  • **Apologies for the framing on this one. It was early. I was tired lol.
    Rhinebeck is one of the largest sheep and wool festivals in the USA, held in Rhinebeck, New York. Most knitters who attend will knit a special sweater (or two, or three!) to wear while they are attending the festival. I may not be able to join this year, but I can still dream! In this video I’ve pulled a bunch of pullover and cardigan patterns that I would knit if I was to attend.

    I live in London and I fly out to do Rhinebeck every year, bundled into visiting my BFF who lives in DC. We make a Fall cabin-y road trip out of it (yes, I’m aware of how wonderfully lucky I am!) This year my Rhinebeck sweater is the Azucena pullover by Nadia Cretin-Lechenne, made out of wool I bought at the festival in 2021 🧶✨

      That's so awesome that you can combine the two trips! And I just added that pattern to my favorites, how pretty!

    Hello, I just found you and totally enjoyed your "Rhinebeck Recommendations." Thanks for including "Lately", it's a great look and I hadn't encountered it before your podcast. I'm going to Rhinebeck with my husband this year. He really enjoys the spectacle of it all, the food and the people-watching. I made sure to make 2 summer sweaters because it's almost always HOT! I have a capped sleeved Hikari by yamagara and a new silky Lovers Knot by Julieann at Twin Stitches. I'm working on a Lunenburg now -- but I would be surprised if it's cool enough to wear it this October.

    I'm not going to Rhinebeck - tooo expensive when you live in Denmark! But, it doesn't prevent me from knitting a Rhinebeck-sweater, so while I was listening to you I purchased the 'Lately' pattern! Thank you for picking out that sweater 🙂

    I'm not going to Rhinebeck but would love to go with my husband maybe once my kid is driving and can handle getting himself to school. I'm currently knitting the Soft Structure for Adults sweater by Jennifer Parroccini because I'm eager to learn some techniques to make a better fitting sweater. She uses a method where she has more stitches on the front of the sweater than the back and that is one of my biggest issues since I have a larger bust but a tiny torso/small back. I always get HUGE amounts of fabric in the back. I'm excited to see whether this pattern takes me further on my sweater journey with tips to adapt several more patterns I have in my queue. I loved the first sweater you showed, added that to my favorites!! Thanks for putting this together Amanda!!

    I am going to Rhinebeck for the first time. I have 3 outfits. Pressed Flowers cardigan over the Classic LBD, Bridgerton by Unwind Knitwear, and Field Day Cardigan over MoonSet Tee. The last two aren’t quite done. Can’t wait!

    I thought was subscribed but checked when you mentioned it and I wasn’t so I did do that :)
    Not going to Rhinebeck but if I was I’d try to knit a pattern I purchased already but never knit so either the Magnolia Bloom or Whiskey Neat

    I'm going to Rhinebeck for the first time this year! I have to projects (assuming they're finished on time lol) a Cozy Classic Raglan that I'm doing a friend/matching knit and a Tessellated Vest. I love some of your choices and will definitely be adding the Community Cozy and the Boulevardier to my to be knit list. =)

    Thea Coleman is one of my absolute favourite designers. I have knit, and absolutely love, the Oban cardigan and her hats are my go-tos for gift knits. Her aesthetic matches Cape Breton where I live. These are all beautiful sweaters.

    I personally think a dropped shoulder doesn´t fit me or most of us with not the thinnest upper arms. I feel the seem highlights the broadest spot. I try not to wear or knit garments with a dropped shoulder but it is very hard because so many of the newer patterns nowadays are featuring that.😏

    I loved your video- lots that I’d also love to knit! not going to Rhinebeck this year so knitting vicariously ❤ I tested the community cozy and can attest, it’s the bougie sweatshirt of your dreams 😂 the seaming is totally worth it and it calls for unspun yarn so is an absolute cloud!

    • @birchandlily
      @birchandlily  Před 9 měsíci

      I've never knit with unspun, what did you think? I think it's worth a try if the garment calls for it

    • @hundredyearhouse
      @hundredyearhouse Před 9 měsíci

      @@birchandlily I really liked it! It was my first time and a bit of a learning curve because the yarn will break if you’re not careful (me). Thankfully it’s super easy to spit splice! I had to slow down a little at first but got used to it and LOVE the finished product. Will definitely knit more unspun in the future!

    Hi I did knit the 3 season cardi. The gauge is given for the swatch that is made in pattern. 68 stitches of cabled pattern should have the width of 16.25 “. It is slightly complicated gauge instruction, but so worth knitting as it is really fun and fast. Knitted on is 8.
    Instant crush is my next to knit sweater 🥰

    • @birchandlily
      @birchandlily  Před 9 měsíci

      Thank you! That makes total sense, it can be so hard to swatch when there are cables involved!
      Can't wait to hear about your Instant Crush!

    Great suggestions! I am going to Rhinebeck for the 1st time. Going with a group of friends and we're all wearing the Drawing sweater, which looks a bit like the 1st colorwork sweater you featured! It took me several months to make 😂😂😂 but I am proud of it and I like it!

    Thank you for an inspiring episode🥰 I finished the Instant crush sweater last week. And it was such a fun knit and I love my sweater. It is really light (and extremly warm😅 "luckily I live in Norway where we get cold winters😁). The keep it warm sweater is definitely going on my knitlist😍

  • @beepbopboop3221
    @beepbopboop3221 Před 9 měsíci

    I have a question about the drawing sweater. I bought it. I'm using knit picks recycled alpacq/wool/accrylic, but the 2 colors are not the same thickness. I haven't done colorwork garments for myself before, so I'm not sure if I should try a different yarn until I have more experience. Or try swtmatching with holding a lace weight in the same color of the slightly thinner one.

    • @birchandlily
      @birchandlily  Před 9 měsíci

      Honestly I would just swatch it as is and try. If you hit gauge and you like the fabric who cares if they’re not exactly the same weight!

    • @beepbopboop3221
      @beepbopboop3221 Před 9 měsíci

      @birchandlily that's what I'm saying. I don't like the colorwork. On their own, it's ok because I can change needles. The colorwork is more obvious that one is thinner than the other.

    • @birchandlily
      @birchandlily  Před 9 měsíci

      @@beepbopboop3221 Ahh okay! Yeah if you have some lace weight on hand you could try that. You might find it slightly confusing having the three balls of yarn going if it's your first colorwork project though.
      Otherwise I think if you don't have any in your stash just go for two yarns that are the same weight.

    • @beepbopboop3221
      @beepbopboop3221 Před 9 měsíci

      @birchandlily I've done stripes, which are the same annoying twisted balls of yarn. I have done stranded color on small things, just not a sweater. I'm more worried about fit if my tension isn't consistent over the duration of the project. Since its more alpaca than wool. It's not got much memory. I'll keep pondering while I finish my socks! I'll do more swatching to see what will block best. I think Im going to have 3 needle sizes. With the alpaca, I'm tempted to make it a poncho. Then I won't need to worry about fit past the shoulders! The accrylic content is making this an outside layer anyway. Mild winters (zone 7 on the coast) mean that accrylic is just too hot and unbreathable for 11 months out of the year. That 12th month will only have a week of really cold temps.

    • @birchandlily
      @birchandlily  Před 9 měsíci

      @@beepbopboop3221 make sure you measure your swatch before and after you block! Then you can figure out how much your garment will grow.
      But yes, usually people say non superwash is best for colorwork because it almost sticks to the stitches around it. I haven’t had any issues with a merino superwash before, but I honestly haven’t used much other than that so I’m not 100% sure.
      Alpaca is soooo warm!

    I wouldn't consider worsted as chunky 😂.

    • @birchandlily
      @birchandlily  Před 9 měsíci

      When you knit with mostly fingering - DK (like me lol) it sure feels that way! haha. Something about worsted weight just makes the whole cable squishy.

    • @beepbopboop3221
      @beepbopboop3221 Před 9 měsíci

      @birchandlily I knit lace weight through heavy worsted. Lace weight single is a little too small for me, but I wanted to try thinner socks. Heavy worsted, I agree, is a little too big for me. I use patons "worsted" for my dog's bandanas. He is a short haired dog and gets chilly, but he's a big dog, so he doesn't need a whole sweater. Worsted is my go-to for winter sweaters. I love fingering, but it takes a long time to finish those summer knits! I end up sewing summer clothes!
