  • In this video I’ll be rebuilding a retro 1996 GT RTS 3 full suspension mountain bike.
Problems: Cracked rear frame, worn out chain, all cables corroded and frayed, brake/gear combo levers had the gear levers cut off, front wheel bearings. Some changes along the way too: Flat bar, longer stem, swap gripshift to underbar shifters, new grips, front forks

1000 annoying messages on messenger later it’s done 🤩 top job , was obviously my favourite rebuild video you’ve done to date

Haha! Worth it in the end. At least you spotted the cracks when you were cleaning it. Could have been a long walk home otherwise 🙃

      Great video!
I have this bike in blue. Had it since the 90’s. I’ve just pulled it out to freshen it up. Gears are not working. Under bar shifters not engaging and not selecting at all. Possibly a complete re wire etc and shifter overhaul 🙌🏾

Thanks man. Sometimes you can revive an old shifter by soaking it in some warm soapy water for 15 minutes or so. The grease hardens over the years when left unused. You’ll need to lube it up again after through 👍🏻

How much did it cost to get the frame fixed ?

A friend imported a rear triangle from Finland for it. It was about £80 delivered from what I remember. If you are looking to buy a used rear end make sure to ask the seller for photos of the pivots to make sure not already cracked. I think the earlier steel rear triangles might fit also. They won’t crack.. 👍🏻

How long do you repair bicycles?

I did it as a job for about 27 years. It’s just for a bit of fun now 👍🏻
