@黃先伯 i agree, RX10M4 @600mm is about the same as P1000 @1000mm. I think the RX10M4 is close in capturing the same amount of details @600mm vs P1000 @2000mm, but lacks the amount of pixels to crop that far in.

@@ElectromaticG5120 I would definitely pick the Sony RX10 IV. In my opinion the most convenient camera. But for low light I would choose a APS-C or Full Frame camera. Perhaps the Sony a7 III.

That zoom on the Nikon is simply amazing. I'd like to have both cameras, but if I had to pick one, I'd pick the Sony. That 1" sensor just gives you so much more versatility.
@Red Line better image quality, better dynamic range, better ISO performance and some better shallower DoF
The Sony just produces so much better images. I use the Nikon at work and have the Sony personally. I would love it if the Sony had a better Zoom but not at the cost of any of its other features.
The point of these cameras is the zoom! If you need high quality photos them both of these will disappoint since they’re not gonna be better than a decent cellphone camera. You’ll need a DSLR for image quality
@@henryforo3566 That is complete bullshit. I’m a working Pro and use FF for my daily work. I use 1“ cameras for all my travel stuff and also for work, after I saw how good the quality really is.
I tested the RX10IV some days ago and this camera has such a good lens, you wouldn’t belive it is even possible to build something like this. It’s sharp from wide to tele, it has a good micro contrast and a surprisingly good bokeh.
The ISO performance is far better than most people would think. At base ISO these files are better than mFT sensors and as we know have AI noisereduction in Lightroom, I don’t have to think about high ISOs. These 1“ sensors deliver. And if you think they’re not good, it’s probably YOU who is the bigger problem. But you’re talking DSLRs and cellphones, so you might live under a rock for the last 20 years.

Thanks for this review it's exactly what I've been looking for. I'm still torn between which one I prefer. The photographer in me prefers the Sony because of the sensor and faster lens but that zoom on the Nikon opens up a whole new level of fun!
Do I really need a 3000x zoom "No"
Do I want a 3000x zoom "Yes!"
The image purist in me still says Sony though!
I have the sony and love it. You can do allot more with the raw files and the lens is sharper. The nikon has allot of novelty and little flexibility in post. If you do not edit your photos after you shoot them and don't crop images allot the nikon would be the winner. If you don't mind editing and want the sharpest images go with the sony.
Just ordered the Sony! ;-)

At ISO 12800 the photo quality is still considered high by Sony. If only we could have both quality and zoom together, that would be a super awesome camera.
If you need the same zoom on a 1 inch sensor, the barrel will extend to 1m.
for zoom, Nikon wins hands down... for clarity at low lite Sony best by far... both are brill but I would choose the Nikon over the Sony... great video!
It is great that you zoomed the Nikon P1000 up to 3000mm (125x), but you should also have zoomed the camera to its equivalent of the Sony so that we can see how both cameras perform at their equivalent zoom settings in terms of image quality and image stabilization. Take, for example, the Windmill blades, was it necessary to have only zoomed up to the tip or base of the blade with the Nikon? Why not back up the zoom a little bit so as to see how the Nikon compared with the Sony. The further out you go or the greater you zoom in on an object while hand holding the camera, the more movement you will get.
@John Nelson indeed
When looks into zoom character, people always interested in zoom.
To value on picture quality , one might take it in other shots feature.
yeah but the test does show the usefulness or not of OIS ar ultradistance
Naa this test is just for the Zoom comparison mainly. Showing how much closer you can get with the Nikon. A full camera test would probably show the Sony better with video and the Nikon better with stills. That's been my experience anyway.

That squirrel thought he was safe 😂
So the Sony is good for actually taking pictures, and the Nikon is a great stalker camera
The Nikon is mainly a birding camera, the Sony for other bigger wildlife and landscape. The Nikon sensor is made by Sony.
@@L.V-Rider "The Nikon sensor is made by Sony" nope. Nikon design all of their sensors.
Yes, Nikon design some of their own sensors, but, sorry to burst your bubble. There is a difference between "design" and "make" (manufacture). Sony do manufacture sensors for Nikon and other well known brands. Do some searching before arguing.
This is a older list with some Nikon cameras sensor listed, not all and not the "P" range. But you can think that if Nikon is manufacturing so little of their own sensors, that many of the others not listed is manufactured elsewhere. The P900 sensor is manufactured by Sony and the P1000 is using the same sensor.

@@misterpimlott6330 nope. Sony only does the manufacturering.
It all depends on your needs and priorities. I love the squirrel shot, and if that was on the Nikon, I would be MORE than happy :). I have moved on from my previous 25x zoom camera, and the 65x zoom of the latest one often comes into it's own when birding. So yes, I am envious of the 125x zoom of the Nikon for my needs, as I am sometimes quite flat out on 65x to see the detail I need for a shot. Don't forget the weight of the Nikon though, no good if you would rather leave your heavy camera in the car than carry it everywhere.
I wanted to buy a bridge camera and waited over a year for the P1000 to come out. I checked it out, didn't like the build quality. Past the zooming abilities, it was no comparison to the Sony RX10 IV. I bought the Sony, but I have to admit that P1000 zoom is impressive, spies & PI's should love it.
Agreed but for spy project always remember - no CIA agent using Nikon Coolpix P1000 for espionage projects should forget to mount it on a tripod. Otherwise it will be impossible to hold it for longer than 7 to 9 minutes and then you have to wait for a few hours for your hands to rest. Excellent camera!
The US governement must have sonething more advanced,i mean they are putting 700 billion in the army
Guys
This video is demonstrating the "battle of superzoom" not the "battle of super quality".
So if he was comparing the quality he would've definitely used some other model of Nikon against Sony.
So this comparison is very clear and well defined.
And yes if some can compromise with quality for zooming power then the choice is Nikon and if we prefer quality over zooming power the there are many other cameras for beautiful results.
Thanks for this nice video.
Thanks
Really great review with proof and action and comparing two great cameras - unlike all others that talk your ears off and no real data
Thank you for making this video. Great comparison video.

Sony said “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” lol
Nikkon P1000 is absolutely amazing in all aspects. Great video. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much for doing all the work on our behalf...... I now know my choice!!
Glad to hear that
What was your choice
I own both cameras. They both are great for what they are designed to do. The zoom range on the Nikon wins. But at this present time there is no camera anywhere that is as versatile and capable as the Sony RX10 IV. And there are only a handful of cameras that can match the lightning fast focus of the RX10 IV camera.
The Sony camera is amazing, and most people don’t even know that these two cameras are using a leaf shutter. With respect to speedlights, the leaf shutter destroys all interchangeable lens cameras that use focal plane shutters because the flash can be synced to any shutter speed the photographer needs without flash sync restrictions.
Can you use one of the lens adjustable rings to zoom the lens as well? Or only the zoom knob? I have several camera gear. But still own an older Fuji X-S1 24-624mm. That lens has full manual zoom and works so fine. Although the camera is outdated in many aspects nowadays. But still a great camera to have always in your car orzo. The RX10IV is tempting for shooting sailing yachts competition when on a RIB. No need to chance lenses and shooting is during daylight most of the time.
@@D Larson Thanks!

Thank you 😊
I really enjoyed this video. As someone else said, you actually get to the point of why we came here. Don't need the endless talk, sponsored links etc etc.
Would you recommend a camera with around 30x zoom at half the price of these?
The low light superiority of the Sony is huge better than the Nikon, but for over all super zoom to capture close up detailed far away images I believe the Nikon wins hands down!! If your going for all around average good camera that does everything well and need better image stabilization and super fast auto focus and clean night shots and clean day shots then it's hands down the Sony RX10 IV, the Nikon for it's price cheaper than Sony and being a bridge camera for now does the best job for getting clean shots of wildlife being well lighted that is!! Photographers getting good shots having a tripod is advisable P1000, it's auto focus struggles P1000, so have to have a tripod for better shots! The only other cameras for super close wildlife action shots far away super super clean are going to be DSLR's like a Nikon D500 and thats getting into $2000 and $3000 dollar price range!!!
Photography is like Surgery. No single instrument needs to be compared with one designed for a different purpose.
The Nikon is a superb superzoom tool. I will definitely add this to my "videographer toolkit."
If you really need all the other features provided by the best professional cams, then use those cams...and stop complaining. Surgeons don't complain that a scalpel doesn't work as well as forceps for a breech delivery.
comparing camera with surgery tools is stupid analogy, you need very good grades to be a surgeon. you need high accuracy tools and good skills otherwise you ended up killing patients. having bad camera or poor skill wont kill people but you still can have better picture if you learn Photoshop.
I see what you're saying and agree.
This is for people buying one or the other. One camera..... why would you need 3 cameras? I have a phone for back up.... these are not professional. I hope u dont buy 200 consumers cameras for work..... or do you ?

You put a lot of time into this. Thank you for that. I see the P1000 has a lot of color noise and not quite as good as the sony especially for night shots. Stabilization + Zoom better on Nikon.

The laws of physics do not allow that, sadly.

There is no battle between those cameras. The Sony RX10 IV AF performance is just out of this world. The Nikon P1000 with his small sensor is just a toy to play for some documentary projects. No image quality with a lot of noise on the pictures. I returned the camera a year ago after 1 week playing :) Good Luck!

@@robertkelsey812 I think he means the ISO noise reduction.

My first of super zoom cameras was a Panasonic FZ200 with a 1/2.3 inch sensor and I must say super sharp at 600 mm the only problem was excellent photography AS LONG THERE WAS GOOD LIGHT. Today I have a Sony RX10 III and not to mention I had the RX10 II before and now the RX10 IV ( I can't catch up ) there will be newer model coming out just about every week. Bigger sensor is better
The P1000 still has a slow buffer. When photographing in both NRW and JPEG, after taking each photo, I have to wait for 5 seconds before I can zoom or playback. This really is problematic for shooting something moving from far to close.
@@sem_skywalker It's not really about JPEG it's the larger raw files making it slow. This sucks
Great and informative video. It is quite clear that the Nikon P1000 owns the zoom master championship. The Sony is the overall better camera if one is looking for the 'Jack of all trades' bridge camera. If one is seriously looking for telephoto prowess and power, go with the Nikon P1000. Other than that, outside of of an advanced/pro DSLR, go with the Sony RX10 IV.
Teleskope better for zoom
I own Nikon p900 since 3 years. Did some serious astrophotography including hand-held ISS shots and took lots of solar and lunar images. Took many amazing terrestrial shots too. Funny thing is, quality of images coming out of p900 is better than my APSC sized mirrorless DSLR Fuji X-t2 with usd 2000 dollars worth 100-400mm lens. And even funnier, images of p900 is sometimes better than my X-t2 connected to my 8" telescope! p900 costs usd 600 and is ultra compact. X-t2 with 100-400mm lens costs usd 3500 and is bulky. x-t2 with 8" telescope costs usd 4500 and weights 30kgs. Those who say p900 or p1000 is a toy either do not know how to use it or are just prejudgemental.
❤ Yesss. That's it. Period.
I have both, Sony is better quality all way around except the zoom.. It's my go to 4K video recorder, also 120 fps full HD with sound
I guess having the larger sensor proves to be an advantage too, that and having wider aperture at the long end.
Super 8 vs 35mm ...
Watched the 2nd time on a 1080 40" screen.
The old "high" speed film stock (even more so pushed) had visible grain, now we have "noise" and sensor size matters. Side by side, we can see how much it matters. Pick the right tool for the job. Thank you for showing, and not "telling".
Wow. Thank you so much for this great video. You did the best you could. Without much talk. Thanks again

The Nikon is perfect for spying on my beautiful neighbor
How far away does your neighbour live??

@@robertfrost8531 looooooooo
A Nikon p1000 is a bit of an overkill to spy on a neighbor
I’d def buy the Nikon if they updated it with a better sensor. It has amazing zoom but the image quality is subpar. A bigger sensor would allow for more digital zoom also.
A S - if the Nikon had the 1” sensor in it with that much zoom, it would extend to a metre and you’d need to carry it in a wheelbarrow!
The long zoom is only possible because of the small sensor, with a crop factor of 5.6. That is just physics at work, or I would wish for unicorns. I have a Nikon P900 for fun zoom and a mirrorless Canon for stodgy image quality. I cannot have both.
It is amazing what Japanese technology pushes to. Years later and they are still amazing.
That Lowlight comparison made me change my mind about the p1000.
I hope to be owning one of each of these soon (upgrading from a RX 10 MK2) and a GH5s and a GH5.. (doing some upgrading) Love how the SONY is way above the P1000 in low light quality. But the ZOOM cannot be beat. And I wanna use that for Broll shots for some shoots. will be fun..
Are you using the old ones? hahahahahahahahahahah
Thanks for uploading, seems like a fair comparison. I recently got the Sony Rx 10, love it. Keep my Sony Hx400v as backup.
The Nikon's zoom is crazy and seems very clear.
Would love to get my hands on RX10 one day but it is still expensive, and has no sign of price reduction, in my local at least.
I'm bias, only because I own a P900 and P1000 but the point and shoot zoom on the P1000 is amazing , jets up in the Jetstream on video with full zoom clear as clear.
This was a pretty good comparison video and it confirmed my assumption that the Nikon has an impressive amount of zoom, but the Sony has the better image quality. For a fair test I would have liked to see you zooming in to the same amount when comparing stabilization, rather than zooming in to the most that the Nikon can do, past the range of the Sony
For a fair test you should compare stills in all the focal range of the two cameras even if that means that after the 600mm you have to start cropping. I guess that till 600mm because of the bigger sensor Sony wins and from there till 3000mm the P1000 has better image quality. Because of the cropping. That is the big advantage for me of the P1000. It gives you so much freedom! Decent photos in the range that most cameras operates and much better in bigger focal lengths! The only restrictions it has is in dark places and night wildlife photography. But in every other sector it covers you very well.
real world testing should not be done on a tripod. hand held would be better as superzooms are only as useful as their stabilisation. also you should compare stills.
Great video, you did put a lot of effort into making it, thumbs up.

These cameras have reached such a level of sophistication that new and improved models have almost stopped coming out. Either that or the market for new cameras has dried up due to smartphones.
I have this camera. I hope the neighbors don't have it! I was able to record Mercury transit!
That awkward moment when you and your neighbor both have it and you are zooming in into each other xD
The video is about two different cameras. "I have this camera" is not clear
My vote is for Nikon for sure coz no compromise on zoom & quality 🥰😍
I noticed that the Nikon Shakes when zooming in, and that's on a tripod. I wish it didn't because the zoom is amazing on the nikon.
Wouldn't trade my Canon Eos 90D for any of these. I own a Sigma 150-600 mm which is like a 240-960 mm. For even more reach I have extenders, but I very rarely use them. The Nikon 3000 mm equivalent lens is impressive, and sharper than I'd have expected.
I also own a Sony HX400V with a 24-1200 equivalent zoom, but that's no good at distances above maybe 25 m, no doubt due to the very small front lens element. Still, for nearby birds it's fine. And it cost a fraction of these cameras.

лучше один раз увидеть чем сто раз услышать. плюс за видео.
I pick the Sony. More detail at the same lengths, better stabilization, better low light capability.
I prefer the Sony too. I choose the Nikon just when I need this extra zoom.
The picture quality is better on the Nikon as the Nikon has a better optical lens. The low light performance on the Sony is better.
The grass looks much sharper with better image quality on the Nikon than the Sony. The image stabilizer is better on the Nikon for me as it is smoother. And of course, the Nikon has a much stronger Zoom lens.
So overall I pick the Nikon. But if you want a smaller zoom camera and better low light camera, then the Sony has a larger image sensor which gives you better low light image quality.
Anyone getting the Nikon P1000 will be getting it for its zoom capabilities and not its low light image quality. For low light, I would also own another camera, something like the Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera.
Overall, the Nikon and Sony are both good cameras.
@@ibdaramy5455Sony looks far better, just a better camera all round. Nikon only has the extra zoom, that's really it.

Thank you for the review. Awesome zoom from Nikon but bad quality for indoor and night time use. I wish they at least use a better sensor. Doesn't have to be like RXIV sensor but better than the old useless sensor.
by "better" you mean bigger. all small sensor cameras, like the one you find in the p1000, will struggle in low light situations. the biggest selling point of the Nikon is the amount of range you get in a comparatively portable and inexpensive package (when compared to a dlsr w/ a bulky telephoto lens or the Sony which costs twice as much). so if you shoot mostly during daytime and looking for a relatively portable camera with unbeatable zoom, then P1000 is pretty much the only option today that will meet that requirement. for low light you'd want a true dslr (crop) with a decent lens or two, it will easily outperform the RX10. its 'range' vs an average 'do it all' cam comparison, really.
@@Innocence44 I used to have p900 which I was planning to use for an annual convention but it doesn't work that good for that situation. In the end I was using Canon SX40 HS which has better capture (still having it) even when I was using the same range of zoom. Yes, during daytime outdoor, wildlife etc.. it is pretty good. While not carry my main camera now I am using the portable zoom from panasonic ZS70. Obviously not a good range like either p900 or SX40HS but the quality is pretty good during the indoor shot at 24mm with the flash. Using it for Dragoncon. Sensor could be the same but the lightness and size is what I like.
Okay so the online thing tested is the actual zoom?
You could have just read that in the specs.
The Nikon zooms further.
I bought nikon p900 2017 till now im still using its so fun taking videos and photos even if its too far ..
Great comparison, many thanks.
the quality of RX wins for me despite abit bigger zoom by p1K the 1 inch sensor is superb
Thank you for taking the time to show us this comparison. Very interesting - wow!...low light on the Sony is incrdible. I have an a6300 and this (initially) looks even better at low light.
Thanks.
Now that is what you call a test. Thank you. Very usefull.
I got my p1000 yesterday and just looking at it makes me proud
-Zoom in, zoom in. There! We got our suspect
*CSI music breaks in*
Awesome comparison. Thanks!!
Nothing else is like the Nikon Zoom, image quality is a tie for day. Sony image quality is better for low light.
I liked the P900 but the P1000 I found really lacking in the far zoom area. The images were not nearly as good. The Sony though only a 600mm zoom has way better images. So I eventually went with the Sony SX10 IV.
Witam. Ja mam Nikon CoolPix P510 oraz P520. Super aparaty. Do 2km bez problemu można przybliżyć i rozpoznać osobę :) Pozdrawiam.
