  • Mini bike MAX RPM with a stock rod pt3
Installed valve shims and an aluminum retainer kit on the already modified Tillotson 212-powered Motovox mini bike to see how much more RPM the stock rod could handle.

Thanks for doing this test nobody else tries pushing stock rods to the breaking point. Also what I think is happening is at high rpm’s the rod isn’t getting lubricated properly that’s when you feel the vibrations and loss of power. The dipper splash oiling system just isn’t enough at those rpms. Keep up the good work look forward to your videos. 👍

Yes, tis is what im thinking . I had a flathead Briggs do the same thing back in the day. It ultimately seized the rod to the crank breaking the rod.

Intermittent fuel starvation, possible float bowl aeration caused by vibrations at high rpm.

I currently drive with this type of set up on a extreme power us motor and i don't have my GPS to see how fast i was going but i too feel like it lost some power today the only thing I guessing it could be is that one of the valves springs came loose or the spark plugs Bent. I was last messing with the valve springs before it happened. Awesome video and that rear sprocket looks badass😎

Excellent content B66. You bike mods are next level. The engine sounds like it kept pulling throughout the RPM range.

Great video Black! I like that you used the clamp now to change the valve springs instead of the screwdriver like you used to. I always say! Work smarter not harder! Can't wait for the next video :)

I had a 10,000 on a 212 (non hemi) port and polished the gills out of it, port matched in A.D.D. fashion. 20,000s shave, 24 pound springs. Mod 2 cam, bullet rod, flat piston, flywheel. Frankly was amazed it started. It would go like an animal, but head gasket would fry in days. Once it got hot. Loss compression, loos power. My top rpm I got was 7500

Do a breakdown and rebuild video for us. You can toss a 58mm stroke crank in it while you’re inside that beast

After watching these I did a similar test with a bsp-4 cam with the stock rod in a tillotson. It ran fine for a month or so until the other day when it felt like I was slamming on the brakes in the high rpm’s just like this. Definitely getting a billet rod

If you watch the follow up video to the stock rod video you will see why the stock rod doesn't stack up. czcams.com/video/r9lghhRinK8/video.html

Could it be that the coil is breaking up at high rpm?

the minibike expert may say the piston is starting to hit the head with the tin gasket and stretchy rod!

  • @WyFoster

I've noticed they really start to have problems around 15hp. They end up turning the big end of the rod into an oval and pinching the oil clearance doing so and then detonating.

    Fuel or Ignition.
I would look for water in the fuel first.
Coils as they heat up with S__T the bed but run fine at low/idle.

Dyno makes a rev limiter coil that I put on my Ducar 224 just to be safe.
5250rpm might not be everyones idea of enough but I ride off road with a lot of stop and go, trying to build a torquey bike.

I believe you would be spinning the rod bearings if the stock rod had them. More than likely an oiling issue.

Would turn 7700-7800 all the time on factory rod and piston. On multiple HF predator cheapie motors. Would also spray them with 8hp worth of nitrous. Broke a piston or 3... never a rod.
