  • From the beginnings of the EVE Universe, its inhabitants were born into chaos, forever struggling to create order only to write a new chapter of discord in the annals of history. Rising, clashing, and discovering, just to fall again as the machinations of their efforts and ambitions extend beyond their control.
It is into this vicious cycle that you are now reborn, the capsuleers and mercenaries that decide the fate of an entire universe, changing the future and altering the course of all that will be... forever.

I would throw my money at CCP so hard if they made an expansion involving the Earthlings returning to New Eden after centuries of advancing separately with the advantages of all four races, to reclaim their colonies. Would be some nice lore-based content and co-op PVE in this otherwise solely PVP series.

    • @hectorae86
      @hectorae86 Před 9 lety +18

      It can be done actually:
1 year after the EVE gate collapsed, Earthlings sent a gigantic ship towards the New Eden galaxy.
On board are several million inhabitants, who are put into hibernation for the entire trip.
Thousands of years later, the ship reaches New Eden and takes control of what was formerly Jovian space (the area that is still connected with stargates up north).
And then you can basically form some new lore around that, make that area high sec, add the race as a fifth race or something and connect their local region with the rest of empire space with a single stargate.
Doing it this way, you ensure that the Earthlings (actually called Terrans or Terranians) did not evolve their technology, since they lived in hibernation all this time, so technically, they'd be at around the same tech level.
It would also mean CCP wouldn't have to invent some new weapon system, since the tech is largely the same.
Shield tanked laser boats could be opened up to the game more realistically then it is now, or perhaps even armor tanked missile boats (yes they can be done already, but not all that efficiently).
Their titan would have the shield crushing Doomsday Device, effectively using the opponents shields as a weapon against itself (shield crushes in on the ship, trying to compress it as it were).

So those ships are likely superior to what is present in New Eden now. Eve is all well and good in tactics and strategic allowance. There is practically no limit to what you can do. HOWEVER, the game play experience of Eve is lacking. It needs to be more, chaotic. And on simple things really.. like the way a ship explodes; back to front; rips apart; one giant bang; just dies out. That's when the game becomes unpredictable. That's when Eve gets a little mystery and curiosity. Nothing can make it more life-like than, Chaos.

Yeah, the offical New Eden crew Guidelines takes that into consideration. Almost the entire crew of an frigate are expected to die for example, since frigs tends to go quickly, and also might have less security precautions (bulkheads, protective barriers, etc.) while a battleship might have up to 50% survivors even if it is destroyed.
That's what I love about the EVE lore, they take a lot of stuff that doesn't really affect the game into consideration, and write lore for it anyway.

The most advanced techniques remove blood and refrigerate it before recirculating it, more basic techniques use chemically chilled blankets and ice packs. Either way if the body temperature can be lowered quickly enough it delays cell death and brain damage due to lack of oxygen.

Try a few thousand years of science advantage. I think Talocans are a good example here. They essentially continued developing after the collapse of Eve gate so they'd be on par with whoever remained on Earth.
While the current 4 races were still in infancy stage, the Talocans mastered space-time manipulation. What we now call W-sapce used to be Anoikis, the home of Talocans. What we call wormholes now are not natural phenomena, theyre remnants of Talocan technology that went out of hand during Isogen-5 incident. Theyre essentially an equivalent of stargates, except Talocans were so badass that they didn't need these huge constructions we use now. They quite literally bent space-time and opened passages at will. Eve was more likely a giant natural wormhole, probably made in a supernova of some sort.
Thing is, Talocans are gone. Jove are the only race that have had any links to them and they're pretty much gone as well at this point. Therefore IF Earth still exists, it's either unpopulated and original Terrans are gone, or it's populated by God-like beings that will subjugate us the second we lay our eyes on them, maybe even before then if they figured out time travel.

Volta had the equivalence of a very expensive laboratory for his time. The shear level of travel, time, and resources for his experiments can be pretty interesting when you think about it(failures have no need to be recorded for the historians).
Just because our "standard of discovery" is higher now days, doesn't mean that it's cheaper when compared to the past.

Too bad Eve didn't actually look and, more specifically, play like this. No time dilation and making one move every 20 minutes like actual big battles. PR videos are always so pretty and unrealistic.

    • @Brokkolesz
      @Brokkolesz Před 10 lety +10

Well if you think you only have to one once every 20 minute you are probably doing it wrong. Fleet placement can mean the difference between life and death. I just uploaded a video yesterday where we destroy an equally big fleet just by manouvering around them, which resulted in us taking barely any casualties.
And if you zoom in, battles are pretty similar. But since that way you can't see shit, 95% of the players zoom out to get a better view at the battle.

That's exactly what EVE Online explains by giving each pod pilot, and the Dust bunnies, a clone. There is no break in the continuity. Of course the pilot returns, he just had to reship [and update the clone].

The lasers in both EVE and Dust are instant in the games or "light-speed" if you will. The slow "lasers" you see are actually projectile plasma weapons.
As for sound in space, it's there for game-play reasons, so you know what is going on around you. However, there is a lore reason behind it. It has something to do sensors outside the craft that can detect energy and convert it to sound for the pilot. Take it as you will, but that's the reason.

True, the challenge is as much warming the person up after resuscitation as it is cooling them down in the first place. Both are tricky processes and can easily lead to the patients death, of course then the doctors need to deal with whatever caused the situation in the first place.
We are living in amazing times when it comes to medical breakthroughs though.

That mainly refers to the faction warfare, where Amarr fights Minmatar and Caldari fights Gallente, usually leading to alliances between Amarr and Caldari as well as Gallente and Minmatar. Outside of faction warfare, it is a free for all and your race really has no effect on who or what you can shoot.

Also they are even experimenting with DX11. They have shown tech demos utilizing DX11 on ships. I don't know when that major upgrade is going to be put into a major expansion. But I imagine they will do it in the next two to three years. Which is fine with me as the game is absolutely gorgeous as it is.

Well, whether or not you can separate lore and player actions depends on how you view them. I find it very easy to separate them, and while in some cases player actions directly affect the lore, in most cases they remain entirely set apart from each other. Changing that, I think is the goal of the ccp player events team. Anyway I deleted the comment because people were misunderstanding what I meant by it.

  • @arcanus55

its likely that there will be common areas in stations where people can mingle in the future, but ship's bridges and quarters is not likely to happen. Also they are incrementally updating the ship textures with each new expansion, take a look at the odyssey keynote to see the updated Avatar skin.

  • @Vayne42

I'm a bit rusty on my EVE backstory, but IIRC the colonies were not self-sufficient as nobody expected the wormhole to close. When the cataclysm happened the shockwave destroyed most of the established stargate network (the Eve system being a hub for that network for obvious reasons), nobody on the Eve side of the WH had the high tech production to repair them or maintain their tech. Most colonies died out, those that survived had to restart from scratch. Thousands of years pass, people forgot.

Caldari and Amarr, as well as Gallente and Minmatar are allies. You won't see fights between the factions much.
However, you're not bound to your faction when you play the game. A Caldari pilot can abandon his faction, go live in Gallente space and join a faction warfare alliance to fight the Amarr.

Before I played EVE, my friends always dragged me into LoL. I played it so much I doubted that there were any social and respectful gaming communities.
Then I signed up to EVE during the Retribution expansion last Dec. I found a corp that showed me the ropes, I met respectful miners and duelers. Even the pirates joked around when they blew up my ship. "...far above and beyond..." is a perfect way to describe the EVE community.
Yes, there are scammers but if you know better you won't conned.
