The quality of your video is excellent, no loud music, no background noise. Excellent, I recommend this for all new Deere owners. Have subscribed and looking to view more of your videos.

    I bought a riding mower about 18 years ago.. a murray brand.. it's still running..it has at least 1800 hours on it.. all original.. I'm finally replacing the drive and blade belts..every time I start looking I'm blown away and totally turned off by all the over engineering.. you and other manufacturers have made the simplest of things complex.. amazing..

Replaced deck because I abused the thunder out of it. Am old guy with arthritis in my hands so I put a JD turning knob on the steering wheel and it really helps,

    I can attest to the possibility of damage from water. I mow our yard with a honda hrx217 and the last 10 minutes last week i was caught in the rain. I pulled my mower back out today and thought otd be a good idea to clean under it. Grass was more than an inch thick and was molded and still wet. Honda uses a type of plastic,i think called nexite for their decks,so nothing was damaged.

    Just got my x380 yesterday. Should I have to adjust my scalping wheels or should they be set when I get them. Also if I have no concrete pad then I would assume the deck wash would not be able to be used by me. Thanks for doing this video. You did a great job on it and it is very helpful.

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  Před 2 lety

      You would still need to adjust your anti scalping wheels based on the height that you are going to mow at. and it will also work on asphalt or any other hard solid surface. Just not in dirt or grass. hope this helps and i hope you enjoy your new mower! Thanks for watching!

  • @gomher9145
    @gomher9145 Před 3 lety +1

    Good job, However I would have mentioned on the deck leveling that it should not be necessary to have to relevel it unless you forget to check the tire pressures first. Another cause for it to change is if you step on the deck and put too much weight on the deck support system.
    Thanks

    @typsytrae Před 2 lety +3

    Great video! One question though. You mention using air and not using water to clean the top of the deck because water could develop rust. Wouldn’t the bottom of the deck develop rust too, if you use the wash out port?

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  Před 2 lety +3

      Thank you! Yes, this could be an issue but this is why when you use the wash out port you should kill the water after the cleaning and then let the blades continue to run after shutting of the water to dry the underside. Thanks for watching!

  • @scottgarmon4865
    @scottgarmon4865 Před rokem +1

    I bought the x380 13 months ago and have 150 hours on it. Just after a few days of owning it I had to bypass the seat sensor and reverse button for the blades.
    I understand they are there for safety reasons but it is a little ridiculous. For a 6k dollar mower I am disappointed with the cheap plastic deck wheels that keep melting off its axle. Other than those three issues it has been a great machine with plenty of power. I’ll score it 8.0 out of ten.

  • @acihawaii
    @acihawaii Před měsícem

    I feel the X380 would work for me. I have a small farm 3 1/2 acres. I would like to get additional income mowing other farms or yards. Nevertheless, a zero turn would not be too good on my farm. I thought the 48 deck would be better in case I get a few residential accounts via calling property managers.

    Great video and very helpful for someone like myself considering this machine. Thoughts on the X380 instead of a JD ZT for a 1/2 acre lot that slopes and has several trees to mow around? Would a ZT be a better option or does this thing turn fairly tight with the 48" deck?

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  Před 3 lety

      If I was looking for a machine with a tight turning radius I would look more in the 4-Wheel Steer tractor style mowers or a ZT. The 4-Wheel Steer does cost a little extra but is very worth it. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I have the cash to upgrade to a new tractor but after looking at what JD has, I'm thinking resolving the lx188's issue and keeping it another few years. Not liking the "improvements" here at all. Also, my water cooled Kawasaki is a lot quieter than that.

    what's the best tool to use for sharpening mower blades? I see most people doing it by hand with a file or small electric drill, but it's hard to keep the edge straight doing it by hand. Is there some automated way of sharpening blades with a machine guide to keep the edge straight? How do blade manufacturers sharpen the blade? I doubt they do it by hand. It would be nice to keep the same angle set by the manufacturer, only I never know what that angle is supposed to be. Do John Deere shops have a machine to sharpen blades at a set angle?

      @@WesternEquipment thanks! It kinda frustrates me to see that most people still have to sharpen mower blades the same way it was done 100 years ago. It's like no progress has been made for sharpening mower blades hahahahaha. I used to take my blades to a tool and die machinist and he could put a perfect edge on the blade in about a minute. I have no idea how he did it though, trade secret I guess. He's gone now and when I try to do it myself, it takes several minutes and I just make an ugly mess out of it. So now I just buy new blades and donate my old ones to a small engine shop. It just seems to me in 2020 there should be some easy, automated way of putting a smooth, straight sharp edge on a mower blade at the proper angle without having to take it to a professional. I certainly can't do it by hand.
