The "Saturday Night Live" alum, who was part of the comedy troupe from 1986 to 1991, died this week after a long illness at her home in New York. She was 57. Charles Osgood reports.
She was so good. Her acting character acting skills made her so funny. She knew how to translate the funny material through expert acting. Phil Hartman had similar skills. That's what made them the two funniest people to ever grace the SNL stage.
I just found out last week that she had passed away. That's what brought me here. I had recently started watching 3rd Rock from the Sun again and she was on so I thought I'd look her up and when it said she was an American actress I was like what?
Jan lived a secluded private life in her final years in Bearsville NY, she got throat cancer in April 2014, passed in Oct. 2014, she was out of public life for a long time when she died
I cannot believe no one has done a book on her yet, I contacted several celebrity biographers on this, no one has showed any interest--hate to see her fade away
Wish I could find the skit on SNL when Jan Hooks played Oprah after Oprah's dramatic weight loss in 1988, in my opinion Jan was a riot in that skit. Jan was also very good (funny) as one of the Sweeney Sisters.
Craig Seamus I guess if you look hard enough you can always find something wrong in a statement. I would have guessed that the most pious and ego maniacal person would pick up that my statement was more tribute than anything else. Pious (meaning) making a hypocritical display of virtue.
+Craig Seamus I can certainly feel the love and selflessness coming from you. A good sign that I struck a serious nerve is you were reduced to name calling. You also represent the dangers in online social media. I would strongly urge you not to contact me again.
This is apparently season 14, episode 6 with host John Lithgow. SNL episodes can often be tracked down through Google or different sources if you search.
It's always interesting to me that there are superb actors and stage performers who have stage fright. I read somewhere that when great actor Robert Redford would first show up on the set of a movie he would dash off to the nearest restroom - - - to throw up. (That must have been early in his career.)
I went to high school.with Jan. She truly was a sweetheart. She will be fondly remembered and terribly missed.
G L Puerner....yeah sure....and I went to college with Dom Delouise ?
@@barryrichman4475 That's great to hear, Barry. You sound old.
zyxwut321.....and you sir, sound like an idiot ?
@@barryrichman4475 Wow, assuming I'm a guy? Tsk, tsk. Didn't Dom teach you better?
you were so lucky, hard to believe she would be 63`--she suffered a lot due to illness in her last yrs.
she was my biggest celebrity crush. Brenda the waitress was the best SNL sketch of all time !
Watching 3rd Rock from the Sun and Vickie has me racking up here. Loved Jan Hooks. Miss her.
Very talented, underrated star who gave me many laughs.. RIP
I have always LOVED this woman. If you want to laugh, all you have to do is watch her, it's inevitable.

Man how did I miss this news? I myself had cancer the same year she passed on, it's rough! I will miss her!

Such a talent.

Yes! I would buy!
@@mikeycbaby I did research on her life, not much is available, it would have to be mostly based on interviews
Such a beautiful, talented, woman.
So funny, talented, and beautiful. What a tremendous loss.
Had such a crush on her for a long time. Especially great as Dixie, Jiminy Glick's wife. Thanks, Jan.
Jan was an SNL legend. RIP
The Sinatra skit ranks up there. What a great concept~Sting was hilarious too.
she died in Bearsville NY at her home, it's outside of Woodstock NY, her brother Tom was with her at the end
Sorely missed.
Damn she was funny. The best female performer on SNL ever!
Very funny woman! Truly truly underrated!
She and Phil are stll the best male/female performers on SNL to date.
IMO, the funniest woman on SNL...and there’s been quite a few funny ladies on that show.

Brilliant comedian and actor.
He didn't mention she was on "3rd Rock From The Sun"!
Gone way too soon.
Superstar!
I loved her.
Sad
This missed her y ears in third rock from the sun, as wife of Jimminy Glick show and movie, as Upa's wife on the Simpsons, etc.
Literally the greatest of all time
Along with Gilda
RIP 😢
The funny working woman with a pretty face.
She was also Jiminy Glick's wife Dixie!!! So funny! Love her! Gone too soon!

Janet she passed away
Jan Hooks was as hot as she was talented. So beautiful and funny.
Janet passed away
And not to mention Jiminny Glick's wife, Dixie.
Did she OD?
57!? Too soon
And to think how Lorne Michaels rejected her the first time around
Jim Carrey was at her second audition for SNL, she got picked, he did not
The Sweeney Sisters!
Jan invented that according to Nora Dunn, it could have become a Broadway show easily
Dixie Glick!
