You're comparing apples to oranges here. Compare the same year Simplicity with the same year JD. There have been some major improvements in deck and motor technology over the past 15 years. I'm on the fence about a JD or simplicity. The cut quality is most important. The factory-installed striping kit gives the edge to simplicity. JD does offer the nice Kawi but Simplicity does not. I'm looking for a higher-end mower. A Simplicity Prestige vs the JD X500 series. Need test drive both
My 2003 Poulan with a 19.5 Briggs and 42” deck is still going. I bought a new JD X330. I really don’t notice and better cut with the JD. Owned the JD since March 2023. I now passed 115.6 hrs today. Lots of nice amenities on the JD. Several issues, #1, grass blows up onto the deck and my feet, #2 my seat is split already!
While my Deere mower deck does blow some clippings out the front, I haven’t had any blow up on my feet. I’ve heard others complain about split seats. So far mine has been fine. Thanks for watching the video.
My 1999 Sears 42' with a 426CC, allegedly 16.5 but really 15HP Kohler Command Pro, has 900 hours on it. Carb leak this week, first engine issue. I have 2 homes and didn't want two tractors. I do now. The 3 acre house is getting the X330. Seems to be the best bang for the buck these days. Even low end garbage (like mine, minus the great engine) cost over 2K. I also have a 24 y/o 9HP snow blower with a Briggs.500 ft driveway. No complaints with those old engines. Then Kohler makes a Courage and Briggs with the Intek. Knock on wood X2 for me and 2 for you.
I own a Simplicity Broadmoor 1997 version that I purchased new. Still using it! I had the mulch kit on it for the 1st 15 years or so. It did clump grass most of the time. I would have to keep going over the clumps to try and disperse. Mower deck rotted out, so when I replaced, I don’t mulch anymore, side discharge only. If I cut in damp conditions or take off too much length it still tends to clump, slightly. Good cut with the 38 in deck. Started to look at new lawn tractors this spring because mine was in shop for repairs, however, they managed to fix my Simplicity, thankfully. When I started to research brands I would have had a hard time purchasing a new lawn tractor because from what I read, all new ones are inferior to the older lawn tractors. 😀🇨🇦
I appreciate your comments. My new John Deere definitely dispersed the grass better then my old Simplicity. No clumping at all, which I like. Both are good tractors, but the X series Deere does mow better.
My Simplicity Regent lasted me 25 yrs. It run flawlessly. The mulching system gave me a beautiful cut. Unfortunately the deck body didnt last due to poor design and shoddy maintenance on my part. Now I need to purchase a new mower….big decision! Great comparison.
I’m glad you found it helpful. N going to post a more detailed video about the different tractors I compared before buying and my experience to date with my X330. Thanks for watching.
I had a 1998 (if my memory serves me well) Simplicity Conquest. At the time it had a Vanguard engine but I don't think they do now. Anyway, at least at that time, the Conquest was an absolutely fantastic tractor. I moved to the country from Toronto in 1998 as a city boy knowing nothing about lawn tractors so I went on the net and found a site called Garden Web where there was a message board on lawn tractors. They were all tractor nuts and it was an excellent site to get knowledgeable, professional information. They recommended the Conquest and they were absolutely right, at least at the time.
Long story short, many years later I bought a Simplicity zero great turn but it got stuck in wet ground a few times, and had to use my Chevy Tahoe to get it out. Actually, it was a very good mower. I kinda missed my Conquest and so I sold the zero turn on the net and a guy offered to trade my Simplicity for his John Deere X380 with only 50 hours on it plus he also gave me an additional $1,500. The local John Deere dealer in Kingston Ontario said I stole it. So far so good and two seasons later I'm very happy with it. Good thing it has the Kawasaki motor.
Very nice informative video. The X300 series are over built lawn tractors and I can't wait to pick one up at the end of the year. I'm currently stuck between the X330 and the X350 myself. I currently have a LX280 with a 18hp Kawasaki V-twin and it's been AWESOME so I am siding towards the X350
I appreciate your comment. I wrestled with which model, 330 vs 350. So far I’m ver happy with the x330. The engine purrs and is plenty powerful. I imagine either will serve you well.
I have had 2 blade mower deck and now have 3 blade mower deck. I would never go back to a 2 blade deck ever. The john deere 42 is a 2 blade but if go to 48 it is a 3 blade. Do not know about a simplicity their are not any dealers where I live.
I have a Broadmoor with a 48" deck that was BOUGHT 2 years ago. Not sure if I'd BUY one now though. The deck lift is a real struggle for my repaired shoulders! Should've tried it out at the dealer.
I can appreciate that. A deck that size is heavy. My old Simplicity had a 38” deck that wasn’t too bad. My Deere 42” isn’t exactly light, but is manageable.
Yes they do. Briggs owns Simplicity/Snapper and makes the same tractors under different names. They are good machines. I believe the Snapper models are priced more affordably than the equivalent Simplicity last time I looked.
I’m glad you like your Simplicity. The cut quality may depend on the deck you choose. I had a 38” deck on my Regent. It cut ok, but did not disperse the clipping well and left lots of clumps. Perhaps the larger decks work better. My X330 definitely cuts better overall for my lawn. Both are great brands. Hope you enjoy your machine.
Wow I have been trying to buy a simplicity for over a yr. I have the conquest and it's just about had the rap but has been a great mower. I have about 2 acares I mow. But now I can't find 1 anywhere. Thanks for the video very good o by the way been looking at the john deer and I think you have helped me make up my mind on the deer
I’m glad you found it helpful. The conquest is a good machine, more akin to the 5 or 7 series Deere. I’m my opinion you can’t go wrong with either. I plan to post 1 yr update video when mowing season starts.
@@SDX330 yes you helped me make up my mind but I can't find one of them either. I sure hope they start getting the mowers out I'm in need of a mower. Right now I am fixing mine up to hold me off until I can find me a new one. Enjoyed your channel
That’s a good question. My Deere has a better cut then my Simplicity. In my assessment it does a better job lifting the grass as it cuts, for a cleaner cut. The floating Simplicity deck might be better for hilly terrain, but I have not had any issues with my new X330. It also disperses the grass better the my old Simplicity. Hope that helps.
This makes no sense. Maybe I should do a review of my 1983 Wards 5hp snowblower and compare it to my Cub Cadet 13hp 420cc engine with power steering larger engine. I'm glad I turned off the video
I thought I might miss the Simplicity by the new Deere has exceeded my expectations. My old Regent served me very well for 13 years but the frame did feel tired. The X330 is definitely much more substantial.
Simplicity much better mower deck , it rides the ground . John Deere has a nice tractor. Mower deck, all 4 corners are solid to tractor . J. D. Grill and hood are PLASTIC. Not good . Simplicity is STEEL .
Yes the hood and grill are Steel, which I did like on my Simplicity, hence why I added the grill guard for my Deere. As far as the mower deck, while the Simplicity deck does follow the front axle, the cut quality with my X330 42” deck is definitely better than my 38” Simplicity deck. I have one spot in my yard where both would scalp on occasion, so I’m not convinced it makes a difference. The Simplicity does stripe better. I’ve just added a stripe kit to my Deere so I will post a video soon on how it performs. Thanks for watching.

@@SDX330 have a question about an old snapper if I can get any help I'd greatly appreciate it
Hi Todd, some of the Snapper models are essentially a Simplicity Regent without the floating mower deck. Which model are you looking at?
Great video. Thanks

What's the sticker above the X330 logos on the hood say? Is that a DH Marvin tractor?
Yes, I purchased it new from them.
The first run tight turn series 2019 to 2021 ...T240..T260 have them both beat

I Just purchased the new simplicity 42/23 regent with the fabricated deck. It now runs the v twin Briggs and Stratton. So far no complaints.
I’m sure you will love the tractor. It’s possible the 42 fabricated deck dispersed the grass better then the stamped 38 on my old machine.

Why do you feel that way. The Simplicity Regent is currently priced in the same range as the X330.
Nice comparison - Hopefully you won't miss the Simplicity cut. The Regents feel like you are riding on a piece of tin that's for sure.

simplicity usually doesnt put those lower end kohler engines in their stuff. makes me think its not original motor?
Simplicity is owned by Briggs and Stratton now, but when I had mine they were still independent and used the Courage engine in my model.
