  • In this Episode, we will take a brief look at the Alinco DJ-VX50 and test it's ability to stay in the water for 25 minutes.
    Some concerns I've had about this radio:
    1. No Programming Software
    2. A weird gas emitting from the radio (see the video when the radio is underwater)
    3.Where is the radio made
    We will be investigating these issue in the next few episodes, please enjoy the video and let me know if you have any information!

    Hey dude. I just got my Alinco DJ VX50 yesterday and so far, Im satisfied with it's rx and tx. Personally, I don't mind having no programming software because i was able to did all my seetings thru the front keypad, and unlike other brands like baofeng, u can actually set channel name.

    Thanks for this, looking for a radio and thinking about this one (spend time out doors) or the Yeasu FT-4xr.

      I was thinking about this for a day or two. What radio do I think would be better. Here's what my mind has been discussing (I may be able to do a comparison video in the future).
      1. The FT4X is now 100.00$ dollars, a dramatic increase in price from when I originally purchased it. It is dual band, but only single display and NOT IP67 rated. Although, it feels pretty good in the hands and feels like it is pretty durable. 2. The FT4X has FM radio but lacks Air Band
      3. The FT4X is now allegedly made in Japan. I have not confirmed this personally.
      The DJVX50T
      1. Is IP67 rated and does a good job of doing so
      2. Has a nice LCD which can change colors if needed.
      3. Has dual display
      4. Appears rugged
      5. The battery rating on my preliminary tests show the rating to be more like 1720-1750 mAh, and not the 1800 advertised. Not a huge difference and I need to do further testing to confirm this.
      6. Walkthroughs and support may be a little more difficult with Alinco. When I was filming these videos, there was a 2 day period where their website domain was expired or something. Hopefully I can rectify this by getting my programming tutorial up
      Overall, if it was me, in an outdoor situation, I would be happiest with the alinco djvx50t.
      In the future, if i can compare the radios, I will test the battery life of both of them, side by side.
      Good Luck! Hopefully you enjoy whichever radio you decide on!

      @@HAMRADIODUDE would love to see comparison with Yaesu FT-65 - considering byuing my first HAM handheld and cant decide between them. Love the channel selector knob on Alinco, and IP67 rating would be nice, but am really worried about that smoke and corrosion - little doubtful if it is even watterproof. Heard some complains about inaccurate CTCSS codes too. Lack of good programming software and CHIRP support is also not ideal, but not deal breaker for me. Do you like/use this radio after few months?

    • @HAMRADIODUDE

      @@freezersk this is still my daily use. The corrosion will happen on all weatherproof radios, still charges. I'm not sure still what the gas was, but this radio has absolutely no problems from the water and is my favorite performer/daily carrier. Nice and loud too!

    I have the Alinco dj-md5tgp and its made by Anytone for Alinco. Since its a "Chinese radio" it will tx out of band, will the vx50 tx on murs and gmrs? Also will it do an odd split 1.035? If so I might get one and ditch the pos yaesu ft-65r.

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  Před 3 lety +2

      The offset is capable of 1.035 as I tested with it this morning. I'll do a shot in my next alinco episode so you can see. As far as extended transmit, it's locked down and online searches suggest a software is needed called DJ-VX50SetBand-V1.01, which I have yet to find. I'll be doing a full series on this radio and will try to go into detail about it all and hopefully find that software

  • @theselector2310
    @theselector2310 Před 3 lety +3

    The DJ-VX50 Is a really well-made radio that sounds good too. The problem is software support. The best thing they could do for this radio is to make it CHIRP compatible.
    I have seen complaints also about the lack of an 8.33 khz spacing on the air band too.
    The programming software that Alinco made for the radio is not very flexible and it is hard to import data from other data sources. Other than these criticisms it seems to be a very very well-made radio. It is certainly way above the Chinese Baoefing radio line in quality.
