    10:40 Outro
I've gotten a lot of requests to cover the Google certifications so I finally decided I would go out and get it, so I could talk about it in a bit more depth, so I did!
In this video, I'm going to:
Give a brief overview of the program and my opinions on it,
Talk about a strategy that will allow you to obtain this certificate for free as well as provide some free pre-game study materials that will help you with this effort.
Talk a little bit about what you can do with the cert, and
    Brief overview of the program
So, like I said, I did go out and get this cert before making this video and this is what it looks like:
    [pic of cert]
((B-roll of the home page or something))
So google offers a bunch of certs, but this particular one in particular was developed to teach you fundamentals necessary to be able to work entry level jobs in IT. So you might be able to find jobs in this salary range.
(Check out my video on how to find entry-level remote jobs)
In my opinion, having gone through the course, it's like a really distilled down version of CompTIA A+.
It does a great job of taking the most useful things from CompTIA A+ curating study material around it.
There are basically 6 sections or "weeks" (Actually the 6th one can be completed instantly, so let's just say there are 5) (notice I didn't watch all the videos)
    Introduction to IT (Binary)
Hardware/peripherals (Learn to assemble a computer in a simulator)
Operating Systems (Log into actual virtual machines online and do stuff in them)
Basics of networking (Super basics of IP Addressing)
Software (Again, Log into some virtual machines, install, update, remove software)
    Writing documentation, super easy
Overall I would recommend this cert to people who are SUPER new to IT for a few reason
It's possible to get it for free, or at least really cheap, which is what I'll talk about next
The material is really well presented in a relatively dynamic and interactive way. It's not just reading a book and not JUST watching videos. There are little activities here and there with hands-on portions

A year ago, I did this cert along with my A+, and honestly, I had way more fun and learned a lot more from the Google IT cert. With the A+, I felt I spent more time cramming useless legacy BS than gaining any sort of practical skills. The hands-on labs in both Windows and Linux are a brilliant addition. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If this cert had a proctored final exam, it would be the best beginner cert. If they added the more practical aspects of A+ then no one could touch it as an entry-level cert.

TOTALLY agree - I have Google IT support and CompTIA A+ and studied for each of them in unison. The Google cert helped me pass the A+ cert, just because it filled in learning gaps with the A+ cert, in my opinion, especially the networking and binary math sections. Oh, and BTW, I did get the 1st module for free via finical aid, however, you have to fill out a separate finical aid request for each & every module (just a heads up), do that in advance (if possible) if you apply for finical aid.

@@doomtrooper24 You can do it in a month or so if you power through it. I thought the ENTIRE cert was pretty good. There are 5 parts that make up the Support Professional cert, the one in this video is just part one. But overall I enjoyed the command line exercises and the virtual machine tests. There is a lot of overlap with both sections of the A+ so I would do them next to each other. Coursera charges around 50 dollars a month - so if you knock it out in 30 days it isn't very costly to be able to put the word Google on your resume.

I really like Azure TBH. I would probably start with AZ-900 then just just picking an exam that either:
      a) fits your interests, or
      b) fits industry marketability.
Since you're considering to do software, you might want to look into something that covers Azure App Service/Functions etc. But yeah, just start with AZ-900 and go from there! I hope to make some more Azure videos in the future.

The courses actually provide a lot of value for someone who wants to make that transition from hobbyist to professional. Sure, you can race through the courses, but I would highly recommend to actually take your time & learn from it; very inexpensive too (something like $40 a month). There is a trade off though, it is at its core, very foundational. There's a lot of specifics that you'll need to do your own research on / etc. There's not a huge emphasis on the labs- maybe a handful throughout all of it. Personally, I feel labs are KEY- so definitely look into branching some of your own projects from the material learned.. Invest time into running VMs/etc while learning steps in whatever OS they're teaching.

These days, i have been doing a lot of research on how to kick-start. Two things comes to mind: either to do the certs first then try getting a job and then later on do a degree or do the certs simultaneously with a degree. Please what would be your advise?
Secondly, in your other video, you shared some strategies on how to obtain a BS degree for 6 months. Please will this degree be acceptable for a Masters program in a different university apart from WGU? Thanks so much bro.

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Idrisou,
Technically, you can start working well before a degree has been completed, so if you want to start working as soon as possible, I would recommend just getting a cert or two, building out your resume, and start applying for jobs--this will get you working much faster. Once you've started working, you can take your time and start working on the degree. Alternatively, if you started a degree program at WGU, got a couple certs a few months in, nothing is stopping you from just starting to apply for jobs at that point. Just do what is most comfortable for you imo :)
As far as the WGU BS being accepted at other colleges, it really depends on the college. WGU has a page that lists out graduate programs that have accepted WGU credits here, you can check that out:
      www.wgu.edu/alumni/career-support/education-and-professional-paths.html
Hope this helps! and good luck! Thanks for commenting :)

Hey Coby! I might not be the best person to ask this because I have a lot of degrees/certs/exp etc. But it probably took me like 3-4 hours to just quickly go through all the exams and stuff. I didn't many of the videos to completion, but I did do all the labs and stuff. Once I started the trial, I didn't really do anything for a couple days, then just finished it on day 3.
      Hope this helps!

I watched all the videos, took all the quizzes and read all the reading material since I’m new to IT and wanted to learn and I finished it in 2 days. I worked on it for about 12 hours each day.

Wait, I did all 5 of the google courses, in support specialization. I am currently applying for WGU. Should I not have done all 5 lol? I did 5, 6 week courses over the course of about a month. Tech fundamentals, networking, security, sys ad/infrastructure and OS

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  Před 2 lety +2

Yesh, you needed to do all 5! I made a mistake on this video and confused the fundamentals course with the pro course wgu needed lol. (check the top pinned comment). So sorry!

@@JoshMadakor Awesome. Thanks for the reply! Yeah it’s a little confusing with the 5 individual certs it generates instead of just 1 that says Google IT Support. You couldn’t be making these videos at a better time. They’ve been of great help & inspiration. Cheers Josh!

I'm confused, there is the Google IT Support Professional Certificate which takes ~6 months (Not really but that's what coursera says) then there's the first section of that cert that takes 6 weeks called Technical Support Fundamentals. I think, that you think that they are the same thing?
