Man, the Kharadron Overlords are such a cool army, can't wait to see what else gets released for them in the future.
I once had a dream where I saw this dwarf hold in a mountain forest named “Bellhammer” that itself resembled a giant bell surrounded by a small fenced-in area holding a graveyard and a few sheds. The mountain forest it was built in was very halloween-esc, with purple dirt and black dead trees. A dwarf from another stronghold had arrived who had a bright multicolored patchwork outfit akin to a jester or harlequin, what could be beard armor, as in, sheets of cloth and chainmail over his beard, and a big helmet that completely covered his head except for a single eyehole.
That's awesome! I only dream about humans 😂
I love the image of some early Duardin engineer taking a gyrocopter, design unchanged from the Old World, and welding some nuclear-powered jet engines onto the side like "yep, that'll do'er".
Would love to see a story that goes into detail about how the Kharadron Code was first written in the Council of Madralta and how the Steamhead Pioneers evolved into the Kharadron Overlords. Its kind of a fantasy dwarven equivelant of the Age of Enlightenment in our history; for as fantastical and profit obsessed as the Kharadron are, they're probably the race closest to our modern values because of this.
I note how in the Old World it was stated the three things the Dwarfs valued the most was Age, Wealth and Skill. You can kind of see the Kharadron meritocracy as them essentially removing Age from the equation.
Maaaaaan, I've always liked the Dwarves and fancied building an army only for GW to barely touch their ranges since AoS' start. Hope they get some love in 4th.
love the video and nice Bioshock reference, hopefully its not an omen for Kharadron in the future haha
Andrew Ryan Air.
Easily, hands down, my favorite original faction from Age of Sigmar. What got me curious about AoS, and after reading the Realmslayer series.
Currently a Disciples of Tzeentch player as well thanks to the Aether Wars box set.
As a lifelong orc/elf fan the Kharadron are probably the first dwarfs ever to interest me. They are the crucial part of Age of Sigmar power metal style lore and vibes:) thanks for covering them:)
Awesome video as always. Thank you for going so in depth.
The Monitor and Merrimack were not submarines at all, just surface ships clad in iron, hence the name ironclads :)
You're probably meaning to say the CSS Hunley, which sank in 1864, and was the first semi-successful military submarine
Astute! I was, in fact :) Sometimes I riff a bit and I also happen to be terrible at names (people & ships, apparently!)
Such a cool video ! I really like how you interpret the lore tide to this faction, started to paint this army sometime ago, now it's time to continue
THANK YOU DOUG! I've been hoping for a new video(s) from you on KO for a while. I love the KO lore and story. Some of the books that focus on KO like Overlords of the Iron Dragon, Profits Ruin, and *especially* any of the stories revolving around Drekki Flynt have inspired me to start my own force. So having a video from you up to your modern standars is somethig truly wonderful!!!
Also now I have a higer quality video to show my friend who is interested in KO as well.
Finally some nice lore videos for overlooked factions in AoS, im excited to see what more are coming
Started running a Soulbound campaign recently and these videos are invaluable.
As usual, a great video Doug! Thank you, I find the KO a very interesting faction.
Excellent in-depth vid for an excellent faction of advanced steampunk sky-pirate cloud miners!
Love a lot about them but one of my favorite things is how they adapt to every age.
Chaos ruled everything? Hide in the clouds and build you empire.
An Age of Hope surfaced? Rush in and start making trade & monopolies.
Malign Portents got undead swarming everywhere? Sell out your services of sky-fleets for evacuation duty and move people to safety.
Era of the Beast arises? Take advantage of the increased sky monsters and make new aerial tactics to hunt them for profit and Especially harvest the ones full of aether-gold.
Dawn crusades start up? Sell them metaliths your fleet scooped up and make new contracts for bodyguard work.
They take advantage of everything and fit amazingly into any narrative with their sky powers, business sense and technology.
Also enjoy they always have at least one large war going on with their opposites the monkish traditional Fyreslayers. First tome had them fighting a bloody war against eachother over a molten metal Chamon mountain that was Fyreslayer property but sat on a aether-gold stream, then some Dawner skirmishes as contracts broke down between the escort parties they both wanted and now in Ulgu a violent war breaks out again as a sinister mist there mingles aetheric-gold & ur-gold together into the skies drawing them into open conflict for access to it.
It’s fun to see how different the two factions are and usually have opposing goals as rival mercenary minded factions.
Also the three funny things they’ve done.
1. In their starting days just emerging into the Age of Hope some did double down on their pirate angle by kidnapping free city nobles(usually aelven ones) and ransoming them back that also showed off how effective privateer mercenaries they could be to the city.
2. Back in 2019 when their was a multiplayer chart they had alright relations with almost all the non-order factions Except Flesh-Eater Courts because previously they found they would hire them but in their madness would pay the Kharadron in bloody offal they saw as gold.
3. They had the same reaction to Grungni returning, all these rumors of a new duardin blood-line or super weapon, dashes in and out of universe as he only pumped up the Stormcast Eternals instead so now they’ve double sworn him off and go on about how they’re better without him or the gods. XD
I just decided to switch to AoS and your videos are a huge help getting into the lore!
You know it funny, yesterday I was looking at the faction thinking about making sky pirates, this video is great for a nice catch up thanks.
Also on a side note i think grugni, would greatly admire KO resourcefulness as well there feats in engineering, he probably say "look i left la because i wanted to see how far you can go without depending on me because i might die and who would you have to protect ya, and look you all turn out great" he might even just be ok if they dont worship him and instead see him more like an inventor or buiness partner to help out,
Thanks for all the info.
Sigmar blessed us- a 45 min 2+ tough vid. Time to brew up some coffee 🤘
Amazing video! I want to start collecting and playing Warhammer and I was looking for some information about the armies and their background specifically. I love dwarves and among the 3 "good" dwarf factions, I must say that the Kharadrons are the most appealing...
They as in Games Workshop really need to bring back Valaya and make her the Living Ancestor patron of the Dispossessed also to retcon the whole incest part of her and her brothers lore also bring back the Chaos Dwarves proper.
13:09 from the excerpt that I read of this moment, there were no humans involved, it was actually just duardin mages, a concept that I hope comes to the table top, also nobody turned to stone so that’s pretty cool too.
The Hedonites tome also mentioned Slaanesh Duardin that crafted flesh golems and in “Arkanaut’s Oath” a human mage does get into an argument with a Kharadron Navigator that they’re just using magic with extra steps so it does feel like that stone restriction is gone(as is most duardin resistances to magic) since they’re born from the magic of the realms like every other race.
Um, Doug? The Monitor was not a submarine. There was a confederate Sub in the Amaerican Civil War (Can't recall the name ATM) but the Monitor was NOT capable of submerging....
Well, technically it could submerge... Once. I guess sinking counts? :)
Submarine was called the CSS Hunley (sp?)
And Merrimack had already been scuttled by that point, with the surviving components being captured, modified, rebuilt, and named“Virginia,” so calling her Merrimack in the context of the Battle of Hampton Roads feels a bit off imo.
Not as much of an issue as calling USS Monitor a submarine though. She was a cool ship but not a submarine by any stretch.
Also, Code or The Skies is an excellent read, even if you aren't a Karadron fan, the characters are compelling and fell alive. One thing that I had against Black Library is that their authors seens to "hold their punches" they don't go far enough when they need to (Unless You're writing about Horus Heresy). This book felt like the writer gave everything, it's pretty small but pretty good, give it a try, you won't regret it.
Good stuff!
i love this. i kinda wana see this but for all the factions. specifically sylvaenth. i wana see sylvaneths point of view
An EVE like game about the KO would be awesome! Spreadsheet warriors! Assemble
Great video
Avast ye maties, there is profits to be made!
Just so your tracking the monitor and Merrimack were not submarines. You may be thinking of the hunley.
love me some ko. arguably the best race to be
as far as if you had to actually live in aos
Without question 😝 if I was dropped into AOS, all I want to be is a janitor in a sky port
Can we get the new Seraphon lore please?
Best faction by far! We recently recovered the awesome tradition of riding into battle carrying "The Book"!
Such a great model. The AoS fusion of Dr.Eggman’s robo-backpack + Rules-Lawyer “Ackshully” guy + “the pirate’s code is more of a guideline” = all into a hero that literally has a Battletome as a melee weapon. 📕 💥
@37:31 is that ship just fan art or is that an actual ship in the lore that they use????????, i need to know cause that shxt is sick!!!. i just started listening to "overlords of the iron dragon" book 1 and if that ship is actually lore accurate itll make these books im bout to read soooo much better.
No prophets, only profits.
Need a skaven catching super janitor dwarf called Charlie 👍🏻
Klingon warriors slew our gods millennia ago, they were more trouble than they were worth
Leagues of who? :p I should check if the Leagues and the Overlords minis are compatible with each other for kitbashing fun
Step 1: get driven out of your holds into the sky
Step 2: fny sky gold?
Step 3: PROFIT?!?!????!?!?
“Rock and stone” doesn’t quite fit here does it?
So not complaining but are you planning to do more factions like this? Kinda like a refresh to the focus weeks?
thats the plan, yes! I feel like not enough changes battletome to battletome (lore-wise) very much. So this gives me a way to keep talking about it/ do updates without going insane by repeating myself for an eternity 😂
Nice I always enjoyed your faction lore vids man, I’m glad to get some more to watch!
Tried to use the affiliate link to buy something in the UK but nighthaunt all sold out. Want to help, but looks like I can't this time. Suggest getting some additional affiliate links
more aos plz
Let's say "NO!" to duardin soup! All three dwarven factions are very good, they should not be merged into one book.
Just like it's bad to remove old dwarves elves, and greenskins from Mortal Realms.
Let's say "NO!" to GW arbitrariness!
Why are the KO cool??? STEAM. PUNK. FANTASY. DWARVES.
