we have at least 35! I'm hyped to learn and learn about breeding.
Awesome!
Love my blue shrimp! Moving them to a tank with light colour substrate soon to help enjoy them even more as they’re currently hard to see on black substrate.
Me too!
Thank you. Been wanting to try some shrimp. 🦐
They are totally worth it!
Love em! 🦐
Very comprehensive care and breeding video, may go go down the shrimp route for a tank in the future, lots fish I would like to try first though 🤓
I think you will enjoy it!
Wow, they are awesome. 👌😍👌
Thank you!
I love this channel
Appreciate you being here!
Perfect 😍
Always like the Blues.
I have Red Cherries, Orange Pumpkins and Black Carbon Rilis.in a dedicated planted 55g w/sand over soil substrate.
Well started with them , now I have every color possible.
Thinking about separating out the Red Rilis and breeding them to trade, also there are some other strange crosses like yellows/orange and red/orange Rili pattern.
Great video and gorgeous shrimp! I agree... this is definitely my favorite color of these shrimp as well. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
In one tank I have hundreds of Neocaridina shrimplets doing very well with lots of rock, wood, plant and moss cover. They are living along side with Otocinclus Catfish, Japanese Blue Endlers, and snails. Every time I turn around I see more tiny little fellas even way down deep in the gravel. If it wasn't for the snails it would be an almost maintenance free tank.
Flip Aquatics is great! They do a wonderful job with shipping. I have also gone up there and picked up my critters. I live about an hour and a half away, and I like to drive. They’re really nice and helpful. I found out about them from you, so thanks!
So good to hear!
Just for the first time from Flip Aquatics. I've heard a lot of good things about them from multiple places. Excited!
I keep mine on fluval stratum with plants and its so cute when they pick up the granules. I wish there was a pause button for the breeding though!
I have kept a tank of Pygmy Corys and shrimp along with some nerites and it’s wonderful, I bred all of them and it’s a wonderful planted tank
I could totally seeing that work!
I love my blue dream setup in a 20 gal tank. One down side would be that a shrimp only tank is far more suscetible to parasites and worms than a regular fish. I got planaria, snail leeches then planaria again and each time I used ''no planaria'' to get rid of them. It would work for a while though.
This is perfect! I have blues and are not flourishing as much as my cherries and oranges.
Hope they start breeding for you!
I keep mine between 67 and 74.... they have dropped to 60 without incident.
I have not had the blue... yet! They love green beans and plantains.
Those where my first intro to shrimp
HILLSTREAM LOACHES. they make great shrimp tankmates as you talked about the lower temperatures. My wild cherries live in with my myersi loaches. Both breeding and happy
Nice information, thanks. I keep mine in a bare bottom tank. Like you say, vacuuming is a problem with the shrimplets.
Enjoyed your helpful video. How do you clean the unwarted debris build up off the white sand in a shrimp tank. Thank You from Eastern Oregon
We use a gravel vac and try to be careful not sucking up shrimp.
I keep them with ember tetras, the adults are fine and I’m still waiting for my cherries to become berried. I’m thinking of kicking out my cherries to live in a patio pond bowl and getting some sky blue shrimps or blue dreams, blue shrimps would look nice with ember tetras
My reds do ok in a tank with tetras and guppies and breed... I am working on getting some in my ram tank, I have 4 alive in there now but I had 3 eaten in what I have added so far... I know the temperature is going to burn them out faster but I think once all the plants grow in I will get soooome breeding which is all I want is a sustainable population for cleaning in that tank
I like the chocolate blacks
They are also great for making spotchka! (Mandalorian reference)
Lol everytime I show someone my blue dream tank, they always ask, "are you going to eat those?" It always makes me laugh. Why is that the first thing that crosses the mind? :)
@@disgustingpulls lol I get the same thing.
Because they breed easily would this be a good food source along with rams horn snails to feed to Amazon puffers?
I have found that thai micro crabs are awsome tankmates.. people say they never come out of water but mine do once in a while. I love the mix of crusteaseans. So if anyone is wondoring best tankmates for RCS or BDS just get thai micro crabs :) psssst sometimes pea puffers can ñive with shrimp but dont only take my opion on this ;)
Dwarf Orange Crayfish seem to get along fine too
I have MTS with mine and I personally prefer Moss to other plants because it offers more surface area and hiding places with Peacock Moss being the best
Great point - Java Moss - duh! I have a 10 gallon filled with the stuff and some Red Cherry Shrimp. :-)
I've had Blue Dreams for a long time. They are so beautiful and interesting to watch! Blue dreams come true! 💦💦💙💙
Thank you for this video! Do you add the extra empty snail shells so the shrimp get calcium?
I generally haven't, but you certainly can.
I’m introducing moss and algae into my tank with a moss ball as well, I’m planning on keeping a betta fish with the shrimp a snail or two and some other passive fish, it’s a 30 gallon tank though and I’m planning on making hiding spots hope all goes well lol
Update! It’s doing great, betta fish hasn’t attacked anything yet and they’re all living in peace.
@@YoungMantv what kind of betta do you have?
@@YoungMantv and what kind of shrimp?
@@laurenginnetti2785 it’s called a half moon Betta and the shrimp I have are cherry shrimp ghost shrimp and blue “random assorted” shrimp, however I have a LOT of plants as well as a few good spot for them to completely hid in if they wanted
@@YoungMantv I have a half moon betta as well along with 2 other Cory’s and 2 nerite snails, I was thinking about getting blue velvet shrimp but I’m sorta hesitant about it. My betta isn’t aggressive towards the other fish in the tank, sometimes my betta approaches them but the other fish either swim off or approach him and my betta will swim away. I know because shrimps are so small they need a lot of hiding spots, but do you have any other advice? And I’m interested to know what other hiding plants or decor you have for the shrimp.
Have a colony of these in a 20L with java moss, cholla wood & sponge filter.
SO cool!
I own 2 cobalt blue dwarf gouramis some tetras (serpaes goldlights and a black skirt) and some platys if get mainly females can I get them? I really love these guys I think they are really pretty.
The gourami would probably eat the shrimp. :-(
Just bought my first 2 shrimp an galaxy rasbora. New challenge accepted.
That will be fun!
I love snails and shrimp! I house them together, alone. No fish in there with them. Just shrimp, bladder snails, and ramshorns.
@Prime Time Aquatics How often do you feed your shrimp? :) I think Im over doing it. I have at least 50 blues in a 36 hex with 2 flame tetra, and a clown pleco. Is that too many?
I have 300-350 in a 40 breeder for the last few years - no issues. 😀 I feed them every day.
A garage full would make great micro food source. Sure beat meal worms.
I received 10 blue dream and 10 bloody mary shrimp at the same time and put them different tanks to get a colony going a few months ago. Just a couple days ago I finally see a couple blue babies. While in my other tank there are so many bloody mary shrimp that are half the size of the adults. I don't know why it took so long to have blue babies.
As long as they are starting to breed they should keep going now!
I have cherry shrimp in a danio and one male betta tank..... All my fish are shrimp friendly.
I just placed two orders from flip aquatics :) 15 blue dream shrimp and 10 Pygmy corydoras for my fluval flex :)
Enjoy! 😀
@@PrimeTimeAquatics forgot to ask can I keep the Cory’s while in QT with my shrimp right I saw the video and they might eat the shrimplets only
Have red cherries with Pseudomugil ivantsoffi. They get along great.
They Look like Blue gems
Great video. I’ve got a question about fertilizer. I’m using Fluval Gro+. It has a minute amount of copper in it. Will that be a problem with shrimp?
Most likely it won't be a problem unless it says specifically not to use with inverts.
A copper penny can kill a 55 gallon marine invert tank. Copper ok ish for fresh water salt fish in a bath but hurts inverts.
I have gold fish but i have rocks for them to hind and i don't have another tank...
I know this video is like 2 years old, but I was wondering if I could but them in a river rock 15 gallon with lots of fake plants and some drift wood pieces?
Sure!
Looking at doing shrimp. My gh reads around 200 kh around 120, per my test strips, i have the ph at 7.2 . will this work and if so which shrimp
You could do neocaridina with those parameters!
I want try to care on shrimp but i find it boring just having them in the tank alone. What are best tank mates you can recommend?
What size is your tank? If it’s between 5-20 gallons, I can’t recommend ember tetras enough! I have a colony of about 12 with sparkling gouramis and never had any babies. As soon is I took the gouramis out and put in ember tetras had babies in days. Also ember tetras are extremely active and never hide.
In my experience betta are very aggressive towards shrimp. They just eat them up. HIGHLY not recommended combination! Especially crown tails, their gills flare and they peck them to death.
I would love it if you managed to have Crystal Red Shrimp. Your water parameters are like mine and i would just love to see what you would do to be able to meet the CRS parameters. Can you please do something like that or is it just impossible?
I'd probably have to drop my pH and water hardness - maybe at some point!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics exactly! i can't wait for that video ^_^
Hi!! I have these blue shrimp i got them for my nano 3g tank, they are juvenile only 5 on the tank with baby snails, maybe couple weeks now they seem to be doing well until now I notice they are turning black!!!! Do you know why ?
I always start with water parameters and make sure they are ok?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you! I have issues with hard water so i did a 20% water change adding RO water, i will try slowing changing to the Ro instead of my dechlorinated tap water, other than turning black they seem to be acting normal eating and all… i ll keep you updated, thanks for sharing these videos!
at 1:53 there's a white tiny thing swimming from center to the left of the screen, I've got these things floating around, what are they?
Detritus worms
Will the SHRIMP eat the small fish though? I've definitely heard of shrimp attacking and killing small fish. I'm just thinking maybe I can use the shrimp tank as a guppy fry tank to grow out and they can eat the detritus worms, since I have an issue with detritus worms in my shrimp tank.
I've never seen shrimp eat healthy fish.
Do you normally quarantine shrimp they way you would quarantine new fish before adding them to you tank?
I usually don't since they don't get ich or carry most of the parasites that fish are susceptible to getting.
Would Hillstream Loaches eat shrimp?
Can C. schultzei Corydoras and Bamboo shrimp be paired with Neocaridina shrimp?
The corys might eat shrimplets, but adults are usually ok.
Can I keep dwarf gourami with cherry shrimp? (I want to control population, and not have too much breeding (I got a 20 gal, that is currently un stocked)
Most likely all our shrimp would go missing. : -)
I wish my shrimp would eat hair algae. I want to try 'starving' them by not actively feeding them in the future sometime, and see if they'll take to eating the out of control hair algae I let grow specifically for them. Neither my neos nor my amanos touch the stuff.
Are neons or cardinal tetras fine with shrimp possibly zebra danios?
They might eat the babies but adult shrimp are usually left alone. Danios are a little too fin-nippy for me though.
Will they thrive in a community tank with angel fish given that I give them enough hiding space like caves and root Aquascape?
Probably not - angelfish are good hunters and will eat any they see.
Hey. Have a quick Doubt. Can we grow plants on the white sand
Sure
Could a honey gourami work with these shrimp? Thinking about getting that today but not sure…
They usually eat the babies.
for having only shrimp and snail in a tank, how do you deal with mosquitos larvae?
thanks
It’s not something I have ever seen in our tanks?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics how can?? In my case I'll have those larvae in just 5 days old culture tank 😅
I'm keeping my carbon rili shrimp with a male betta who doesn't care about the shrimp at all. He swims right next to them at doesn't even attempt to eat them.
Wouldn't recomend it though as every betta is different.
I'm curious. What's the problem with having detritus worms in the tank?
It's more the planaria that can be an issue by killing shrimplettes.
Prime Time Aquatics Ok. Thanks.
Can they live with red shrimp, corydoras, black skirt tetras, and neon tetras?
You can make a video about blue dream shrimp tankmates
The skirt tetras would probably eat them.
I got no sand and I’m getting more shrimp soon blue ones blue dreams and I only have rocks I don’t wanna use cause of the food getting stuck and bad water quality and then the shrimp die so is it okay for no substrate?
No substrate can be a little tough because shrimp like to pick at the substrate in addition to the plants, rocks, and wood usually in the tank. You are right that sand would be better though.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics ok thank you!
Which test kits would you suggest for keeping the water quality of the shrimp tank good for breeding? I am loosing my cherry shrimps and I don't know what is going wrong. Most of the deaths are due a term called the WHITE RING OF DEATH
The API liquid test kits work well. The tetra test strips are fine too.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Which one should I get? There's many test kits from API
What do you think of glass/ ghost shrimp?
I like them - they tend not to do well for us though.
Nobody ever mentioned how bad copper is fir shrimp. Yes, they eat community feeder food but be careful , most fish food has copper in various forms in it.
Should I get red cherries or blue dreams
You really can't go wrong with either. I prefer the blues, but both are great!
Bettas can mix, but they'll actively hunt the young shrimp. If you have plenty of hides, there'll be less casualties.
Hello everyone :) Can i keep different type of neocaridina shrimp? *BUT ALL MALE?
You could, but males tend to be a little less colorful?
hi, what camera u use to record this video?
We have a Sony A7III with Sony lens.
Could you keep neon tetras with shrimp?
They might eat some of the baby shrimp but usually leave the adults alone.
I seriously am thinking a lush planted tank, with ONLY blue shrimp and schooling neon tetras. Because the last thing I need right now is another tank…
I have one pregnant blue shrimp in 2 gallon tank is that OK?
Sure
Do you guys have an axalotl an your fish room ?
We don't, but they are cool!
anyone tried Scarlet badis with their shrimp?
They are predators and would probably try to eat them if they can.
Check out my Blue neocaridina shrimp videos. I keep mine with guppies and bronze corydoras.
What is that substrate and where can I get it. Ty
We're still running pool filter sand in the 40 gallon. You can usually pick it up at any home improvement store.
Did you know I have E.S.P. ? I see another tank in my future!
These make for a nice set up!
I'm wondering if shrimp will eat fish eggs. I haven't been able to find any videos that address that.
Not that I have seen.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks for that! Look forward to next video. 😀
Can you add kuhli loaches to a shrimp tank?
They might eat them
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you for letting me know.
Will Blue dreams cross -breed with red cherry shrimp?
Yes, most neocaridina will cross-breed. The resultant offspring often turn brown.
What is the substrate in this tank please?
We still have some old pool filter sand in this tank. If I were setting it up again I would probably just use Top Fin or Caribsea sand.
