      @@Der_Kleine_Mann I agree, but originally we were joking about how things often go wrong with 3D prints, either design or machine wise, meaning even if you're careful to measure twice, you still often end up doing multiple prints. And it's a play on the common saying, measure twice cut once if you didn't get it.

    I had a 2008 Opel GT, or rather the Pontiac Solstice as it was badged in the US. The gauges in my car looked a lot like yours. It was the year before they put Bluetooth on it. I really wanted the bluetooth, even though it was limited to only making and receiving calls and not capable of playing music from your phone. So I bought the 2009 steering wheel with BT controls and the BT brain box and decided I could live without the OnStar factory communications. Thanks to the OnStar, the car already had microphone and integration with the radio, I kept the original radio and it worked fine for BT, showing the phone number of whoever called me on the display! The BT box replaced the OnStar box perfectly, went right into the wiring harness behind the passenger seat, major teardown - that was fun. But worth it, it took me a couple of hours and about $250 but I could make and receive calls using the factory radio.

    I always struggle with printing things to measure. I often get outer dimensions right but rarely the inner ones. Depends heavily on slicer settings. Haven't figured it out completely yet. But good advice to print test pieces of certain parts or functions of the creation as distinct objects. Thanks for that.

    The fact that you are conscientious enough that you blurred out your keys... Bonus points! Keys can be made from pictures, therefore pictures of keys are a security risk.

    This was probably said before, but it looks like your car has a 2U space to fit a cheap android auto radio in your vehicle. If you don't have a mount, you could always 3d print one and have the USBs come up to your phone mount so you can still have your phone available and have a full android auto experience with more 3D printed parts

  • @maximthemagnificent

    Some people may want to go for a magnetic mount. I have had good luck with a medium-ish price one (did get burned by a super cheapo, though) and it simplifies the design of an attachment considerably.

    Just one thing - DO NOT USE phone for maps in car. Get a proper gps. The reason behind this is that gps drains a lot of battery and if you will connect charging, phone will heat up even more. If you really need to use it, you should place the phone in vent and put some AC on it. Great idea for 3d printer daily use :) Great work Thomas

    • @exi
      @exi Před 6 lety

      I did exactly that on my tour through the US. The mobile had 3 different apps to not get lost in desert valley and required AC to keep the battery above 80%. It lost charge despite beeing plugged in when not in the AC vents.

    • @poabeaving
      @poabeaving Před 6 lety

      That was just a reference to LinusTechTips. He kinda ran everything on his own and you just had a lot of nice content. You clicked on the video and could enjoy it until the end. Then he founded a company, hired employees and started running ads, first only one, then two; in the intro and the outro. Squarespace has been running ads on that channel since forever now. Of course, the production quality increased drastically since then, and he and his company is a massive financial success now going in the millions (most of which comes from affiliates to my knowledge), but there are no good alternatives and that is why people keep watching regardless.
      In your case, I think it is fine for now. My comment was rather ironic. I understand that you do this for a living, and why not grow the channel & hire employees; I found this video to be of superb production quality compared to your older ones. I wait for the time that you won't be in front of the camera on every video anymore :P. Mach weiter so!
