      Yep, most people probably think the joke is based on the more recent issue of Star Wars shooting itself in the foot due to recent leadership being more interested in identity politics than making a good story. I think the difference is that Dune was a book series first and was finally done as a movie in 1984, whereas Star Wars was a movie first and then screen adapted back into a book... Many people only go by the movie they saw first which was Star Wars in 1977...

      @@pauljinkerson6359 Oh most definitely! Star Wars was a fun "romp" through action and adventure much like the various serial entertainment condensed into a movie, Dune was very difficult to condense down into a single movie in 1984 (although done fairly well) and that is why I believe they have been parsed into several sections since the original release. There is just too much vital information, dense intrigues and entanglements, as well as philosophical and cultural variations. Dune was among my earliest forays into sci-fi books along with many of the works from other titans of the Sci-Fi Genre.

      @MrNaesme Před 13 dny +9

      Well, technically it's possible it is anonymous and the login is just to ensure you only do it once, or to ensure you even do it at all, or to make sure the survey is for the right location and you are a legitimate employee of the store.
      When you hit submit, the form is sent to the web server, your answers are stripped out and passed to a database where it can't be traced back to you then your profile is marked as complete.
      I mean, we can't actually verify that's how it's being done but that's how most surveys work.

      @adb888 Před 12 dny +1

      @@MrNaesme Yep, that's what they TELL you, or not... A lot of places send you to Survey Monkey or some other site, some workplaces (Federal & state) usually use some independent company. In any event, they usually do record what department/unit you work in, meaning that they've already assigned descriptors to your input, and once they do that, it doesn't take a knowledgeable manager to figure out who you are unless your feedback is VERY generic, thus useless.

    nearly ALL therapist are required to get therapy themselves (usually by law in most States). this is because dealing with all the problems of other people and the people themselves is such a mental strain, they have to regularly have therapy in order to maintain their mental health. We shut the place down laughing and happy with the staff as they locked up for the night. It's not about just money, but in treating people right. In terms of that Pixar's "Cars" post, there's a popular fan theory called the Pixar theory. It is, or at least was, speculated that every Pixar movie exists on a single timeline with "Monsters, Inc." being the proposed end of the timeline. The monsters at the company are going back in time to initially get fear-induced screams as an energy source. The old witch in "Brave" is speculated to be Boo from "Monsters, Inc." since she not only uses door magic similar to the monsters' technology, but also has art depicting Sully. "Cars" I think is speculated to happen when humans left Earth(as shown in "Wall-E") but before they return on one of the Axium ships(I forget how it's spelled).

      As the theory goes the cars are like insects that evolved to mimic actual cars. Initially using the bodies like a hermit crab does but over time just copying that form. The "doors" would be where the carapace splits where the wings would be but as they were to heavy the wings have atrophied and just walking.
      The tires are a later development as they evolved specialized locomotion with tires being used to make it easier, much like shoeing a horse.

    @3:55 I've seen some schedules with wandering weekends. Schedules had 4 day work weeks but the extra day off changed each week. The first week it might be a Monday, then the following week Tuesday, etc. It also meant that every month you ended up with a four day weekend on the Friday-Monday transition. It also let you hit the other brick and mortar shops on your extra day off.

    Page 174 of TKAM contains the imfamous phrase "...and I saw that black n*gger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella!"
    We read it in school. One of my classmates had the honour of reading it aloud (because we had the whole book as a group aloud reading project) and since he was a drama student, he got up and did a very convincing Bob Ewell impression for the whole paragraph.
    There's another part of the book where Scout says the word, and Atticus says "Don't say n*gger scout, it's common". I read that one. It's a quote from a book, so I don't think there's any malice to it.

The older you get, the more your brain interprets reckless behavior as straight up dangerous behavior, you have no freedom to celebrate, many of your dreams have likely either died or come true but didn't turn out like you'd hoped or revealed themselves to be so costly to achieve that they're no longer worth celebrating, and the only thing keeping you from feeling joy is not being able to leave the party early.

By the end of the project you're so sick of seeing the game you absolutely don't want to touch it again for a long long time even though you often get a free copy. Often I didn't even want to play other games. It's hard to turn off the "tester mode," so you constantly notice every tiny little bug in every game. Especially ones you know really don't matter like the characters foot clipping about 2 pixels into the ground or rocks slightly floating in a corner somewhere. Takes all the fun out of gaming.

    Regarding the part about making sure you don't forget your kid in the backseat...
    Thankfully I'm too anxiety-ridden to have ever done this, but when you're a new parent, especially for your first kid, you are exhausted all the time to the point that your body goes into autopilot when doing mundane, routine things. Add to that the fact that riding in a car is basically free melatonin for young children, it would be very easy to forget they were there since they're so quiet while sleeping. It was my biggest fear for MONTHS that I would just go into autopilot and go straight to work one day instead of going to my mother-in-law's house to drop the baby off first. So as stupid as it might sound, any trick/feature/whatever that could potentially save your kid's life even just once from this happening is worth it.

    About learning to read at a young age, and the affect it has on vocabulary. I learned to read at a young age, and did not always understand what I read. The most primary example of this I can think of is when I read melancholy for the first time. In my head, I pronounced it may-long-cally. Then one day in English class, I said it as such, and my teacher just looked at me like I'd taken a dump in the middle of class.
