    Read the yaris forums. If belt only squeels on start up. Try this: turn on ignition and wait 5 seconds. Then start the car. Usually that squeel will go away and it has to do with the alternator needing a couple seconds to energize before the car starts. This works for my yaris after tightening belts. Belt dressing etc.

    Passing on a tip about the Yaris. Put the key in, and turn it to the accessories and wait for 10 seconds. Then turn the key for the ignition. Suddenly no death squeal.

    Thank You sir. Was winter here in Canada and I was reluctant to tighten the belt on my 2019 Yaris that was still under warranty. Dealership charged me $77 to do the adjustment! I should have known I was getting the shaft and looked at what was involved first...

    There's a # 14 bolt head below the alternator that needs be to loosen to allow the alternator to pivot and move freely. Don't bang on the alternator.

    It was a brilliant video and very good advice, however, after watching it I decided that the time it takes is too much this week and I will have a mechanic changr my belt for ne this time. But it is good to know it is rather easy and if I ever need to do it again, when I have less busy week, I would do it myself. Great upload, thanks

      @5:52 he loosens one bolt. Then if you use #14 wrench to loosen a second bolt that is lower down, you won't have to bang on the alternator like he did to tighten the belt (which isn't recommended)

    what if the screw is already striped or round off. so many of my friends tried to help and rounded off some of the edges. Meaning the screw is hard to turn or hard to grip to turn. Its not a BRAND NEW belt but its not damaged. it still squeaks even with the belt conditioner.

    • @stevenluevano1851
      @stevenluevano1851 Před 4 lety

      Try turning the key slowly. Turn it to just before starting it and wait about 5-10 secs. Should fix the squeal. If you turn the key fast it will squeal. Something about the alternator having too much current making the belt slip when you turn the key too fast.

    I have a mk 1 2003 yaris Pair style 1.0 engine and automatic. it is a 4 gear vehicle but i happen to notice when i drive slowly say around 30-40km/hr with same gear(cause when i press gas it either lowers or increases gear) it makes some noise. Like its struggles to continue with that speed using that gear. Only way to shut it up is to press on the pedal to lower its gear and give it speed. Noise only occurs when driving constantly slow. Is this the timing belt? It does not squeek...it rattles.

    • @vegasromaniac
      @vegasromaniac  Před rokem

      That can be a clutch slipping

    • @sa_0073

      @@vegasromaniac thanks for the reply. It only has 98,000km. But since you mentioned the clutch, is it something serious? No engine light is shown on the dashboard. I know it’s quite an old car and wouldn’t want to spend money needlessly. But I’ve only been driving for two years, since it’s my first car. I’ve grown fond of it 🥹

    I replaced my yaris belt (from your video) few years ago. I've always had a little squeal when turning the wheels, and it's worse when it's cold outside. I've neglected to figure it out because don't want to over tension belt, but maybe I should try that once more. Any tips if it's a pully or bearing going bad? Squeals while turning the wheel at low speeds. Power steering fluid is ok.

      More stress on the belt makes it slip.. Add a bit of windex on it it will stop temp rarely if so ad more pressure to the belt. What you hear it's the belt literally slipping

    • @vegasromaniac
      @vegasromaniac  Před 7 lety

      +nervouss yes, after you install them the get loose so you need to tighten them up, there is a belt tensioner tool you can test the tension, the shops never use them, but you really should, I bought one, cheap on ebay, will tall you for sure if you need it more tight. Don't go to tight or you will damage bearings on the pump. Use wonder to clean the belt will make the track a lot more grippy

    Wrong.... Toyota tech...it’s a computer issue. If you start the car slow... turn key in on position wait a few seconds it will never squeal. The computer is telling the alternator it’s a full load when you start fast.. waiting a few seconds let’s the computer send a signal to the alternator telling it to cut the load. This is FACT
