I mean Beethoven lived most of his live in Austria and Hitler renounced his Austrian citizenship in 1925. He gained his German citizenship in 1932 making him indeed German. And Beethovens father came from Austrian Brabant. So it’s not that far fetched.

Wow just returned back to Germany from visting my Dad in Austria. This brings up all kinds of childhood memories, .... mostly of angry rants of all of my austrian school friends that did an exchange in the US, the rage is real (and some rather sheltered US exchange Students of my Dad that only belived in Austria bc they were standing within the borders of said country xD gosh the stares the first time they realized we actually use buildings from the 1500s, priceless.)
As a Swede (ABBA and polar bears, not cuckoo clocks and chocolate), I can relate! My Austrian friend gave the Viennese a thumbs up.

Austrian Villain Origin Story
I lived in Austria for a few months. About a quarter of my colleagues was actually Australian, so this was a running gag we had going on. The fast food place around the corner was also run by Australians, which made it even funnier. And then to match the Australians, we had an equal amount of dutch people.
So essentially; both the dutch and Austrian instructors got continuously mistaken for Germans and the Australians got mistaken for Austrians. We had fun.
The Germans speak Dutch, so it all makes sense ;-)
