The JAZZ SPLIT is easily one of the most popular dance moves ever! Check out this tutorial to learn how to do it AND how to slide back up SMOOTH!
Tip #1: When you drop into the split, make sure you land on your FEET FIRST, and then EASE your way to the ground, using your hands for support.
Tip #2: From the ground, immediately bounce back up, driving your feet into the ground and using your body to pull yourself up.
Tip #3: When you get back up to your feet, simply squeeze your legs together to slide all the way back up to full standing position.

I love that Jam was playing in the background
I once did this accidentally... I and my dance mates were shocked af.. 😂
This is great. I thought this move would be super hard but after watching your video and copying the steps I feel like I can already do it (well.. almost... now I'm going to dedicate myself to watch this video a couple times this week to master it)
My favorite dance from prince.
Tap Dancers were the pioneers of this move!!!!
Only Chanel that explains getting up properly :D You my friend earned a subscription.
Thank you! Believe it or not I plan on using this in a country dance I do to a song by Jake Owens. By the way... I am 42 and about to learn this and use it!
I've always wanted to do this move but never thought I had the flexibility. Thanks bro
Exactly what I needed. Thank you!!
Thanks so much. Probably the only channel that explains the most difficult locking moves on internet :D
Excellent instructions!! Thank u!
Great tutorial, just what i am looking for.
That helps me so so much for dancing
This is really good tutorial!!!
To be honest ...am perfecting my locking for battles with ur tutorial...thank u so much buddy..lots of love and respect ✨
Glad to hear it CJ! Thanks for watching 😊
My oh my! Finally found this video again! First time I saw this was probably in 2021. Just want to thank you for this lesson! Your guidance helped me figure out how to Jazz Split (by stopping half way down and then ease my body all the way down to the floor). Nobody had ever mentioned that part to me before, so thank you!
Thank you!!!
Thanks, it is too useful
Awesome 😎!!!!
I'm gonna do this at my prom. Who's the nerd now, huh?!
Thanks man :D
Thanks Joey, your video is real helpful! This is one of the first dance moves I'm actually having to practice more than a day to master, and it's great that you have progressions here like there are in calisthenics moves. One thing tho, and this is for @Sao vang and @Daniel Porter as well: if you're having trouble getting up onto your knee like I was when I started learning this move a week ago, I recommend starting with the "getting up onto your knee" step but with having your hands on the ground and pushing off of them to get you up. This will help you strengthen your legs since you can do more of, or maybe even the full range of motion with your hands on the ground right off the bat. Over time, only use your 10 fingertips instead of your hands, then 8, then 6 et cetera until you get to where i am now and you can get up onto one knee using momentum like Joey does in the video
Edit: don't worry if it takes you more than a week to do, and it could also take less time if you're more experienced/stronger than me😂
Awesome explanation dude. Would you please provide a tutorial for the sequence you did at the end?
Thank u sir
You hit the splits like prince
Nice 👍, Love from India , I request you to please make some locking blocks tutorial so, we all can learn from you and use that block in our performance
Thank you soo muchh!!! But its soo harddd 😕🤧
Thanku sir
Love u nyc step
People who can’t even lift themselves up 😭
cool bro I alway think about that but now it is easy for me.what next bro
Omg ur soo cool n u tutorial is really helpful
Haha thank you! 🙏🏼
@@JoeyTheJAM could u also tell me how to do it smoothly like u
@@kruthikas9019 hahahaha that just takes practice!!
Its so easy lol😁
I need to stretch for this 😬
I’ve been at it for 2 months consistently. I’m almost all the way down
Prince did the cleanest split ..
Not me being unable to do this because im not flexible enough 😭
Thanks for sharing this. How much do you weigh? Cause I know being a certain weight size does help.
Fred Berry was a big guy and an amazing locker. He did this move all the time.
Why is it so hard to get back up😭
Just go slow
Hey Joey, do you know the song at 9:57?
It’s called Go Go by Dance Style Lockers
@@JoeyTheJAM oh, thanks man! Love your videos as well. They make me want to get into locking. Earned yourself another sub! Peace.
Hi.... Bro To do this Move Full Stretching (Split) Is Necessary Or Not , Please tell me bro I'm so Confused
No technically this is a half split, not a full split, so the idea is not to be in a full stretch. But being flexible does help as with everything!
@@JoeyTheJAM thanks bro for reply Love ❤ from India 🇮🇳
@@JoeyTheJAM I figured out that i'm not that flexible with half split. I mean, I can do half split, but I don't feel at ease at all. I'm planning on teaching my body being in the half split position for 2 weeks before I can do the drill at 3:27
After two weeks I think i'm gonna start with the drill. Is that okay ?
By the way, thank you for the tutorial brother !!
How can I get flexible enough For that?
Stretch! Haha
how do you sit up during a split cuse i can't do it i lean back on with my hand holding me up
You have to use momentum to pull your just up as well as have good leg strength to push 👍🏼
@@JoeyTheJAM so do i need to lean in more on my left or right leg thats stretch out or this is not me being flexible enough problem
@@JoeyTheJAM cause the more i try and strecth out the more i lean back having to use my hand to hold me up
I have no flexibility😫
Keep stretching 😂
