    Love to see more video updates like this!!! I’ve been medicated on Adderall for 7 years so i’m curious to see long-term what your journey will be like. Long story short, mine has been a rollercoaster ride over the years. I managed to salvage my undergrad GPA in 2 years and got into a master’s program in occupational therapy. Graduate school was definitely not was smooth as I was expecting, I struggled despite being on medications and have even upped my dose. I realized that medications by itself isn’t going to solve all my problems, especially the more complicated ones. I began learning mindfulness, meditation, and breathing practices which have helped a ton. I can now happily say that I graduated this summer with my MOT degree and am taking my board’s exam next week! I also switched over to Vyvanse which definitely helps!

      Thanks for the comment dude! So glad you were able to push through grad school and move on to a successful career. And you're right, mindfulness meditation along with regular exercise is imperative for focus (at least for me 😀). I wish I would of had this diagnosis along with meds in grad school. That was one of the most difficult challenges of my life. But hey better late than never! I hope Vyvanse is working well for you. I have a few friends who are on it and LOVE it! Take care 👊

    This gave me a ton of value, thanks for making a followup.
    I was just diagnosed and have been waiting for a week to get insurance garbage sorted (one pharmacy didn't take my insurance, but there's some super long process to first cancel the prescription at the first pharmacy before they can send it to another pharmacy) and have been looking up other people's experience with meds. I was first super worried about stimulants, even dropped a sleep doctor who wanted to treat my narcolepsy with adderall, but seeing so many positive stories makes me really regret that. (I now think the narcolepsy was a symptom of adhd)

Took me a very long time 2 decide 2 try medication... went wth nonaddictive Straterra as im a recovered alcoholic addict of 19yrs & do not ever wanna go backwards, however, i realize i need medication-- Straterra was not good at all 4 me. Now on generic adderall but psychiatric nurse practitioner only started me on 10mg 2x/day. After 2 wks n ALOT more research I called & asked her if we could up the dose or go 3x/day...she flat out said no, well discuss this at yer next appt. Told her its the lowest dose & i wanna discuss what im feeling...I was hurt,disappointed & totally felt judged becuz i asked 2 up the dose....that she didnt care nor wanna hear anything. I'm a keys player, and have played in a couple of bands for the last two decades. But I never bothered to learn songs in a way that I could settle an arrangement and do the exact same next time I played the song. The genre and environments in which I played hasn't demanded that of me either. I don't know the title of a single song when we play - or played - I had to quit because at one point even moderate sound levels started to bother me to the point of hurting in my ears - But. I've played in front of kinda large crowds - like 1000 plus (which isn't mega large, but then again I'm just an amateur hehe, and the normal evening at the stage is me trying to remember the titles of the songs. But can't really concentrate enough about that then to learn the titles.
      SO I used to have a list of titles on my set list. And it was mostly no point in it and not much help. It used to contain titles of songs + what key the song is in. At some point, I just started to write numbers and key. Like a list with numbers 1-10 for example - representing songs, and what key. SO I knew what key the next song was gonna be in. How I knew what tune to play, usually happened .5 seconds into the tune when I heard what the others played. I developed strategies like knowing what notes to hit first, and to not make it too complicated until I was catching on what tune to play.
      And u know... at practice when people wanna do parts of the song and they'll qoute lyrics to define where to start playing, I'm like - ok... just start, and I'll find my way there. I didn't even try.
      I hope to get some control over these issues as I proceed to get an actual diagnose if I can have one. And eventually get back to the musicianship. Life feels kinda meaningless now.

Don't have an official label. I get mad brain fog and lethargy, as well as feel pretty down in the dumps. Also found it works the other way; when I'm stress out and anxious I get a super crampy gut. There's definitely a well researched gut-brain connection that is undeniable. I don't know for sure if ADHD meds have helped with my gut issues (definitely not with food sensitivities). Maybe for the fact I am much more calm and less overwhelmed day to day that I have less anxiety related gut symptoms??? I will have to monitor. Thanks again! 😊

    A message of warning.
    Who am I?
    1. I have been diagnosed with ADHD, prescribed Concerta tried it twice (18g and 36g)
    2. I have tried recreational drugs like MDMA (ecstasy)
    How stimulants work:
    Understand how stimulants work: they make your body produce more serotonin and dopamine. These hormones make you feel great AND help you concentrate. Anyone with ADHD can relate to that feeling. We experience the same when working on a project that we are inspired by.
    What is the problem:
    1. MDMA and Concerta feel exactly the same (some people even say MDMA is less addictive). So make your own judgment when a street drug makes you feel the same as a prescribed medication.
    2. When used regularly the effects wear off and you will have to double your dosage. In a long run this results in your body not being able to produce hormones by itself.
    3. When #2 happens you become dependable on these drugs.
    What to do?
    Maybe learn to be yourself, accept ADHD, and don't take these drugs, they feel great at the beginning and make your life miserable at the end. There is no magic pill in this world. Anything that makes you feel great quickly probably going to be bad for you in a long run.

    • @dougaddiction3966
      @dougaddiction3966  Před rokem +15

      Well I guess you're welcome to your opinion. But, I wouldn't necessarily be giving people advice on whether to take a prescribed drug based on "some people say it's more addictive than MDMA". Show me the data from a few research studies that replicate these anecdotes then we can talk. I've never tried MDMA but I've seem people on it and I'll just say they do not behave as though they're ready to tack a busy day at the office or write some final exams. The effect is not the same as methylphenidate.
      In addition, serotonin and dopamine are not hormones; they are neurotransmitters. Methylphenidate increases levels of dopamine (a neurotransmitter) in the brain which causes the individual to be more stimulated by mundane tasks, as to find them rewarding and to not continuously be looking for a more stimulating activity (i.e., sustain attention). I don't see anyone I know who's on concerta wandering around rubbing up on furniture with saucer sized puples, telling everyone how much they love them.
      Everyone is welcome to their opinion. But don't go around selling that shit like it's factual. Ok?
      Peace ✌️

    • @johnmoore1495
      @johnmoore1495 Před rokem +8

      ADHD is a chronic condition, it’s a deficit of norepinephrine and/or dopamine depending on the person. Hence using a drug/being dependent on a drug to resolve that deficit is not problematic. In fact people with ADHD who are not medicated are significantly more likely to abuse drugs and die earlier. We don’t tell diabetics to toughen up and stop taking insulin, so we shouldn’t tell people with ADHD to just fix their brain.
      In regards to your claim that you’ll have to double your dose etc. Those people are chasing euphoria, expecting the medication to make them happy rather than the medication giving them the capability to make themselves happy. Medication is a tool not a magic happy pill.
