For those who are curious... For the foundation I used leftover bricks from our house. I simply laid them out according to the inside perimeter of the shed, then placed several more in the inside to create a sturdy foundation.
For the shelving... I screwed 2" boards into the walls vertically using with sheet rock screws to act as studs. Then I simply mounted the shelves as one normally would on a regular wall... Using the boards as the mounting location for the shelf brackets.
For the pegboards... I used more of the 2" boards to create studs on the walls. That also leaves a 2" gap between the shed wall and the pegboard so you can put in the pegs freely.
Just Doin' Life i bought the medium sized shed, 5x5 roughneck rubbermaid. Did that reccomend to be built on a solid surface? I turned over a section of my lawn and leveled the dirt. Wonder if i should lay something solid before building it
Personally, I would create some type of subfloor or foundation. it would help prevent water and little critters from coming in.
I was just about to ask about the foundation lol. Did you do any kind of leveling or anything or was the ground already pretty level?
The ground was already pretty level before I started so it made the process a little easier.
Just Doin' Life Kudos for the video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you considered - Mahorrla Wooden Paradise Method (do a google search)? It is a great one of a kind guide for building better sheds and woodworking without the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.
Just Doin’ Life:
Seeing your video on reviewing the Suncast Shed this morning was both synchronicity and serendipity for me. I, too, was about to place my online order through The Home Depot after I stumbled across your critique. I first, happened to open my CZcams app to check for any replies, which there weren’t, but there you were.
When I came across your presentation, I immediately called my wife over to share your show with her. Her very first utterance was “He’s looks just like you, dear!” She knew I was in the market to get a shed within a few weeks, a 7ft. x 7ft. The shed that I ended up ordering was a Suncast Vista. I’m not expecting its arrival though until sometime next week.
I like how you showed us viewers on how you situated your shed’s location in between the adjacent fence line, nestle backyard, and your complimentary rear home’s siding. My wife and I greatly appreciate you for showing us various intricate details of: fasteners, cross bar riggings, and other shed’s features. I concur with your beloved wife for doing a better presentation. You did do a splendid job in showing off the alluring qualities of a Suncast Shed that you and your wife had lovingly built together, a truly fine addition to your home’s real estate appeal. We were very impressed. Glorious!
Thanks for checking out the video! I tried to be as helpful as I could. I'm typically reviewing small electrics and cars so this was definitely out of my scope. Lol!
Curious how it's holding up?
I gave it away 2 years ago to downsize to another Suncast shed when we got our pool. My neighbor uses it now and it's still in great condition.
Thanks for the review. I'm building this exact one today.
Good review! Thanks for sharing and later explaining what you did about the "foundation". That's the way I was going to "go" too... but I was uncertain. Thanks to your review, I'm now comfortable doing it that way! Sir, you are appreciated!
+Coya Campbell I'm glad it was helpful... Thanks for checking it out!
Hey, thanks for the helpful review. The roof is most likely engineered to sustain some weight from snow load. The cracks you points out can easily be filled with a clear silicone caulk. This will fill the cracks/gaps, and if applied neatly, it will maintain a clean aesthetic. Good luck with your shed!
Nice review!
2 things I wanted to comment on.
1. There are shelves you can buy for these sheds from the manufacturer, they even have an above overhanging shelf.
2. I wouldn't use spray foam to stop up any gaps, that stuff just makes a mess and is horrible if you get any on yourself. just use clear silicone.
THOUGH EXPENSIVE. INSTEAD, MAKE YOUR OWN
Dang man! That was AWESOME! Thank you for doing that! I was going to order the Craftsman shed, but they don't have it any longer. I am SOLD on this one one and I'm REALLY glad I found this cause I wanted to see "for real" what 7x7 looks like IN the shed. I have some lawn tools I would LOVE to get out of my garage! Mower, Weedeater, leave muncher, power washer and a few other things. Looks like it will all fit!
Good stuff! Thank you!
Happy to help!
Appreciate the review, actually going to buy one this weekend
I just purchased a used Suncast 8x10. it was one year old in excellent condition. When I disassembled it there was mold underneath the plastic floor on the wood base. When I reassemble it I am going to omit the center floor panels so that when water does get underneath it can dry.
Outstanding review of the shed
+d307p Thanks for checking it out!
I agree with your girl . No reviews on this besides yours. You did a great job. Good personality.
Thanks bro... But Shhhhhhhhhhh! We can't let her know she was right! 👊
CHARISMATIC ALRIGHT! THANKS FOR THE VID
Good job my friend! Love the peg board ideal! I'm going to use that :)
Awesome idea with bricks and pt plywood. I'm going to use 20" patio stones for base with plywood on top. Looks like it could use some corner bracing, wire corner shelving should do the trick. Maybe foam tape between walls and roof, then clear silicone on all joints. Thanks, great vid:)
Jdl -
Great review. Sealed the deal for me.also lovin’ on the pegboard idea. I plan on hanging our bikes on the walls too. Very happy with the shed and your help.
+michael neustadt I'm really glad it was helpful!
Thank you for sharing your video. We are also getting this shed. Your video helped a lot.
You're very welcome. 😁
Great Video,Took me about 6 hours by myself.Ty for the idea to put some spray foam in the cracks.Well Done.
+Echo Chambers Thanks for checking it out!
2 hours to build!? Wow you guys were moving, I spent that long reading the directions! Lol thanks this helped for my build.
LOLS
great review :) I just order this same exact shed in smaller size 7 by 4. Subscribed :)
I am SOLD!!! You spent some time focused on the roof, which may seem over-engineered...but only for someone who doesn't live in snow country. I wanted to watch this review specifically because I wanted to see inside to check for snow tolerance. Your video was awesome for answering my questions. The steeper pitch, with the extra support underneath, will make this shed topnotch for snow!! Thanks!
Nice video. Good job. Helpful.
Thanks for the review! Awesome!
No problem at all... Thanks for checking it out!
Nice...appreciate the review, want one for my atv.
This type of shed is nice in appearance and easy to find a space in your yard. Yes, there are a lot of bar supports for the roof because as the temperature goes extreme high or low, these supports maintain the shape or prevent sagging. The only problem i encounter with is that the bar support above the door (like the head jamb) is not good enough to prevent that part above the doors to sag. If that happened, the doors will not get through when you close them.
Good review, thanks!
+Ross Hagen Thanks! I hope it was helpful.
I just got mines and built it up pretty much myself from 2pm to 10pm slowed down because it was getting dark. I have slightly different materials. Mines has different handles but same locks. Mines has metal support built slide-ins on the side per pieces of the walls. The design outside is half of mines. I also have 4 light holes on the roof. But overall the structure is the same. But mines has air holes on the roof where light can get in... which means my shed is more prone for critters ehh...
+Johnny Le I ended up spraying some foam insulation in those cracks. It works like a charm!
Nice review. Thanks
Thank you so much for reviewing bc I'm trying to make a decision now.
+sweetbrownsuga504 I'm in Houston... It held up very well during the storms.
Just Doin' Reviews N' Stuff Good to hear!! I've been through Katrina so it sure did cross my mind. Especially since I'm trying to see if I can put it together myself. Lol Glad you made it through Harvey.
+sweetbrownsuga504 This isn't necessary during regular weather, but if a hurricane ever stops by again, here's what I did... I got 4 metal sign post from home Depot and hammered them into the ground, 2 on each side. Then I used cargo straps to basically strap down the shed and tie it to the post. Lol!
Just Doin' Reviews N' Stuff Great idea, Thanks a lot!!
Nice shed and nice review my man.
Thanks! Hope it was helpful!
Good review, thank you.
Happy to help 👊
I just finish mine and I’m happy with it. No gaps probably from the leveled concrete based. Right now I’m trying to figure out on how to anchor this shed down. I attempted to use anchor bolts but I’m thinking about using anchor cables to hold the whole thing down. Did you have to cut the bottom section part of the door to slide the door hinges in? Houston, Tx
Cool video!
Your wife is right. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the well done review! It really helped me in my decision on what kind of shed to purchase.
Can you explain how you attached the peg board and shelving?
Great review!!
Thanks!
Thanks brother exactly what I needed
Happy to help!
Thanks again brother
Man, you got lucky, great video.
Little baby spiders will craw in between those space and grow a family. Nice review btw.👍🏼
Thanks Brother.......
Great review
Thank you!
very nice man!!! I used to put them together when I worked at Sams before.. Def keep some heavy stuff in there. ...them crazy winds In TX rolled my friend's shed across the yard the next day after we putted his together.
+MayitoTek Thanks! Man... You're making me wanna go outside and anchor it down now. Lol!
MayitoTek, I have a small craftsman that I chained to my chain link fencing post. LOL
Great video!!
Thanks! I hope it was helpful!
Thanks for the video I’m just curious how you installed the shelves you do great job.
Well Dude I got my bad shed up and put together, but I had to play your video a couple of times because I thought you said it took you and the Mrs. TWO HOURS to put this bad boy together. And you did say TWO HOURS. WOW....You are officially my hero hands down. Gotta' tell you man it took me 8 hours (by myself) to get this thing up and standing. And I gotta' agree with you 100% about the roof. You could sit an elephant on that roof and it ain't budging. No sagging, swaying, dipping , no nothing. I to feel it was a bit overdone. And again I agree with you 100% on the walls. They could've put some of those screws and supports on the walls instead. But all said and done, it's a pretty cool shed. I also want to hang some shelves and pegboard up but want to ask you what anchors did you use to hang the shelves? Or did you just use screws? And are your shelves still up?
:-)) Again thanks for the solid review , because of you I'm the proud owner of one bad-boy shed.....Tommy
+Tommy Loreto Haha! I'm really glad you like it man. I'm still loving mine. I almost want to buy another one an turn it into a mancave. Lol! In order to install the pegboard, I 1st screw some strips of random wood directly into the walls of the shed for framing. Then I screwed the pegboard into the strips of wood. The strips of wood going up the right side of the shed where the shelf is installed are what I used.
Tommy Loreto- just bought one. Does this shed leak? Have u noticed any leaking anywhere on your she'd when it's raining? Thanks
+HmbV15 I still haven't noticed any water getting in. But I also used a can of foam insulation along the bottom and top seams. Home Depot about $7. I used only one can.
Just Doin' Reviews N' Stuff - I was worry about it after putting it together. Thanks for the fast reply 👍
+HmbV15 No problem
lmao, as a fellow content creator, love that you had to do a review because the video already out there is horrible, way to be, man, way to be. my mother just picked this one up.. well, similar, same brand but 8x7. I'll be putting it together for her on mother's day weekend. thanks for the video.
The wife made me do it bro! 😂🤣
I don’t know why I watched this video. I don’t need a shed or anything. U just held my attention. Nice😎.
Haha! I do that all the time! Thanks for stopping by! 🙌
HE'S GOT A LIKEABLE PERSONALITY FOR SURE!
Thanks for this. Going to pick mine up today. But can you tell me how you attached the peg board and stuff to the walls. I don't wanna mess up the shed just by using random screws. Thanks.
+pistol Peek I got some 1" wood strips and screwed them into the raised parts of the wall. The strips act as studs and move the pegboard away from the walls. Hope that helps! Oh... I just used regular wood screws.
Crawfish Pot! My Man. Thumbs Up.
+skeetajohnson LMAO! You saw that huh? Only a couple more months and it's ON again! 🦐🦀
IM VEGAN AND THAT SOUNDED GOOD
Excellent review buddy. I was looking at the Rubbermaid 7' X 7' shed at Lowes , but seen this one at Home Depot for about $100 less and was wondering how it compared. Seen your review and you sealed the deal for me. Going out and getting this one, based on your findings. I've seen a lot of reviews on CZcams and must say yours is definitely one of the better ones. You covered everything that would be important to a potential buyer and you did it in an easy to listen and understanding way. Thanks for the great review and keep 'em coming..............Tommy
Thanks for checking it out Tommy! I'm glad it was helpful. It's been up for a week and absolutely NO buyer's remorse.
This is great! What did you use for the foundation? Also, did you anchor it as well?
Thanks! For the foundation I laid out old bricks in a square the same size as the base then spaced a few more of them in the inside of the squar to add support for the middle. Then I just laid two pieces of plywood down on top... BAM! I don't have it anchored down to anything but it can easily be screwed or bolted down through the floor of the shed. Hope that helps!
Very, Very Nice ........Now, I am just telling you this because my husband had to do our house....Your house need to be pressured washed, You have a little mildew on the side....We did for a minute til he seen it....Then everything will be matching...Much Love & Respect....You do have a Beautiful set up....Keep it up!
Ha! We actually ended up painting the entire house. We had a ton of rotten wood and the bit of mildew you saw was the tip of the iceberg. It was driving me crazy! 😂
That's wonderful....You are NOT alone......Husband had to restored his, put two doors on it...He said it swings like yours and painted it the same color the house, It was a expensive shed in the beginning......He is very proud of his work.........My Husband said you did good....and he is proud of you and your Review......Keep doing You!
Hello sir what did u use for the slab/base and how did u anchor it down
Very nice. Where about are you located? I'm a touch worried about rain and snow washing out the dirt under the pavers so I might build a wood foundation.
Loved the review. Got a question. Did you have to secure the shed to the foundation or anchor it to the ground in some way?
Jim
I don't typically have it anchored to anything, but when Hurricane Harvey hit I just drove 4 anchor post into the ground... Then used cargo straps to anchor it. The winds here in Houston don't really get high enough to move it.
Hi There - I just installed the same shed. How did you mount your peg boards? What did you use? Thanks!
Awesome review! Is the floor one piece and does it sit high enough off the ground without a sub floor?
The score is actually three big squares that you piece together. I would also advise you to create some type of subfloor with either two-by-fours or bricks.
I'd go with some silicone caulk to seal it up.
SAME SO THAT IT HOLDS UP TO THE ELEMENTS
Great video my man!!! Looks good.
Awsome video man! I did notice the shed has part of the roof slanted towards the house, which means water flows that way when it rains. Has that been a problem at all?
That's the good part. It's all constructed to channel water away so there's never water on the inside.
Nice video. In laws bought one awhile back. Does yours have an overwhelming smell of plastic that doesn't go away?
I don't remember the smell being a big deal, but I'm guessing whatever it is should go away with a little bit of time.
They have had it a little over a year. I can only be in it for a few seconds before it overwhelms me. Starting to think it's something they have stored in there.
Oh man... Yeah, they probably have something in there that's causing it. I can't imagine the materials carrying an order that long out in the elements.
Hey there! Can you do a review on how to hang pegboard or shelving in this kind of shed? Or can you just tell me how you did it please! It looks like you screwed wood into it but that doesnt seem right?
I am looking to get a shed like this to keep my $50,000 server computer inside of. Would this be okay in rainy Vancouver to keep the computer dry?
You should be safe as far as rain, but I still wouldn't trust a $50K server in it...
I am interested in putting peg board on my Suncast shed like you did. I am concerned about drilling into the shed though. How long were the screws that you used?
I really don't remember at this point. But... I drilled 1' x 1' planks to the shed prior to putting up the pegboard. The screw probably went into the shed about a half inch.
I'd really like to know how you installed the shelving!
SAME!
well presented , use insulation tape for holes and cracks.
How is your shed doing? I am considering getting the same one. Nice review btw!
It's still hold up just like the 1st day. I have no regrets at all.
Nice Review bro, I'm sold. head over to ACE to buy one.
Glad I could help out! 🙌
BEFORE YOU DO, GET IT AT HOME DEPOT. RN THEY HAVE THE 7X7 FOR $549 ! NOTE: THE DOOR LATCH WHERE THE PADLOCK ATTACHED LOOKS CHEAP QUALITY ON THE HOME DEPOT UNIT.
Great video man. I just had a tree drop on my shed and I need to get something put up ASAP. I may just pick this up and stand it up. I am planning on getting something like a 12X20 but I will also keep this one for extra storage. How hard would it be to deconstruct this shed once it's built in the event I want to move it? Also, checking Amazon, the same shed is 900 bucks on Amazon - whoa!!!!
I wouldn't say it's hard to put up and take down, but I think after doing that a couple of times will hinder the integrity of the construction and it will start to get weaker over time.
@@NewStuffTV1Thanks. I'm only going to have to move it once.
Ok cool. I was just concerned about the screws going through the plastics over and over again. 👊
@@NewStuffTV1 I may be able to get by with partial disassembly. I am going to put it up in a temp location while I demo my old shed; then keep the base of the shed and put this on on top. Later this summer I plan on building the mother of all sheds a 16X20 :)
DAAAAAMN! I would love to have a storage space that big. Then I could store all of my wife's Christmas crap! 🤣
What did you use to sit your shed on? The base it's sitting on?
+Svt-Mustang lifestyle Sorry to be so late on this... But yes, it's on a foundation of bricks.
thx
I went to look at one of these at a local Home Depot on a rainy day and it was leaking all over the roof. I know they probably care how it goes up, but I want to ask how has it held up against rain storms?
Great question. I don't have any water coming in. I've also used spray foam insulation in some of the larger openings to keep critters out. I'm assuming that's helped with the rain as well.
Is it possible to put a loft? For storing bins, etc. Just to utilize the space up there. Great video btw!👍🏻
That's a really great idea! If you put a loft in it, I dont think you could stand up if you're 5"9 or taller
Just Doin' Life oh ok, probably just a shelf then to place other items. Thanks for the reply!
What type.of screws you use for wood strips?
+CJ Conklin I really can't remember but I'm thinking they were wood screws.
Thanks for the review! i was looking at the same shed. do you still like it?
+Joseph Milazzo I love it! No water gets in and it's built solid. You can't go wrong with this one.
awesome! thanks for the quick replay too! you earned a sub here bud.
+Joseph Milazzo Thank you! 👊
Thank you very much for this review. Been on the fence over purchasing one, and now I'm feeling confident. You covered everything I was curious about. Thanks again!
You're welcome!
I know this is a older video but I was looking at this same shed.and thinking about getting it..how has it held up since you got yours?
STILL loving it!
@@NewStuffTV1 thanks man..that was a good honest review
I want one of this to store my dirt bike and stuff. But wonder how long this will last out here in Las Vegas during 3 months of scorching heat. Hmmmm
Good question... Mine is still holding up really well.
@@NewStuffTV1 DO YOU LIVE IN VEGAS OR AREA WITH SIMILAR TEMPS. VEGAS CAN GET HOTTTT!
I WOULDN'T TRUST IT FOR A DIRT BIKE, UNLESS IT'S OUT OF ORDER.
Did you put any kind of foundation under it
+John Elish Yes, I just put down some bricks that were leftover from the house. Nothing special.
nice video, but i wish you would have video taped putting it together
THAT'S ANOTHER VIDEO ALTOGETHER CLASSIFIED UNDER "HOW TO," AND NOT "REVIEWS" AS HE HAS CLARIFIED.
Did you have any screws left after you finished building it?
I really don't remember, possiblity a couple.
@@NewStuffTV1 I really appreciate you responding. It helps a lot.
No problem at all. Now that I remember... All of the screws for the wall are big and plastic. The screws for the roof frame are regular metal screws. The instructions are VERY clear and 2 people should not have any problems.
hows it holding up after 2 years?
Great! Not one single issue.
How has the shelf held up since buying it?
WellArmed Liberal I’m curious as well how has it held up, does it create mildew on your things?
Nothing has changed. The inside stays dry and since I sealed the gaps the bugs stay out. The materials are really tough and have held up great in the elements.
Just Doin' Life | Thank you for the replies! What did you seal it with?
No problem at all. I used a spray foam that's I got from home depot. Be careful with it, you don't need a lot because it expands so well. Good stuff.
How thick are the walls?
I'd say at least 1 to 2"
hows it holding up?
Like a champ!
If you wanna "Keep-It-Real" , post a review of you "Building-it" !!
That would be a "how to video", not a review. On the same note, the thought of doing this review wasn't until after the project was complete anyhow.
@@NewStuffTV1 EXCELLENT RESPONSE! SASSY AND SMART, I SEE
JUST ENJOY THE REVIEW, HOW ABOUT YOU BUILD IT AND MAKE A VIDEO TUTORIAL?
I just paid more than that for a 6x5 and not half as detailed n pretty....cos i live in the UK.
Two to three hours with two dedicated people with electric screwdrivers--yes it's doable!!! But Get help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alone it took me over 3 hours to get 50% of the shed built ----but when help arrived each with Black and Decker power screwdrivers we got it within an hour! Screws, screws and more screws!!!!!!!!!!! That takes time!!!!!!!!! in Arizona you need to think about bees--where ever you see a gap, get calk and fill even the smallest hole. I had Africanized bees in my water meter cover---not nice!!!!
This made me laugh so freaking hard! 😂🤣 Sorry you had such a tough time, and hopefully you didn't get stung by one of those gangster bees 🤣. But seriously, you're right... You definitely need at least one helper and you'll both need a drill. We only had one working drill and it worked out ok.
lol this dude just reviewing anything
+Thefastlane425 🤣 #JustDoinReviews!
Thefastlane425 His channel name implys just that. I love the content he provides.
IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE POSTITIVE REMARK?
I got sick with your camera work
I think this guy likes his model kit shed so much he's going to move in when he gets divorced and will be happy when he turns the door handles reminiscing about the door handles on his ex wife's house thinking he got the better part of the deal 👻
HOW DID DIVORCE COME INTO THE CONVERSATION. BIZZARE!
Play this back to yourself and see how many times you used the unnecessary and annoying word "ACTUALLY"
Play this back to yourself and substitute the word "ACTUALLY" for "You should go watch another video is you don't like this one." Have an awesome day!
@@NewStuffTV1 LOLS, AGREED. SOME HATERS JUST HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO.
BETTER YET, HOW ABOUT YOU READ YOUR OWN COMMENT AND SEE HOW NEEDLESSLY ANNOYING YOU ARE.
