Instead of the Fallout 4 next gen upgrade, I wish we were getting a New Vegas and Oblivion remaster.
Same especially since the Fallout show dropped and is surprisingly good
A next gen rtx mod was released recently.
hell yeah
We are getting an Oblivion remaster aren't we? Also Skyblivion exists sort of.
Remember, a Fallout London game is in the works for PC and it looks pretty damn promising.
I played Mass Effect trilogy when it came out in 2021 and oh boy, I truly felt like a Kid playing it on a Saturday morning. The game is incredible, immersive and it just keeps you going back for more. Definitely deserved a spot on this list 👍
I was around for the hype leading into 3. Seeing a live action commercial for a video game was a rare treat in those days.
I'm glad you said "trilogy".
Because as we all know. There are only 3 Mass Effect games. And that is all.
My face is tired. I have to go now...
@@Low-Key123 3 i thought there was only Andromeda , did they make 2 after
@@Low-Key123Andromeda has the best combat, though, hands down
@@shreder75 So what? Its still not a Mass Effect game.
Its bad fan fic made by purple haired weirdos.
Flying around in a ship with no guns, part of a daft CIVILIAN run operation instead of military, with an ai in your suit that does everything for you and less variation in species, characters, enemies and environments than previous games lol. No thanks.
Pure garbage.
I want to add to this list. The Darksiders franchise is honestly a hidden gem. They're primarily hack n slash, but they have RPG elements as well. Darksiders: Genesis being a twin stick top down shooter really freshens things up as well.
Always too generic and empty feeling for me
I loved Darksiders Genesis and never see people talk about it. Underrated game imo
hmm. i thought it was an action adventure.
When i was playing Darksiders 2, I couldn't help but feel like something was missing. It felt like a cheap ps2 game with some diablo loot mechanics......................
.....with that said, I couldn't stop playing it, and the lore was amazing. When I finally finished it, I was disappointed... but not because it was a bad game, but because I wanted more.... lol
I just want to add the Yakuza Franchise because i recently fallen in love with it
Yakuza is great but not RPG.
It's an awesome action role-playing game, beat em' up. I need to play more of it!
"KIRYU CHAN!"
And don’t forget judgment and lost judgment. Two great games in the yakuza franchise but from the perspective of a former lawyer private investigator.
@@thanhuy2583like a dragon and infinite wealth are most definitely rpgs...
Fantastic games, but only the Like a Dragon main entries are RPG really. And they are super recent

1:54 Marvel's Midnight Suns
2:45 Bloodborne
4:36 South Park: The Stick of Truth
6:27 Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
7:38 Dragon Quest XI
8:41 Mass Effect Legendary Edition
10:08 Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition
10:54 Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
11:53 Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
12:54 Bonus: Wasteland 3 & Blue Dragon
Don't skip Kindom Come Deliverance. It's one of tte best and overlooked RPGs of its generation. Hoping for a PS5 port before the sequel.
It's way too tedious
100% KCD should be on this list
Kingdom come is the most grueling tedious and boring game of all time. Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amulur and Greedfall are leagues better if you want great Medieval rpgs
I just bought that on xsx on sale for $4.
I skipped it. Sorry.
Finally Midnight Suns is getting love. If you're a real fan of Marvel comic books, you'll at least appreciate this game. I absolutely LOVE the card gameplay, the characters, the world building, the story. It's one of the few games I tried to 100% and really hope we get a sequel.
I loved the idea and I’m a huge fan of xcom games but the card system and the dumb exploration in the middle ruined it for me.
That game was amazing. The character decks felt so perfect for each character. Spiderman was definitely my favorite!
I'm a comics fan. I can literally play this game for free at the moment thanks to PS+. I don't. Why? Because the game was advertised as X-Com but with superheroes. It is anything but that.
In reality, it's a card game, and a pretty basic one, that essentially "animates" the cards. There is some very minor positioning involved, and that's as close as the game gets to being a tactics game.
The filler in the middle with the made up character and the interactions is just that, filler.
Thank God that when I went to purchase this at Gamestop when it released, I heard the $75 total and said nope. I was not aware that it was one of the games with the new "standard" pricing. It saved me $60 plus tax. 😂
@@Xoulrath_ lucky you, I splurged for the deluxe edition and was sorely disappointed.
@@gasmaskdude2687 damn, that sucks. I for real got lucky because had the game been at the $60 price point, I would have bought it that day without question. Then I would have been disappointed as well.
planescape torment's "unbroken circle of zerthimon" is an example of flawless writing, in any medium.
Is there a certain path you have to take to get that "circle"? Is it only for certain character choices? I've tried to play through the game a few times and have made it varying distances through it.. but never finished it, and I don't remember that Circle even though I've seen it mentioned a few times recently.
Dragon Age Origins should be on this list for SURE for people who never played it. I've beaten it multiple times on console and I'm thinking about giving it another go on PC as well.
Jade Empire too, easily Bioware's most underrated game in my opinion
It's sadly unplayable on pc, or at least for me. Bought it after Mass Effect LE Introduced med to the BioWare universe, but crashed every 15 minutes really killed it for me
Midnight Suns is a great shout, such an underrated game.
Surprised it's an Xcom/Mario + Rabbids sort of game. Always thought it was another online game like Marvel or Suicide Squad from the icon on the Xbox store. Feel dumb not researching on it myself, looks like something I'd enjoy.
Its a shame the Abby was so poorly received. The combat and deck system was dope!
I fucking love Midnight Suns. I've dumped 100+ hours into it since i decided to finally play it Feb this year.
Criminally underrated, abandonned by the devs because of it. It deserved so much more.
Great game, honestly. The biggest problem is the Abbey. It's just kinda meh in a lot of ways. The combat was so damn good, though.
@@silenzeio I wouldn't say it was abandoned by the devs, they released a bunch of great DLC after the game launched.
I'm so glad you added Wasteland 3! I played the heck out of that game and it's so underrated.
My next game after New Vegas
Not in the RPG theme, but I went back to my GOG library and (re)played some truly Good Old Games, like Syberia, The Dig, Broken Sword(s), Myst... I'm not even 40 and I feel old! :)
It's gonna be nice jumping back into the PS5 upgrade of Fallout 4, April 25th! If only we could get a F3 and New Vegas remaster.
3 and NV deserve competent remakes at minimum imo. Totally different tones to each game, but great in their own right.
We wish we wish.
Revisiting Fallout New Vegas plus watching the Fallout TV show has been an amazing experience!!
Exactly what I’m doing as well
The show was a pile of 💩
@@Pyrate_Of_Las_Vegas
Facts 💯
The show is a steaming pile of dog 💩
Went back to fallout 3 then will do new vegas then will do 4 cannot wait to get to new vegas 😂😂
Very first one! YAAAY am deep into a Tale of Two Wastelands (and heavily modded besides!) playthrough as we speak, almost 200 hours in or maybe over :)
As always wonderful list, Gameranx :)
I've replayed mass effect trilogy so many times back in the days, I loved all the amazing characters, their interactions, love, and of course Tali best girl, and Jack right behind her because of her romance is really satisfying
Yeah Mass Effect 1-3 will forever have a place in my heart as I played them on the 360 when they released way back and truly immersed into them and enjoyed them so much. Then , older, i got the trilogy to replay back in 2022 and i got to relieve those days but on the PS5.
I also, have been playing FO76 since launch and yeah, the beginning year or two, was BAD on glitches, errors, issues and even boring due to no human NPCs just robots to talk to or visit. Now, in 2024, though there's still some bugs and blue screens time to time, it's a really fun game and far better than how it began, as you said
It great you mentioned Blue Dragon at the end. Going back through the game myself right now. Another honorable mention too would have heen Lost Odyssey another great rpg to visit as well.
Now that we're on the subject of revisiting old games, I'd like to play the Mercenary games again. Especially the first one with the playing card boss system. I miss that.
Love your guys channel ❤
Bloodborne is one of the rare games where it's impossible to overrate it. One of the best of all time, sheer perfection.
As a perpetual quitter of turn-based JRPGs, Dragon Quest 11 was the first one I actually managed to finish. Fantastic game.
So true. Besides all of your nerd 12 year olds that’ll say “BUT ITS 30 FPS DUDE🤡”
and it'll never release on pc
bloodborne is my favourite game of all time
Agree
I still gotta git gud 😞😭
I only played Skyrim once and I’m now replaying it in the year 2024 lol. And you know what. It’s fun. It’s got a good gameplay loop. And the courier running towards me is the scariest thing I’ve seen in a while
I replaced the courier with a supermodel mod so it’s no longer scary when they show up with a letter.
@@majorgear1021 I’ll keep that in mind for my modded playthrough lol
Funny enough, already revisited most of these games already. Great vid
So glad you mentioned 'Blue Dragon' that game was unreal! I absolutely loved it as well as 'lost odyssey', around that 2007/08 period ♥️
Modding New Vegas was probably the most fun I’ve had playing video games. I definitely recommend it!
Million times better than watching the Fallout TV show.
Have you played new Vegas : DUST mod?
Might I suggest the hit game Persona 5? And the series that it was inspired by Shin Magami Tensei! We are getting a brand new ip from Atlus called Metaphor Refantazio this year, and! We re getting a re release of Shin Magami Tensei V called Vengeance. And it is cool as hell. They’re adding 80 hours of content you’re getting 2 games in 1!
Always a great day when gameranx post notis hit my phone
Space 1889 was awesome when I was a kid. You will need dosbox or something like it to run it on modern OS's though as it is a DOS game.
19:30 - I'm not from the US, but isn't Nevada (and New Vegas) to the east of California, not the west?
Yes that’s correct haha
I’m not a geographist , but I believe you are correct.
So glad you gave a shout out to Planescape Torment. One of my fav games of all time. The story and character development is amazing. It’s an exceptional implementation of optional party members that you can also choose to deep dive into their back stories and make a meaningful connection with.
I just recently replayed this game and while it's more reading than say BG 1 & 2, the story is very enjoyable and the mystery surrounding the main character. I think the only negative was the huge amounts of times you will hear "updated my journal", but I went and edited the sounds file to replace that with a pencil scribble sound ^_^
YES Mass Effect here! I can cosplay Miranda happy next week now haha
Midnight Suns was a surprise. I did not expect to love it and the card drawing thing took a bit to get used to , but wow, the game is fantastic from start to finish
Oh wow didn't think you'd mention blue dragon. That and lost oddessy are hidden gems.
Oddyssey?
Ys VIII was the first entry I played and I'll hold it as special to me.
Ys IX is a ton of fun if you like that sort of Marvel open world style of traversing
I played all the games I can have on PSN (VIII, IX, Celceta, Origin) hope I can find a way to get more
I've recently started playing Marvel's Midnight Suns like a few weeks ago and I love it. The game is my first strategy game in over a decade as well so, the fact that it's Marvel is what keeps me interested. Love learning about the characters and seeing the action happen.
I'm waiting for Ghost of Tsushima to release for PC on May 16th.
👍
Same
Really? I want to play that.
Same, super stoked to finally play it ! :D
Dude I wish New Vegas was the game getting the update. Won’t complain about getting a reason to hit Fallout 4 but NV would hit so hard
I’ve heard people say that Fallout 4 isn’t really a Fallout game. I haven’t played any of them, all I know is what I read.
They should've done fallout 3, new Vegas and 4. Kinda like the mass effect legendary edition
@@majorgear1021Yea, they dumbed down all of the RPG aspects and only really improved the gunplay.
@@majorgear1021Fallout 4 is decent but it's the worst IMO. It just doesn't feel like it fits in with the previous world building. Fans of the first 2 games are more likely to enjoy New Vegas as people who worked on the first two games also worked on New Vegas and recycled a lot of ideas from the original cancelled Fallout 3. Bethesda just doesn't quite understand the series and there's some blaring consistency issues compared with the first 2 games.
Fallout 4 plays the best (gunplay wise), IMO but story wise it's not great. It's fun for just messing around it though. I would still recommend it if you got it on sale for like 10$.
New Vegas has the most character interactions and more ways you can complete quests. Bethesda's fallout 4 gives you numerous things you can say in a dialogue but they basically all boil down to the same thing.
Never gonna happen.
Bethesda hates that people love FNV. They genuinely do.
They will never, EVER, work on improving something that was a reason for fans to belittle them.
Jade Empire and Sudeki on the originals Xbox were cracking RPG' s. Also the Fable trilogy on the 360 and the Witcher 2 were bangers worth giving another go.
I still have my OG XBox copies of Jade Empire and Sudeki. Both were awesome!
@@dennismckenzie8873 me too. Might need to dig them out and revisit!
I loved Dragon Quest and played it completely. I don't know if it's a version thing or so, but after the initial credits, you can play the story from a slightly different viewpoint. It's great and nearly as long as the first part.
I think I played Mass Effect from start to finish three times. The Legendary Edition last time, and I have to say the DLCs make the games even better.
Planescape is on the list of games I have to replay, if I find the time. It's a terrific game.
Elden Ring and Fallout 4 are my favorites
Eldin ring might be the best game I've ever played i thought after a year i might change my mind(recency bias)but i still have that sane opinion
@@laidbacksage2574 exactly and you know I have so much respect for this dev team! No micro transactions! No Battlepass crap! And tons and tons and tons of options for gameplay and exploration. I’ve never played a single player this detailed and addicting. This one and red dead 2 have to be my most favorite games ever
I keep hoping they will release a Next Gen Bundle for Fallout 3 and NV. At least we're getting Fallout 4 Next Gen in less than two weeks!
I would settle for a working PC version of Fallout 3.
I just recently completed Mass Effect Legendary Edition (with the Pinnacle Station mod installed to have everything in the series working), it goes up there with only a few other games that are very good.
It's good to go back and play older games. Thanks for the list.
It’s been mentioned on this channel a few times, but cyberpunk is one of my favorite games now that it’s been overhauled since launch. Excellent story, fun gameplay, and achievement hunting in it was a lot of fun. Definitely recommend
Mass Effect is super worth it. I was in camp "Angry about the third one", and gotta say the DLCs really fixed 90% of what I was salty about.
No it didn't lmao, game is still good but the DLC definitely didn't fix anything. Still getting crappy endingd no matter what.
@@justacheesecake6232 For me, the problem was feeling like you rush to the end, and there's never a point where you really reflect on your playthrough and all the choices you made.
The Citadel Party DLC just really helped in that regards, and that's what I'm referencing. Ya, that final cutscene and the ultimate choice being made is booty. But with all the DLC I think it feels more like a true send off for your specific Shephard, and that's what I really wanted back in the day.
I love the Mass Effect Trilogy , it's one of the a few RPGs that try to finish completely and enjoy every moments of it!!!(except collecting different elements in large quantity)
Ive been enjoying midnight suns, the combat gets suprisingly deep after you play for a while and its always giving your new characters, abilities and enemies. Its been added to the PlayStation+ catalog so you can play for free if you have that
Since Midnight Suns have shown up on PS Plus that's the only game I have been playing madly, and no other game could actually keep me this hooked since Ghost of Tsushima lol, I'm glad I found this gem that I'm loving gaming again.
New Vegas will never die.
When talking about dragon quest id love to see a dreagon quest builders III. I didnt get to play the first one but i played two and it was so much fun. Having npcs farm, build, fight, and all the other things they do is probably on of my most favorite things in town builders/rpgs/survival games
YS VIII, on top of being a very good game has one of the best early OST ever, Sunshine Coastline's theme is magnificent.
Glad Ys 8 got mentioned. Absolutely brilliant game
More to the…east. I’m so sorry but I had to.
I literally just started this up again yesterday! Now I’m seeing this video! Woo!!!
I just started playing SmallLand it's a fun survival 👍
spoiler: new fallout show is great
It's on Amazon prime video if anyone was wondering
its not ❤
Thanks for ruining it for me
Following the Fallout tv series, def gonna revisit some old fallout games.
As someone who has exclusively played Nintendo I’ve never played Fallout, and with the recent Fallout Magic the Gathering set and the streaming series it’s gotten me interested in the franchise. What is a good entry point game to play?
@@Gzilla313 Fallout: New Vegas.
To bad the show is hot garbage
@@dantevairos9574 Is it?
I haven't watched it, so what's wrong with it?
@Do-you-even-code-bro
It's one of those situations where if you don't care about established Canon, especially since it's set in the same area as New Vegas, it's not horrible on its own. As usual, tho these producers make changes and have set up that doesn't match up with anything established. Also, the fact that they intentionally struck down many reviews for review bombing. I watched 1 episode along with the trailer, which had me concerned to begin with. Alot of the positive reviews I've come across start with "love the politics" and "never played the games, but it's good".
All these things together paint the picture for me
I am pleasantly surprised that Ys VIII was so high up the list. I've been a fan of the Ys series for over a decade, but have played the games since the 90s. Yes, the series is that old, but really didn't get into the series until after they started redoing the games, starting with the remake of Ys III, as Ys: Oath of Felghana. YS VIII is definitely a strong entry in the franchise and, given the non-linear continuity of the games, takes place between Ys IV and Ys VI.
The storytelling was extremely good, the battle system was a refinement of the remake of Ys IV known as Memories of Celceta, and the game shows the strength of the soundtrack. A fair number of remixes of many classic tracks, which are done frequently in the series but retuned slightly to fit the game, and some absolute bangers in the more original ones.
I also agree with the Mass Effect Trilogy, I loved that series. And I really need to play the Legendary Edition to go through that again. It is space opera at its finest, with a large cast, a solid story that makes a lot of sense in the context of the lore, the science is internally consistent and is largely based off of actual existing science and theories (with the required handwave for FTL travel and communications, granted). The story is fairly simple at the start, but grows more complex as it progresses (though remaining internally consistent throughout).
Funny enough, I been playing more of Mass Effect 1 recently. Brought it back in 2014 digitally and played beginning of it. I was on a long, LOOONG hiatus of returning to Mass Effect save. Started playing it in 2022, and 2023. I recently completed Mass Effect for the first time. Surprised there was a second playthrough, as well as being a 24 hour long game. At the same time, have started playing Legendary Edition on Game Pass Ultimate than just the original. Gotta try out Pinnacle Station and Bring Down the Sky DLC as well.
I remember having an eye on Blue Dragon on the Xbox Live Marketplace back in the Xbox 360 days. Did get it few months back. It's a good RPG. Though could imagine its more impressive back then as a early 3 disk game for the Xbox 360, like with FF7 for PSOne. Still got that to get through, and DLCs to get for it.
Is college football 2025 an RPG 💀😂
Technically yes and if it makes you happy then play on amigo 👍
Can’t wait for that game.
I just saw this comment before the video loaded.. im going to pass on even watching it now. Lol😂
Just bought the Dead Space remake and gonna check out Days Gone... When I'm not playing Helldivers 2.
Midnight Suns os a big suprise for me. Though a dumbdown Xcom version it still hits great with RPG elements. Superhero genre, Turn Base RPG strategy with environmens. Also you can personalize your Superhero builds to what you want (Captian America still goat tank).
I'm jumping back into dragons age inquisition after going though dragons dogma 2.
I airways like Dai, and it's been so long since I've played it that it's essentially a new game again.
Witcher 3
I'm playing elden ring again to prepare for june

Jade Empire needs more recognition one of the single greatest RPG experiences I've personally ever had
I loved Jade Empire so much! I would love it getting a remaster or a sequel.
@@dennismckenzie8873 my dawg, its really one of the best RPGs of all time, idk why Ive never seen any desire for a remaster online, the game itself was received very well
I'm playing Marvel's Midnight suns right now. The writing can be quite 'how do you do fellow kids?' cringe at times but overall it's a pretty good game.
I like the writing, I get what you mean, but they really nailed each character’s personality.
@@colbymclemore7642 I think my biggest problem is Tony Stark who seems to oscillate between 2 modes, the "Oh my god magic is scary" and the "We have robert downey jr at home, robert downey jr at home..." mode.
The fallout show is superb!
I would suggest Tales of Arise if you never played it when it came out.
That game had one of the best cast of characters in any RPG, and the world was just stunning to explore.
Im playing Mass Effect trilogy now. I only ever played ME3 some time in 2015 or so, so actually playing trough all 3 games feels awesome
soulslike games are just hard games that some people think make them great. Regardless what you upgrade or do you'll get hit once and die. These type of games become a job rather than a game.
Clearly you have not played any. If you get one shotted its clearly an indicator that you’re too underpowered for that boss / zone
There's plenty of soulslike games that prevent you from going to certain areas until you progressed far enough in the story (i.e. until you leveled up enough). There will probably be a hidden boss somewhere early on that will one shot you, but the devs didn't put that boss there for the player to take it on that early. You're supposed to double back once you're stronger
Such a loser comment🤣 get better at games lol. Go back to Animal Crossing if they're too hard for you😭😭😭
No matter what the topic is, your lists always have at least one ”soulslike” game. Maybe leave those out sometimes?
Never played the fall out games but loved the show, I might have to check them out
I like that you put Blue Dragon on the list. Its an all time classic, but its sad that it was never ported to windows.

I played a decent bit of Midnight Suns when it was newer, but didn't progress the story too far. I thought I would only enjoy the combat aspect, and then suddenly I found myself enjoying the cheesy interactions between characters and exploring around the manor between missions. You try to get approval with different characters, I guess there's maybe even a bit of romance aspect? Different characters respond differently to certain messages and gifts. Selecting outfits and stuff like that too.
It became like Marvel meets X-Com, meets The Sims. 😅
I'm working through Ys Memories of Celceta, Ys VIII, and Ys IX right now. I want to finally knock them out before Nordics hits, which should be later this year. I love this series and they just keep evolving the games and making them better and better.
I want and need more of these videos. This is exactly what i was looking for. Already bought Marvel Midnight suns right now and thinking about Vampire the Masquerade already.
I played mass effect for the first time last year and just started replaying FO4. both still hold up very well
I literally just bought fallout new Vegas on a steam sale, I’m gonna play it for the first time after work today!
Play it at work. Live a little!
I got Stick of Truth when it launched, but hadn't ever finished it. circled back to it during covid and finally played through it. Was a blast really. Started Fractured But Whole, but it changed a lot and I just wasnt into it. Maybe some day.
Glad you guys remembered Blue Dragon ! 🥰
i replayed the mass effect trilogy and finished it a week ago, the feels hit again
Super niche but shout-out Enchanted Arms. Old turn based strategy JRPG that was a 360 launch title made by FromSoftware. Love that game
Lost Odyssey is still a fun one too… almost 20 years old now but it’s great.
Midnight Suns is an absolute Gem. a very pleasant surprise so far❤🎉
Dragon Quest XI is one of my favourite games. The look, the music, the humour. Just such a good game. Having said that the Mass Effect trilogy is top tier.
Thx for mentioning blue dragon😊
Just gone back to the witcher 3 after all these years. Trying a deathmarch run - wish me luck!
Good for you....someone discovered a new Easter Egg BTW....after 9 years the game keeps giving.
@@flicka25 its one of my comfort games, along with the likes of skyrim and weirdly hitman where I can happily get lost in it
I love midnight suns, such a great and fun experience!
The OG mass effects are so good
I’ll never forget how cool it felt to import my character from ME1 into ME2. That was one of the coolest features I had ever seen a game series do
True. I’ve run into some bugs with the Xbox version of LE.
A common one is I’ll walk in one direction and the character is facing a different direction . It fixes itself after a while, but it takes me out of the game for a bit.
I actually like the story of midnight suns. But I'm a fan of the comics. This game is underrated. I got the legendary edition for $24 bucks.
I finally played Midnight Suns a few months ago after getting it half off a month or two after launch and it is great.
another reason I'd wanna revisit New Vegas is also rip Matthew Perry (who voiced Benny) passed away a couple months ago. Not his best work but he loved that game and it's sad we lost such a great actor and videogame enthusiast
I just finished Midnight Suns, loved it!
