- Hello...
Looks like you've found the description. Welcome to the world of Awesome: A land of good times, comedy, and unnecessary information. Like and subscribe if you dare ;)
In the missions Wolverines and Exodus, we play as a US soldier fighting back against Russia in Northeast Virginia following the beginning of an invasion. The former offers a huge play space with many hidden details to discover outside the map, while the latter helps connect the pieces of a secret storyline in Modern Warfare 2. I absolutely loved putting this together and I hope you all enjoy.

The Russian invasion of the US campaign although extremely fictional, is undoubtedly one of the greatest campaigns in the COD series.
extremely fictional, Russia never invades anyone.
@@curioplayshmmmmm Ukraine seems to disagree 😂😂😂
@@curioplaysand afghan 😂😂😂
@@curioplays Ehh its a provoked reaction, ukraines politicians brought it upon themselves for decades
I have played every campaign and the invasion was by far the most epic campaign ever.
There is a chance some kid was playing this game in 2009, went outside, and was like "holy shit, this is my fucking neighborhood".
kinda me in a way. they modeled the missions after loudoun county, VA. more specifically Ashburn, and thats where i live. pretty cool to see neighborhoods and shopping centers that look like my town.
Funnily enough this was me. They modeled the burger town area, including the other restaurants, highway ramps, and near by streets, on an area in Vancouver, WA, where I grew up. It's near the Vancouver mall. There's a video on youtube comparing them.
I know what you mean. I used to model Counter Strike maps after my high school.
I lived in Northern Virginia at the time, so it was crazy playing a war game set in my own back yard. They got the feeling of Wealthy D.C. area suburban neighborhood perfect.
@@maxweber1551I came here to mention this! when i first played it felt so familiar and I was like NOOO! Is this the Burgerville by the mall!? lol. good shit.
"I'm looking at fighter jets over I-95! How the hell did they get through?!"
Always loved that line in the briefing and I drive on it almost everyday, couldn't imagine seeing that in real life 💀
Fr though, I loved these missions, they’ve stuck with me to this day, I always wondered what it would be like going through all the homes and DC and seeing all the carnage, and the map in the first part of the video shows you they wanted to do more, it’s sad and amazing to see
Its such a cool detail but the cutscene makes it look like 95 completely bypasses Massachusetts and it bothers me so much
@wyattr7982 Yeah that could be chalked up to it's on screen for 5 seconds and they weren't expecting anyone to look in that much detail
@@kingkuda3458they got the shape of it pretty accurate but it’s just ever so slightly to the left because I-95 is closer to the coast than where it’s at in game, still great detail though
As someone from NOVA the neighborhoods in these missions are spot fuckin on
I remember hearing the panic over the radio for the first time, and getting chills knowing I was about to be fighting to defend my homeland. Something very few games have successfully done.
“Defend my homeland”
Calm down Virgin. It’s just a fucking game.
Another thing you just missed but I thought I'd comment on:
The Russian soldiers paratrooping in Wolverines and Exodus are real AI enemies which will shoot at you if you get close enough. Even the BTR's that are parachuted in are fully-modelled BTRs. Depending on where the parachuter is programmed to land, they'll either fall right through the floor and despawn, or successfully land wait around a few seconds and then despawn. This is dependant on whether or not you can see where they will land.
Just another thing in MW2 that totally didn't need to be so fleshed out (i.e a fake paradrop background would've worked fine) but they decided to put so much more effort in to it anyway.
And that's why this game is a masterpiece, so much effort put in even for bits that didn't need effort.
A time where devs really cared, that original infinity ward team had as much passion as the original bungie did
actually dumping already existing assets onto a parachute is less work than creating a 2d fake background that would look worse anyway. but hey, you do you.
Someone found the IRL location this map was based on, it's in Vancouver, Washington. It's a plaza at the intersection of NE Thurston Way and NE Vancouver Plaza Dr. It's changed a bit since 2009 but it's still pretty recognizable.
That is insane, thank you for this information.
@@ThatWasAwesomeYT This is actually in Springfield Virignia. Specifically, Frontier Drive near the Silver Diner which has the same intersection with the i395 overpass that goes to 95. Has a chicken place in the same spot too lol
Yep! I grew up in Vancouver and I've been to the area this map is modeled after many times. It blew my mind when I played the game. I was like "ive been there!!"
Seems like a lot of the buildings with interiors would have had enemies spawning in the windows to shoot us in what they originally planned from the opening intro of the mission.
I agree! I'm thinking there was originally some kind of chase scene leading through the suburbs and ending with a jump into the second part of the mission.
@@ThatWasAwesomeYTI’m thinking that they may have scrapped it due to how similar it is to the intro mission and to Arcadia which may have been recycled from what this mission might have been
Did you know, the reason you get jumped by a BTR at the start of the mission is because you have Charms candy in the Humvee.
WUT?
Damn they just wanted a snack
@@ammoniumphosphate picked the wrong snack 😂
Yuuuuuuup
@@4ank117 Bad luck MRE candy
It was today I realized a Burger Town double burger costs less than the single. 12:31
12:06
The cool thing about the mission is that this was based off a section of Vancouver Washington, more specifically the section of highway 500 it is a one for one comparison. The ramp and the location of the business are exactly the same. It is crazy to see them in real time.
I used to hit the Taco Bell or hooligans after work in the Automall
@AntiQuake I remember when hooligans was TGI Fridays before they went out of business
Yes! I remember when taco bell had the little shed. I was so sad when they took it out irl!
That’s really cool. This game was released the same year I used to live over there too and I never realized. I remember getting Jamba Juice in the mall.
My friend hit me with that fun fact like a year ago. Driven through that area many a dozen times so it's cool to know
Cod 4 and mw2 no doubt best campaigns ever. They just had a certain vibe to them that I picked up on while playing them back in the day, and I just recently replayed the whole trilogy on hardened difficulty recently and it still had that same special vibe to it. I can’t explain it but im sure a lot of you know what I’m talking about.

Yes, I regret making this shitpost. Don't worry, I agree with you... COD 4 and MW2 were the best. Gen Alpha would never understand how amazing the OG Modern Warfare was... I'm sorry if I offended you or did something wrong.

@@winkee1915 What do you mean?
CoD2:
I'd love someone to make this mission as a zombie map.
And you have to wait for a convoy to escape.
I thought the MW2 campaign was so awesome man. On one side of the story you’re traveling through Favelas and fighting in Gulags and on the other side you’re fighting at home in your neighborhoods until you reach DC. No Campaign could ever replicate this.
i think wolverines is so large outside play space with collisions is because you can see alot more from the UAV and potentially fire the UAV missle ouside the play space
Bingo
Imagine your house exists in the lo-res ground texture for one of the most iconic missions in one of the most iconic game of the late 2000s.
The BTR actually drives in reverse to that street after you throw the smoke grenades
oh no..I had the footage! I forgot to add it :(
@@ThatWasAwesomeYT that's fine man don't worry about it, you still made an awesome video
Apparently Raptor was originally going to be the President, but it was ultimately changed.
This mission is so beautiful, the soundtrack has always been amazing to me
Hans Zimmer did the soundtrack. He’s amazing, he did the soundtrack for the movie Interstellar as well. Iconic.
I think there's a theory that the "not so average trooper" who was dead outside of the HVIs panic room was one of the guys from No Russian. You see a Harrier take off as you approach 4677 brookmere that ties into that theory
I never thought about that, so the harrier dropped him off?
@OJ9992 if I'm remembering correctly, one of the shooters from No Russian is tasked with killing the HVI by Sheppard, he knows "icepick/phoenix" so the HVI opens the door (hence "no sign of forced entry"). He kills the HVI, and is then killed by someone else who is taken aboard the harrier, so the players squad misses what happened by minutes. There's some substantial missing pieces of info though, the game doesn't give you too much to work with.
@@jamesjonathan7187 So Shepherd was working with Makarov’s guys? I really wish IW had explained who the HVI was and who was on that Harrier. Shadow Company?
@OJ9992 yea the theory may not make perfect sense, but the jist was that Sheppard wanted the HVI dead while making it look like he wanted him rescued. Could be he leaked the call sign/counter sign then a shadow company dude took out Makarov guy shortly after killing the HVI then he left in the harrier. It's weird they didn't give us more to work with, the scene us really weird and there's clearly something going on between the harrier, the tattooed shooter, and the lack of forced entry.
I'm going to look into this and if I find anything I might make a short on it!
"WOLVERINES!!" with guns held to the sky is the perfect referance to older movies, even though that doesn't happen in game, it happens in mission name.
Ahh I love the fact fact if you want to you can fuck around and go to places that isn’t even part of the mission. It’s really amazing. Instead of todays most recent call of duty if you even try to look around at shit you just have captions on you’re screen that say “ STAY ON MISSION “ “ GOING THE WRONG WAY “
The map texture you're showing at around the 3 minute mark is I-95 right outside DC. I used to drive that everyday.
Hate to pee in your cheerios bud but the map being used from 2:56 onward is from Vancouver, WA
I lived in northern Virginia when I played this game in high school. It's crazy playing a war game that is set in your own back yard.
I like that the basketball hoop mounted above the garage by the BTR has a metal stand hidden by the rest of the house.
I remember glitching out of the map with the sentry. Man this campaign was fantastic
To noclip faster (especially in large open areas) you can set g_speed 10000 (to restore default speed set g_speed 190). And I think that 2D satellite images were used around the map to make Predator drone POV more realistic
I completely forgot about the Predator drone! That would make a lot of sense.
I remember the co-op mission where one of you were in an ac-130 and another was on the ground and you had to guide them to the other part of the suburbs
The first level has so much exterior space because you use the UAV in it and can see from really high up.
Fun fact about the lost BTR, it can’t be destroyed with an RPG in the OG or remastered unlike the others at the burger town and Nate’s restaurant.
I always loved this mission in particular, just seeing a glimpse of what it be like if America was invaded is crazy, especially to us Americans who probably couldn’t imagine something like this ever happening
Ive spend the last 2 days binge watching your Chanel, I really love this series. It would be nice to see behind the scenes on the new cods aswel, Like MW 2019. Either way im here for whatever you post next.
could you imagine being a security guard for that arcadia gated community and russians just drop in.
I loved exploring this mission. The suburban neighborhood was just so cool to see, especially in the MW2 remastered campaign. The spec ops mission in this area was great too.
MW2 was truly ahead of it's time. What a memorable experience it was playing this game.
I remember taking back the White House and one of your squadmates saying we will do the same to Moscow. Waz looking foward to MW3 and seeing how a US invasion would play out but we never got a chance.
No one cares . Go cry
Loved this game back in the day but I could never get over how bonkers and insane the premise is (mostly pertaining to the Russian invasion). You mean to tell me the US didn't see the massive buildup of Russian forces beforehand? Not to mention, combat jumps and airborne units in general aren't really practical in modern combat situations. Even if we go back to when this game came out, it still makes little sense. But it was dumb fun in the end and I enjoyed it despite the heavy emphasis on fiction. MW2 will always hold a special place in my heart.
I love 7:12 part, feels like you could pick the weapon just like the M4 in the Hornet's Nest mission
The music for this mission was the best. As a kid I was fully immersed in the campaign and generally felt sad because of the music. 😂 MW2 is by far the best COD 👌
Thanks Bro. For these great videos and memory recollections on these old maps. Keep it up. Though I'm a few months subscriber now. I wish you spread further into the community and can do many many more vids for the future to come. Whether old or new games. ❤🎉
I loved Spec Opps, it was my second favorite part of the game, after the campaign.
Gotta save Burger Town!
I love this series! Should do this with every zombie map and every campaign mission throughout all kinds of call of dutys
I may be wrong but I believe the reason for such a big map and collision everywhere in the first map is because of the predator drone. That missile needs to hit some form of ground/hitbox to explode and obviously with an overhead view you need to have some more map decoration than normal. I remember as a kid trying to shoot the missile as far away from the enemies as possible to see more of the map.
This mission intro lives free in my head
This are my favorite missions so glad you covered this
Mw2 campaign was so fun especially these missions playing as the wolverine’s
exploring wolverines was a blast. having an extended version that has the out of bounds parts of this map in 40 vs 40 would be soo goood.
I love this game!! Well done video too! a couple of things I want to say:
1- You forgot to show the BTR reversing.
2- The harriers taking off at the end of the mission.
3- And I believe the Honey Badger randomly crushes a pickup truck after crossing the checkpoint for no reason, if I'm not mistaken.
4- You can shoot the soldier manning the triple A and it would stop shooting!
Overall loved this video, will be playing the campaign for the 100th time soon because of this video. Cheers again!
It would be so cool if one of the developers came across these videos and explained their decision making on these maps from 2009.
That golf corse just got a few new sand traps for free
"70 bogies" I dont think Russia had that many IL-76s in service then, nevermind now lmao
Who else loves specifically campaigns out of bounds? These videos are always the most interesting to me. ❤
This is very quickly becoming one of my favorite channels, keep up the good content. You should go to cod 4 remastered and Noclip there
I'm definitely interested in COD 4 remastered, I'll be looking into it soon ;)
This campaign was such a vibe. The whole atmosphere of this game just hit different.
Hey! love your channel man. I was going to say, i haven’t seen any videos trying to explain Raptor and the side mission you go on in Exodus. I think it’d be cool if you made a video explaining the possibilities of what the side mission was about.
I might make a short covering this in the near future, but I'm not sure if there would be enough content for a full video. I'm looking into it though!
This is a great perspective of the map earned a sub here
Love these campaign vids bro so sick
12:30 you're right, this was an exact copy of the layout of the menus at the time, down to the pictures. They just changed the names.
I forget its name, but that BK burger with the flat bun was fire.
I definitely remember playing this in spec ops! Loved spec ops in this game.
I was living in DC back when MW2 came out. First game I bought along with my first xbox console. I hadn’t really played games since NES.
So there I am ,really getting into MW2. Then the emergency broadcast message comes up and I work on a military base so I’m like ohhh 💩! Is this the game or is this real. That was the only time I could think of that a game scared the heck out of me.
One of my favourite video game missions OAT. The intro is fucking epic.
Been waiting for some of these of games I've actually played.
I usually bring the sentry gun to downstair before going into diner, that saves the sentry from the bombing, then put it back on the roof at the destroyed section where it has a wall for cover so it can still function as a sentry gun when enemy is rushing to burger town.
All that extra detail near Burger Town is because the map is reused for the Special Ops mission "Big Brother". The person on the ground uses a lot more of the accessible map, and the high altitude view of the Blackhawk door gunner requires a lot of detail in the distance. Those little rooms inside upper floors give the door gunner some nice detail as well. Play this map in Special Ops mode and it will make a lot more sense.
Love your content ❤
Very cool to shoe the BTR interior. I've never seen any video or site covering the details on the vehicles
Love the content bro
Awesome vid Man thanks so much, and I totally agree, the Modern Warfare series is the best story telling and action packet ! Except for this last game in the reboot series MW3/DLC which was horrible ! Anyway I get little sentimental watching these old maps.
I always loved using no clip in this mission. Glad to see the video.
something i loved to do as a kid in this game was get out of bounds in the Hidden spec ops mission and explore the All Ghillied Up map that was basically ported from COD4
Fun fact the depiction of Interstate 95 going though Virginia is as fictional as the story of this game. In this game I95 goes though a part of the state that doesn't even have an interstate. It looks like, for some reason, I95 replaced US Route 29 in this universe south of DC
This video was more detailed and entertaining than anything by Boundary Break. I love noclip videos!
From what i recall-- its modelled around the area surrounding infinity wards office in tornto, that low definition image could literally be the surround area that theyre just building the map on top of
The Google map images are from Vancouver, WA
Yeah id always follow foley when he was moving raptor i figured it made sense after you clear out burger town to just sprint back over and cover foley as he moves
this has definitely become one of my favourite channels to watch og cod gameplay can you try do this on cod4 remastered on missions like fng and all ghillied up
I can! Im looking into that very soon :)
@@ThatWasAwesomeYT w bro
Wow I remember this like it was yesterday..
nates resturand literally looks like the inside of a red robbins i go to 😭
14:17 (raises tea) cheers
Edit: I’d imagine the area at 16:10 is supposed to resemble a bayou of some kind
Probably the best intro cutscene to any cod mission
At the end of Exodus when Dunn is talking about the dead Russian soldiers, one of them is from the No Russian Airport mission
Thanks, now i have to try the sentery gun trick in the remaster
gotta love the Red Dawn reference with the level title
It would be a fun idea to compare the campaign level maps to their multiplayer and zombies counterparts. It always fascinates me how similar they look and how they were made to make it work within the mechanics of different game modes.
One of my favorite video games
How the mighty have fallen.. Now we have whatever crap is MW2/3 now.
It's nice to know SGT Foley got promoted to the President of the USA in Rick and Morty.
or the ancient giant dude in a box in Final Space. Keith David is great.
I emailed treyarch and activision and suggested they revisit this game but as civilians fighting alongside u.s. troops to gain a foot hold in these battles as well as other locations within the country. Obviously to no avail
Just another dude from Vancouver, WA to say, yay this is my city!!!!
Specifically the commercial district with the restaurants. That is vancouver plaza, right down the road from the vancouver mall.
One of my all time favorite missions in any cod
Something you didn't mention, even if it is inside of the map, but I find it interesting either way is that in the start of Exodus, if you stay on the left side of the road, you can see a civilian car driving past you (if you stay on its way it will kill you) until it crashes into the barricade and the car blows up.
I used to play these missions over and over again any mission with SGT Foley it was always fun just being a grunt and Foley telling me my orders I didn’t care for the 1 man army missions or Special Forces missions because I had already played so much of 007 Ghost Recon and playing as Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell games
If a was to design maps like these, I would have an uncontrollable urge to hide secrets and references everywhere for noclippers to find.
Another thing to note is that there is a blackhawk that lifts off from the backyard of one of the houses only to then by shot down by the SAMs (look towards the right side house across the river before you cross the bridge into arcadia.)
The plaza was based on a real one in Vancouver Washington of all places. The Nate’s is indeed a TGI Fridays and burger town is actually based off a PNW chain called burgerville. There’s also a Taco Bell and bank. There’s a video on CZcams that shows the plaza along side the MW2 plaza comparison.
Thank god someone (presumably) paid $800 for all the cod games on pc for videos like this.
Would not have been able to do it without all the support! You guys made it happen :)
I-395 is a 14 mile stretch of highway in Northern Virginia and DC. I’m curious who you all think Raptor is? I think he might be a high level guy in the CIA or maybe even a cabinet secretary. I wish the devs would’ve told us who. Could’ve added to the lore for sure.
I like maintaining the mystery of who raptor is. It doesnt matter who it is, uou dont need to know, youre just a grunt following orders to protect a VIP.
Overlord's voicelines with the Predator are wonderful references to the AC-130 from the last game. I only ever played the original Modern Warfare, so its nice to hear that callback.
THEY’RE EVERYWHERE!
36:20 I dont think thats Raptor because Foley would had comment on that (he have seen Raptor and if that was Raptor he would had said that).
also Raptor been inside the freezer for so long I guess is because theres mission scripts bound to him (one been a if killed mission failed and if he gets deleted then that fails).
so he raims untill the game can just flag him as saved, complete the protect stage/state then remove him.
((remmber in older game like Legend of zelda in a lot of cutseens there was a copy of the Link you play as because removing said link crash the game).
Always thought this setting would've made an incredible multiplayer map, it's a shame we never got one in the parking lot by the burger town or in the residential streets with gunfights from either sides of the streets in suburbia...
