I used to play the old Quake 2,with my kids 22 years ago. Still have the old N64 console, and since last week started to play this game again. Wonderful memories. I have to admit i,m also playing Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time, and Mario 64 too... I,m 55 years old, and still a young boy.
I was just playing this level today. I bought the game when it came out and it's one of those games that are always on my PC. Quake 2 was a big deal when it came out. I was blown away when I first played it.
So many memories of playing coop on that space level. Thanks for sharing these nostalgic inducing videos!
Outlands....that map used to be on the Netdoor CTF map rotation all the way back in 2000.
Despite being unbalanced, Outlands (q2ctf4, IIRC) was super funny to play, especially on public 8x8 CTF servers.

The 4090 must have thought "i cannot tell the difference from when i'm idle at the OS, and doing this overly rudimental FPS i could render at 1997M FPS"
Actually, the 4090 was loaded by 100% with ray tracing computations.
Overall never got to play the Quake 2 RTX, haven't upgraded my graphics card in 8 years.
Not really fan of rtx version , but i like the reskin of railgun.
I'm the opposite: like the RTX version in general but hate new Railgun.
The rail gun is so puny!
Nahh, just has a tiny hit area that deals massive damage. When you manage to aim precisely, it's soooo satisfying. I sometime play Quake II just to enjoy the weapons umpf.

I'm still annoyed that gun barrels are black, why not silver?
I cant get this to work with my quake 2. I downloaded it and assumed it would connect with my quake 2 software, but it crashes every time. can anyone offer any advise for me to get it going?
Where did you download Q2RTX from? I got mine on Steam. On the first launch, it starts the setup, asking if you want to play the free shareware demo or the full game. If you chose the full game, it asks for the original Quake2 installation folder.

@@pooshrulez Actually the 3D vertex animated explosions were better. Can't they update quake 2 rtx with 3 dimensional baked explosions or something like that? Like cache it in some kind of format like OpenVDB? like in voxel type but really high density?

You know what, I still prefer 3.20 client on my retro P4 with GeForce 2 LOL
What OS do you have on that PC? The original 3.20 client was broken starting from Windows XP due to incorrect mouse filtering. That's why we had to switch to 3rd-party clients (q2xp, r1q2).
P.S. I still have P2MMX-333 with 3dfx Voodoo3 in my garage 😉
@@pooshrulez Win98 SE. I mainly use it for retrogaming (CRT monitor rules there) and Q2 mapping/modding. However, my first experience with Q2 was on a P200 MMX with Win95 and 3dfx. By the way, what was the mouse filtering problem about? I briefly played Q2 on a WinXP machine and didn't notice anything wrong.
@@Andros2709 it applied both mouse accelleration and smoothing without an option to turn them off. I was playing duel/deathmatch on a quite competitive level back then, but switching to WinXP messed up my aiming.

Quake 2 has an open-source engine. Anyone can fork it on github and make modifications.
Lol no. It is not even multi-threaded. And writing app logic for it is a pain. Avoid like the black death. Modern engines use an Entity Component System at times. Unity got one too. And Bevy is written from the ground up with ECS. ECS is by far superior to what engines like Unreal have.
My own framework can do multi threading too. But seems I can not solve the potential of threads blocking one another. However. Seems an ECS framework is immune to that. Hence me potentially moving to Bevy.
Also even Quake source ports are written in C which is at this point obsolete as a language. Rust lang is its new replacement for C++ as well.

Вкратце, Power Shield + Body Armor дают ~95% защиты, а повреждения от врагов на найтмаре такие же как и на нормале.

В Quake2 всегда можно было играть женщиной или мужчиной. Биттермэна никто не вырезал - есть он ))
