EUROVISION 2022 - MY SEMI FINAL 1 PREDICTIONS (PRE-REHEARSALS)

- Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you're new here, my name's Rachel and I'm a huge Eurovision fan as well as a classical musician.
In today's video, I go through my predictions for Semi Final 1, for this years upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2022. These are not my personal qualifiers, but mere predictions of the most likely outcome for the semi-finals.
My personal qualifiers are as follows, which are different to my predicted qualifiers.

🤔Here are my thoughts...
🇺🇦 🇳🇴 Safe: Possible televote winners and they'll might get a respectful amount of votes from juries as well.
🇳🇱 🇬🇷 🇵🇹 Safe: Might be juries' top 3 and can also get love from televoters.
🇦🇱 🇲🇩: Televoting will be enough to save them, even if the jury score is not that good. Safe
🇱🇹 🇨🇭: Imo, there's room for one of them. Both will get lot of votes from the juries but Monica's charisma can ensure the necessary televote support in order to sneak through, while I see Switzerland getting lost...
🇭🇷 🇦🇲: Borderline both in juries and televoting. One of them will fight for the last qualifying places and the other one will be forgotten. For now the odds are in favour of Rosa Linn...
🇦🇹 🇱🇻: Both rely on televote support but the big votes will go for Albania & Moldova. Running order favours "Halo" but Citi Zeni will nail the live performance. For me Latvia has more chances, but still very borderline...
🇸🇮: It's the dark horse for me. I believe that juries will appreciate the high quality composition and retro funky mood might appeal to a lot more viewers than most people think...
🇩🇰 🇮🇸: The two girl groups. One of them might be the surprise qualifier but still not many chances. I personally adore Iceland.
🇧🇬: At this moment, I can not see anyone voting for this. Dead last indeed, but it might get some votes from neighbours.
All in all, here is my prediction of the possible 10 finalists, from the most certain to the most uncertain:

I think you make some really strong points for all the songs.
Honestly, I don't want Latvia through, but you're likely to be right they'll be high enough in the televote to cancel out the jury ranking.
Interestingly I've seen a few others mention that Subwoolfer might get some jury support (not winning, but still doing OK) because it's current, they can sing, and the overall staging is well-done and clearly has a lot of time and effort invested into it and there is of course the originality criteria they also look at. I'm just worried that a lot of jurors might get stuck on the lyrics and feeling like they can't sign their name behind a song like that. Maybe it's just cause I'm Norwegian, and the past few years juries have really hurt our chances so we're always expecting that now.
My qualifiers are for the moment Norway, Armenia, Ukraine, Portugal, Albania, Greece, Netherlands, Moldova, Lithuania, and Austria (but it needs to work live - this is my 10th for now though).
Love your comments! And i really hope that lithuania and slovenia qualify because of the quality of their songs! In a more objective view i think Austria Armenia Moldova and Lithuania will fight for the last three spots to the final.

I’ve been thinking about the public votes too, cause we have some “tricky” songs this year and maybe some song that is not on my top 10 is gonna win. While the majority of the jurors are musicians, many aren’t. So the visuals, choreography, stage presence, etc of an act can make or break their standing. In a semi as pact with talent as this, it will make a big difference.
I know that my request might be somehow out of the blue but I respect so much your opinion as a musician 🙂
I would love to see your reaction/review to Yannis Papadopoulos Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Vocal Cover). His vocal range is out of this planet ;)
He is also the lead singer of the metal band Beast in Black from Finland and I totally recommend the song Blind and Frozen.

I agree with you, but I would change moldova with lithuania, (her uniqueness will be enough to qualify and I also believe that moldova wont get THAT high score from the televoters to be enough to qualify)

Out of those ten entries i think albania, ukraine, the netherlands, portugal, austria, greece and norway are going to qualify, and moldova and armenia will most likely qualify too instead of croacia. The 10th spot i would say it's for either denmark or latvia (probably latvia let's be honest, but i prefer denmark, so i like to keep the possibility of it being a shock-qualifier)
Did you see the House Party Ep 1 with LPS? They were just jamming to Silence In My Head and it will probably push them through the finals. They convinced me.
Actually the 4 spot in semi final 1 is the deadly spot, only strong songs have made it through before. I like your prediction and I share it.
I think and feel that Swedens Hold me closer with Cornelia Jacobs is a awesome masterpiece . It has good chances to win! Genuine, heartfelt, natural, fantastic! Sweden and Cornelia deserves to win! And I think it will win. Love from Norway
So far I've got these, but could easily be completely off (I'm much less sure than last year).

Matt Berry 🤣I think you're 3. comment was interesting, I agree with you there. If Greece doesn't go through, there is def something wrong with the matrix haha.
@@ThePeaceAround Yeah, every year there's those songs that you really need to see what sort of mood the public's in, all of those songs are tough to call, and could easily overtake those in tier 2, and they could just as easily do worse than tier 4. But it seems we have similar theories overall, and as you said, the final predictions can only be made once rehearsals start.

THANK YOU!! People forget that the juries are made up of fellow musicians, so it's ridiculous for people to assume that the juries would hate Latvia and Slovenia. The arrangement is too good for them not to notice.
Slovenia yes, but Latvia they might set it as a joke entry. The lyrics are just too nonsensical but the first listeners and they might rule it out immediately.
As for Slovenia it depends on staging, but it has massive potential. We just need to see if they improve their live performance, but the song is awesome and can be a jury pleaser indeed.

Well you did make a lot of sense with your musical analysis here as well as the trends f the public and the juries.
For me, I would take a different position about Moldova and put it as a non qualifier.
Also Armenia and Latvia I think won’t quite make it although I admit they are borderline cases. Latvia seems a borderline case.
Now if I’m wrong about any of those three Id expect to be wrong about Latvia.
It could qualify but my gut is telling me it might not.
My reason for this is because the song seems to appeal to a certain demographic because of its crass undertones.
And they love it. But on the big night they aren’t allowed to use that language, and it reduces that crass appeal.
And what you have left is a song that can be somewhat irritating, especially as regards how repetitive the second half of it is.
Maybe I’m saying this because I’m not a big fan of this.
But my gut tells me it could possibly just fall short.
But you make some good points about it.
And about Moldova, here’s the thing.
For weeks most CZcams countdowns places it 35th to 40th.
Then some started to rate it higher and in no time others started to copy them.
In the Eurovision CZcams community I feel as though people influence each other and copy each other as regard what’s good and what isn’t.
Moldova is a very repetitive folk song. Very little variation there it’s the same thing throughout.
For weeks nobody likes it on CZcams and suddenly lots of people on CZcams like it.
Something doesn’t make sense about that to me.
And Armenia. I just think it’s very overrated in the Eurovision CZcams community. My reading of the public is that they wouldn’t be that blown away by it.

Moldava song reminds me the sound track the movie "white cat, black cat", by Emir kusturika. Emir Kusturika and the no smoking orchestra! But not as good because that's one of my favourites of all time! 😊

I don't think Austria is making it. Norway is gonna eat up all the EDM votes. If we agree that Bulgaria is not qualifying, then I think Denmark might take that spot. Rock fans are more likely to vote for it than Bulgaria (I think) + they have reliable voting friends with Norway and Iceland being there. Besides, Denmark has qualified with less.
True, Denmark got through with 2019. But Idk if they'll do it this year, is it enough of a rock song? Will rock fans snub the whole semi-final, that's the question 😅

i think iceland will qualify... juries top 6 and televote around 10th which will be enough
also there's no way all latvia, norway and moldova are qualifying... latvia will probs be in the bottom 3 with the juries

I agree with everything you said, except for Portugal. Maro is among my 10 qualifiers, but, objectively, I don't think she'll qualify, not even as a "maybe" :(. In my opinion, juries will place her in the top 10, but in the lower part; and she will get lost in the televoting, resulting in her non-qualifying.
Also, the first half of this semi-final is much stronger than the second one (and that is portrayed in your analysis). The only one I clearly don't see qualifying from the 1st half is Bulgaria, as you said. The rest are either sure qualifiers or "maybes"

Do you know that she is being produced by Quincy Jones and made a duet with Eric Clapton. Someone show him her cover of a piece of Tears in Heaven and he said "ask that kid of she wants to sing it all". You must follow her social network and, most of all, her CZcams channel. She had 40k before nacional selection and now she's almost 60k. It's a true delight for music loves! 💛😊 So, she's a winner already, this is only Eurovision! I don't think Latvia will qualify, i personally don't like this song, even Bulgaria is better than Latvia :) my qualifiers: Albania, Lithuania, Ukraine, Portugal, Netherlands, Greece, Norway, Armenia (all those 8 for sure), and 2 maybe: Slovenia, Iceland or Moldova (depends on the mood of people voting on that particular evening).

I personally wont be sad if Moldova and Latvia flop. However I have a soft spot for Guilty pleasure, and hope it's a surprise qualifier. All the female acts are fine actually, apart from Denmark, which is not.
I feel the same about Croatia, I think it's a really nice song. I hope they bring something good with the staging
