I've been b-boying for years. If I knew, or practiced, other styles today, I would be a much better b-boy. Just by watching how other dancers interpret their dance and the music, there is a lot of inspiration that you can get from dances besides your own

What does it mean to "siphon" a dance form? Is it mimicking? I'd be ok with somebody trying out any of these styles even if that sombody doesn't know much about the history. Most of the dancers in the video emphasize self-expression as well as community. And, really, dancing isn't the saving the world; it's dancing, so why not? Let people have fun and do their thing.

As a shuffler and as others have pointed out, it is crucial to also include the "T-Step" along with the Running Man as the foundational moves. These two together is what makes shuffling and the illusion that one is gliding through the dance floor. Also as someone from the Chicagoland area, "Mike n Ikes" is not a name used in shuffling. As you said, it has a lot of names and shuffling commonly uses "Crab" like from hiphop or "Heel Toe", but the name "Mike n Ike" is directly referencing Chicago Footwork. While the move is very similar, the name and style differentiate the two. Look up Chicago Footwork by King Charles and Pause Eddie and you'll see where "Mike n Ikes" comes from. I love that the video is showing a glimpse of the history of each dance so it's important to know these terms and where they came from! Otherwise cool video!

Heel is different from Mike n ikes. In funk social dances from 60s/70s this move was the Watergate or the funky chicken. Even further back to Vernacular solo jazz its connected to the Mashed potato or the twist

Always loved dancing, and went to a hip-hop studio for a few years when I was younger, but this vid has kind of reignited that love for dance again. I've honestly forgotten the passion and joy that I get from dancing. Glad t have a sense of that again with this Vide

It's amazing how much control these people have over each of their muscles and bones. I love the way they can isolate them and move them independently of each other.

My main style right now is Waacking and I really really love waacking as a whole. I'm currently exposed and training to other dance styles such as afro and dancehall because of my current crew. Dancing these 3 dance styles for me has this amazing feeling of freedom and comfort. Dance styles like these made me respect and appreciate all kinds of dancing even when I'm not practicing them because every dances has a history and origin that should be recognized and respected. This video is one step for educating new dancers about the various dance styles. Thank you so much for this amazing video Steezy !
