    I'm a 26 years old HEMA instructor and sword performer from Poland. I've been fencing since I was 12, evolving through sport fencing, polish saber, kenjutsu, to finally settle on renaissance german longsword (go Team Meyer!).
    I do blacksmithing for a living. Feel free to review my crafts at:

    Now go throw some cuts!

    Notice the consistent and precise edge alignment in the demonstration, impressive stuff.

    • @elmohead
      @elmohead Před 7 lety

      The aerodynamics of the blade helps with edge alignment. You wouldn't be able to do it with a straight blade.

    • @TheSwordsPathChannel
      @TheSwordsPathChannel  Před 7 lety +9

      Of course you would, longsword cuts in Meyer work the same way. Aerodynamics do have a minor impact on this, but nowhere near as much as the grip and general cutting technique.

    • @BekoPharm
      @BekoPharm Před 7 lety +1

      One doesn't even have to turn the edge on a straight blade when changing direction rapidly. Just saying. Feels odd and may not generate as much power but it can still be done.
      I was also impressed by that edhe alignment though. Something you won't see a lot when people don't also do cutting or shadow fencing.

      Paweł Andonis Gawralidis Dobrzański herbu Leliwa. Only if you make a deal with a genie known as Gaunter O' Dimm. However, I wouldn't recommend it as it will likely damage your life severely in the end.

    Man I'm still confused when it comes to polish sabre. On the one side Sieniawski & Sons have beautiful presentation, but in the same time they have shown very little of sources they use. Moreover their interpretation is contradictory to sources I know.
    On the other hand there is Jurek Miklaszewski who shares most of the sources he uses, yet I have doubts when it comes to his trining methods(maybe this doubts are unfunded?) and I feel like Jurek lacks proper critical approach when it comes to certain sources(again, personal opinion).
    Finally there is Richard Marsden who has clearly superior HEMA experience, good training methods and he treats sources with proper criticism. Yet, he is a bit too conservative and he didn't use all sources available which definitely affected his interpretation.
    Damn it is hard to find satisfactory interpretation of polish sabre...
    P.S. Oglądałeś mecz?

    Perfect as usual, Alan. When I experinced this fight for the first time, my first thought was 'It'd be damn fine if Haart commented on this one' and here it comes! I am patienly waitning for more :) And I'd like to say, love the way that video is designed to bring resemblance to withcer's 'story time' scenes :) Great job.

    Assassin's Creed involves swords, too. It may not be as beautiful as that in Witcher Series. But it seems counterattack in Assassin's Creed is way more efficient than that in Witcher Series. Maybe you can shoot some videos about swords skills in Assassin's Creed 2.

    It seems the only major difference I could see in the game was that Olgeird raised his left hand as he swung the saber, whereas in the instructional triple cut part it specifically said to keep the left hand low so it doesn't interrupt the swings. Overall it looks very cool either way

    • @Robin0Blackett
      @Robin0Blackett Před 7 lety +6

      You could say Olgierd did it deliberately to obscure Geralt's vision of him a bit and throw the witcher off balance, expecting a grappling technique or something. Or maybe it's just that just because. :D

    Hello !
    I really like your videos they are funny and very intuitive. I've been watching HEMA related content and I am really starting to like it.I was wondering how much would it cost and what equipment should a beginner get.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @cadethumann8605
      @cadethumann8605 Před 7 lety +1

      ydg dgnbydfgn While it is not exactly a perfect replication of HEMA or swordsmanship in general, it doesn't hurt much to start off lightly with sturdy foam swords (not the cheap kiddy ones where they flop around with little structure. Ones where they have a strong plastic rod in the middle with it covered by padding). Unless if they hit a nerve, they inflict little harm aside from the initial impact and thus don't require armor to avoid getting hurt (unless if you want protection for your sensitive nerves if your sparring partner is not being careful).

    • @TheSwordsPathChannel
      @TheSwordsPathChannel  Před 7 lety

      That's a pretty good suggestion. Foam wasters can be a lot of fun, and are a great tool for learning the basics of distance and timing!

      Thank you both very much.Now the only thing is to get one and find a HEMA school near me :D
      I live in Bosnia so I am not exactly sure that there is a HEMA school I think the closest is in Slovenia.
      Could you recommend some books that cover the basic techniques ? That would be the second best thing if there isn't a school here.

    • @kamilszadkowski8864
      @kamilszadkowski8864 Před 7 lety +2

      Nie ma czegoś takiego jak miecz półtoraręczny. To jest termin ukuty w XX wieku przez kolekcjonerów nie mający nic wspólnego z poprawną terminologią opartą na źródłach. Mówiąc krótko, Geralt używa Miecza Długiego.

    • @marcinkaminski4693
      @marcinkaminski4693 Před 7 lety

      Kamil Szadkowski miecz długi czy to inaczej nie jest 2 ręczny który sięga do mostka? Natomiast półtorak sięga bodajże do brzucha i Geralt widać ze nie nosi 2 ręcznego a uchwyt ma na 2 ręce jednak może używać miecza podczas jazdy konnej i korzystać z jednej ręki czyli ten miecz jest połączeniem miecza długiego 2 ręcznego oraz miecza krótkiego jednoręcznego

    • @kamilszadkowski8864
      @kamilszadkowski8864 Před 7 lety +2

      Ech... klasyfikacja mieczy wygląda tak: miecz(jednoręczny) - miecz długi - miecz dwuręczny.
      Co do wymiarów to mylisz się całkowicie. Miecze jednoręczne zwykle miewają długość sięgającą metra. Miecze długie mają długość sięgającą 140 cm i z zasady są używane dwuręcznie za wyjątkiem walki z konia. I wreszcie mamy miecze dwuręczne które są wymysłem raczej renesansowym niż średniowiecznym i te często przekraczają długość 2 metrów więc nie raz są "wyższe" od użytkownika.

    • @paweandonisgawralidisdobrz2522
      @paweandonisgawralidisdobrz2522 Před 7 lety +5

      Największa różnica między mieczem dwuręcznym a półtoraręcznym:
      Gdybyś zapytał rycerza średniowiecznego co to miecz długi, to pokazałby miecz o rękojeści z miejscem na obie ręce nadającym się do walki i pojedynków pieszych.
      A gdybyś zapytał co to półtoraręczny, to najpewniej by odpowiedział: "czy ty nazwałeś mnie kaleką?" I wyzwał na pojedynek.
