The Surprisingly Strict Rule In-N-Out Male Employees Must Follow

  • Every fast food chain has a dress code that employees have to abide by, but In-N-Out's seems to be particularly strict. Walk into any location, and you'll see employees wearing almost exactly the same thing as they whip up your Double-Double. There are actually nine distinct pieces of the uniform outlined in the employee handbook: name tag, black shoes, belt, red apron and pin, hat, white shirt, pants, and socks.
    Depending on an employee's gender, there are also a few other requirements for what they must wear while on the clock. Here's the surprisingly strict rule In-N-Out's male employees must follow.

      For 8 bucks at a fast food joint the fact you had any expectations is hilarious and the fact you complained is even funnier. Simply cut your losses and move on. Your complaining about 8 bucks worth of food being completely wrong is what is wrong with this country. It’s just 8 bucks and if you don’t have the means to spend it then you learned a lesson in not spending what you can’t afford. If it’s on principle then your lack of focus and importance in life is really lacking. People who complain about poor service at fast food at restaurants are not normally reliable because they usually complain about everything if they are willing to complain about 8 bucks and waiting too long to the point of being given 20 bucks! Stop eating fast food period and invest 8 bucks in to your life next time.

    When I worked at #6 in the early 1970’s they only hired guys. But they were true drive ins and a lot of heavy lifting was involved. They supplied the hat, shirt, pants, name tag (we used to put them on top of the dash in our cars to let any police know where we worked if stopped. They got 1/2 price food).and apron. All we had to get was the giant safety pin to hold up the white apron.

    I was gonna have an issue with this until you started listing all of the benefits that the employees have. At least the company is taking care of their employees, and paying them prett well, as they should. Most fast food chains don’t even do half of the stuff that In-N-Out is doing for their employees. Hell, a lot of them don’t even give you a free meal. They might give you a discount as an employee, but never an entirely free meal. You would think that a free meal is nothing to them, but I guess it is lol. The fact that they have a 401K and stuff for them is great.

    • @pancakeviking5321
      @pancakeviking5321 Před 2 lety +4

      It is because IN-N-OUT is a privately owned operation and opens very few locations, funds can be relocated to other locations. In chains, that is not the case, the chain is independently owned by the chain owner, who generally has to keep food costs under 30% of the income of the store, and labor costs under 30% of the store so that they can pay rent to the chain and their monthly franchise fee. Around 80% of funds are used in the chain for it to function and stay open, leaving 10%-15% to go towards a repair fund. The owner of the chain normally is only able to walk away with 5% of the chain's income, which is incredibly low for almost any business and normally equates to around $100,000 to $150,000 a year.

Honestly any normal employee that works at these types of places never say a word about the "benefits" because at the end of the day most people don't even get them. I for one cannot afford the "benefits" that are offered to me, *even at the managerial level* , because I can't afford the 400+ dollars that those said "benefits" take out to cover for them on top of my rent and other utility bills, they're not fully covered perks.
      You have that condescending Manager tone to your words, "Prospective employees can always go down the road to the next burger hub and get [ far less ] and keep their individual [trappings]", I'll be 100% honest with you, nobody likes it when you regard them as second class citizens just because they have some issues with a strict dress code. It isn't that serious. It's fast food, not a fine dining restaurant.
      That's the issue with managers these days and why everybody is calling it quits in this industry, they're overzealous over the smallest of things and act like they're better than you because they're the head cheap chili fry maker. Overworked and underpaid, but the managers will always try to make it seem like there is no place better for you than there because of the "Great perks and benefits".

      Pretty sure the reason for this is because In and Out hires those who are just working part time while going to school/college.
      The workers don’t go there with the intent on permanent employment. They are all happy. The service is excellent.
      When dealing with most other places yes many times there is an older group and often times they don’t look happy. Service is often sub par.

    I was in the Sparks Nevada restaurant and ordered a protein style double double. I lifted it up to take a bite and there was a shiny blond hair from one side to the other, like a rainbow. I took it to the counter and the nice young man quickly ordered me another burger. With their hair so tight in those hats I was surprised to see this. I still love In N Out.

    Tattoos are allowed but they have to be completely covered. My roommate/coworker has arm tattoos and she has to wear a sleeve to cover them.
    Another thing that wasn't mentioned is that male associates were not allowed to wear earrings, only the women. But about a month ago they changed that rule so I'm glad they're modernizing a little

    The customer service experience at In & Out and also at Chic Filet are the best in the industry. They also have very high rankings from their employees. They're also paid very well.
    Could the conservative ethics of the ownership have anything to do with the results?
