    i have a vios, and i have the exact same engine, with manual transmission(2nz-fe). Yes the engine noise is normal. That's probably the only downside of the 2NZFE engine. I've never had problems with mine, and i've been using it for 9years now. 14 kilometers per liter in city driving, and 20 km/l in the highway! Thanks Toyota~! pm me if you have questions.

    Might be the vvt solenoid. If it hesitates and kicks after 3000rpm it might need to be replaced. Replaced mine not long ago. Changed the timing chain and did a valve clearance check and still was noisy. Changed the solenoid and was like a new car

    I have a Toyota Yaris Verso 1.3 from 2000, I call her "Jam Jar". Like most things the Japanese do they balance many things to give best value for money in the case of this car it is some very odd noises. Those noises are a little disturbing at times and when you are new to the Yaris you can start to get a bit paranoid. But this car really talks to you about what it needs. It is a truly great car only one problem and that is the sills just had them welded second time this time by some very friendly Afghans who did a great job. It is so reliable in every other way and the engine is just great at 313,000km my Russian mechanic friend said its engine readings are like a new car. And very economical. I can honestly say I am not a snob about cars at all. I want something economical and reliable that gets me from A to B and can fulfill my and my families needs. This little car was planned by Japanese Zen minds. Small on Outside and a Tardis on the inside. Ever wondered why you are stuck in traffic often behind a Toyota? I am living in Finland my son has a 3 liter BMW 3 series that is mostly under the snow because it cannot be driven most of the time in snow. The humble Yaris Verso has coped with the worst weather that Southern Finland can deliver.

    It sounds like ga1999 is right. When the engine warms up, the lube gets thinner. Try thicker lube, maybe some Dura Lube with it and check the valve system. My '97 Opel has a little tick-tick and I know it's from the hydraulical things that open the valves, excuse me, but I don't know what they are called in English.

  • @hduncan2587
    @hduncan2587 Před 12 lety

    Actually it can take boost, but there would have to be upgrades. The 1.5L's weak spot is the connecting rods first. There are a few turbo NZ-FE's throughout the world, and many even raced. It's a good, light platform that some enthusiasts take advantage of.
    Of course you're right about the other stuff. Stick with N/A and bolt-ons, maybe an ECU flash, there are 1mm bigger intake/exhaust valves out there, and you can still see around 120-125hp on a 1.5L version of these. Not sure on the 1.3L.

      I agree! I replaced my PCV valve yesterday, and it reduced engine noise a good 50%!
      The best part:
      Cost $4 (pepboys)
      and
      Takes 5 mins to do.

      you should check it u can clean it with carb cleaner and using your mouth blow in the tube in both directions if it alows air to pass in only one derection its good. before buying a aftermarket pcv since ive purchased some in the past the last one for my ist / xa, did not work i was losing oil i fixed it by cleaning and istalling the old original pcv
