    I asked my psychiatrist to go on Strattera because of the earlier video and I felt I related a lot with the issues you had. It's been a week and I am SO GLAD I made the change (from Concerta). I feel normal and stable for the first time ever!
    Thank you for this and I wish you well(:

    Hello from across the pond. Your story is so helpful. I am 58 and was diagnosed in January with ADHD. I could not continue treatment because of being overwhelmed and insurance. We have a great ADHD clinic here in Oregon so I hope to start up soon. I was not diagnosed yet with inattentive ADHD but listening to you has been a huge eye opener!! I was terrified of medication as I tend to do things naturally.. but listening to you is giving me the courage to pursue it! Thank you!!

      and how was with Adderall? I didn't try so far stimulants. always been a bit scared of trying it as I know that there has been so nasty side effects. Well, I'm sharing what I can as I'm 40 and I had a long life experience of being "lost" all the time. It can be OK as an artist but that is basically all you can do and even that you can procrastinate. :o

    Hi Sarah,
    I recommend trying a stimulant on top of your straterra for hyper focus when required. I am trialling some on top of effexor (similar to straterra) and finally today I was able to hyper focus into my art and just paint without all the questioning and "trying to" do my art. I wouldnt even call it hyper focus id call it focus and It was great!! It turned on that part of my brain that allowed me to enjoy and create intuitively without all the questioning and trying to see where i am going... if u follow me. The stimulants work differently when your on something that gives you a foundational normalisation. They aren't overwhelming like you may think. It just switches on a different part of the brain that allows you to hyper focus!! Good luck

      Thank you both for sharing, I’ve been on methylphenidate since being diagnosed last august (at 44) and saw my doc a month ago due to the appetite suppression and insomnia it was causing. I’m four weeks into adding Atomoxetine (10, 18, 25 and now 40mg) to the routine and something really seems to have clicked in the past week or so. I’ve dropped my morning methylphenidate dose to around half and I feel like the Atomoxetine has given me a baseline level of functionality that feels quite alien, sleep has massively improved over the past two weeks, I wake up at ‘normal’ times instead of being knackered and foggy until mid afternoon, as I have been since forever. Feeling very cautiously optimistic!
      I’ve just agreed with the doc to stick with 40mg Atomoxetine and to manage my methylphenidate dose as I see fit. I may get to the point I don’t need the slow release morning dose (was 40-50mg, now around 20-30) but I’m feeling like I need to stick the immediate release 5-10mg in the evening or when needed, mainly to slow my brain down after work. I was sceptical about that actually working after the doc suggested it (before Atomoxetine) but it absolutely did.
      Thanks again for sharing, I was just having a mooch about to see how my experiences align with others who’ve been on a similar path and I’m now cautiously a bit more optimistic that I’ve found a combination that works.

    Stumbled over your videos because I am on a look out for positive stories about Strattera as I'm about to start up on it in a month or so. I was originally diagnosed 3 years ago and was put on Ritalin which made my panic attacks 10 times worse so I got scared off trying any other meds. Now, however, I think I am ready to give it another try and your videos has really helped me to calm down and hope that Strattera will turn out to be a more positive experience for me, so thank you for that.

      I've had similar experience. Now I'm trying stimulants again now that I'm on an anti anxiety medication similar to straterra and the stimulants actually just do there job now without any anxiety... I find stimulants are great for mental focus and executive function the non stimulants are great for balancing moods, anxiety, impulsivity, sensory sensitivities etc.

    Thank you for your video. You seem to be very level-headed, and you're someone I can believe. I start on Staterra today, so I'm a bit worried about the side effects. I'm glad you pointed out that your hyperfocus went away. I am a programmer, and that does come in handy, but I'm tired of losing focus every minute, so I'm going to try the drug. Thanks again.

    I've been on a slippery slope for a few years now. I've been begging my doctor for help. She tried every antidepressant possible. Nothing helped. However I have never felt depressed. Chronic fatigue yes. Anxiety has been out of control. Not getting out of bed. It all sounds like depression but it's not IMHO.
    Second day on atomoxetine. 40 mg. I feel less anxiety. My minds wanders less. I'm not sure if I should be operating a motor vehicle. I'm good with the blunting for now. The hamster is sleeping. Restless legs are subsiding. Anxiety has been putting me on a slippery slope. We'll see what day 3 brings.
    I'm hoping I'll be less of a wimpy when my family doctor sees me in 2 weeks. She has been supportive but I felt like a useless whiner. I'm hoping for real progress.
    Stay with it 🤞👍

    It's very brave of you to talk about this. I know from experience that mental health is taboo and not talked about in many cultures and places. It can be a source of shame, growing up with a disorder. We learn to cover it up and live with it instead of treating it, until it becomes too much of a problem. Realising that one is not alone in this situation and that there are ways to treat it, even if not perfectly is a game changer. When we think of a super-hero or heroin, we tend to imagine physical strength and supernatural powers, but to me you are one. You help to create awareness, understanding and perhaps acceptance for others also. Thank you for that.

I was actually laughing, but they don’t know if I got a concussion. 2) when I was playing soccer, at the time I was 9 years old I looked back and hit my head on a Metal gum ball machine. I got a deep cut, and probably suffered a concussion, but they never tested me. Hi Mary, I’ve been taking Strattera (25mg) for about 2 weeks now, and it’s been life changing. Everything seems easier, like I’ll notice the washing up needs doing and I’ll just get up and do it (& actually finish it!) wipe the kitchen down and it’s no big deal… before I’d have to talk myself into it, (aka shame myself!) I’d do most of it (always leave 3 things, why?!) and then wander off to do something else… literally now it’s like think of a thing to do, do it to completion (gasp!) job done!
      The biggest difference by far though has been on time blindness - I was absolutely hopeless on this front - late even when I really wanted to be there, all of the time, arrived embarrassed, ashamed and feeling useless, it was horrible.
      Now somehow I can work time out backwards, I allow much more time than I think, and I arrive (sit down…) EARLY! Like who am I now?! 😳😂.
      Honestly if this is how ‘normal’ people live life, they don’t know how blessed they are!
      So yes it really helps with executive function a LOT.
      And I seem to have increased memory naturally.
      I haven’t noticed any negative effects on creativity or emotional numbing either. Hope that helps! 😃

Is that something you may have tried that you can comment on it? I didn't think it was the kind of drug you can just stop at the weekend. One day I had to shift from taking it from the morning to the evening and it was such a terrible day. I was getting frustrated, I was crying, I felt really sick and had a bad headache. Not something I would even try to be honest. Don't you get withdrawal effects too? Actually, when I would write on the computer I would hyper focus but when writing by hand I would have a lot of scribbles all over the page!

      @@FindingYourSerenity I didn't feel some withdrawal effects so far but likely because I only start to feel effects on the third week. Actually not taking those today to see how I feel and for far is OK. I have seen people taking a bigger those compare to what I take at the moment and 50mg don't see that much of a change but the keyboard writing flow is already something. I need to check if I will be able to increase the dosage. By the way, is it in your country something the government help you with? In Europe, not such a bit help. Did straterra make you lightheaded when first starting? Did it go away if so? And how long until the sleepiness wears off? Did this cause any anxiety?

    • @FindingYourSerenity
      @FindingYourSerenity  Před 5 lety

      Yes I got some lightheadedness when starting and upping doses but it wasn't constant and it did go away after a few days. I also got sleepiness but when I upped to 30mg I was far too sleepy and could barely work so they dropped my dose to 25mg and no sleepiness.

      @FindingYourSerenity  Před 2 lety

      Yes I am and I actually started on 10mg then 18mg then 25 and then 30 and then back to 25! I'd recommend it but some people are on like 80mg! But the gradual increase on a low dose is best to minimise side effects imo.

      What are so far the side effects you faced? I should start with 25 mg, I’ll probably go with 18 and increase it. Did you try to take it in the evening 2-3 hours before bed?
