    C20NE was such a reliable engine, and non interference, so when cambelt snapped, you did not damage any component, put new belt on, and you are good to go!

    • @Spudchucker92

      A few of those GM engines were non interference units. The cambelt on my Nan’s old Nova snapped one day. Just ‘BLOOP’ and it cut out. A phone call, RAC came out, 10 or 15 minutes later, up and running again.

      I have an Astra G here in Brazil with C20NE, it's an indestructible engine, it has a lot of power at low rpm, mine has 116hp, but at the end of its life, it reached 140hp, impressive for a 2.0 8-valve.

    Sweet memories of my 1.8 GL sedan steel gray. A car that I remember with particular affection for its incredible design, quality, simplicity and comfort.
    Among the few problems I had, the video reminded me of a strange defect in the heated rear window: after 7/8 minutes of switching on, the fuse box started to smell of burning and since the operating time was around 15 minutes without possibility of turning off, I had to turn off the engine and start it again.
    Once again thanks for the video!

    12 years at the weather and pretty much everything works...just air in the tires, clean connectors, fuel and a vacuum and it's ready to go. these last 80s to mid 90s projects are the last ones to be capable of that. of course to make it properly reliable, safe and asthetically good, more work has to be done, but this was supreme

    Sold as a Vauxhall Carlton here in Britain, it was a rival to the similar sized Ford Granada/Scorpio of the day, with popularity roughly split down the middle.
    I’m a Ford fan but I personally really like the Carlton/Omega A, it was certainly a better looking car than the blob-like Granada Mk3 which basically resembled a Sierra in a fat suit.

    • @Soulvex
      @Soulvex Před 7 měsíci +1

      And the Carlton came in a few cool trims and engine choices. I don't think the Granada could hold a candle to the Carlton. Not shitting on the Granada though, we had one, a 2.9 Ghia I think in white with cream leather and it squatted down when parked which was a cool feature. It was like a Limo.

    • @Spudchucker92
      @Spudchucker92 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@Soulvex Oh yeah the Granada was a lovely car to ride in, super comfy and with the 2.9 it shifted too. Looks wise I just wasn’t too keen on the hatchback model but the later saloon looked a lot better. 😃 The facelift models from 92-94 were smart looking cars too.
      Sports models were where the Carlton won out, I love the Granada Cosworth but the Lotus Carlton? What a motor. 😎

    I had just like this onw but in claret color, a '88 2.0i Caravan. That C20NE engine is indestructable. Although it has Motronic fuel injection, there was barely any vital sensors or actuators that could have prevented it to run. Everything that could make it stop, could fit into a small plastic bag (air flow meter, crank sensor, water temp sensor, ditributor cap and a fuel pump) and it was possible to replace everything on the roadside. But I have never stranded with it her. Once the starter has gone, but I could just give it push, hop in and jump start it in gear.
    The egine is of non interference, so if your timing belt breaks, no engine damage could happen. And it pulled nicely from 2600 to 5500 RPM.
    On my first longer journey I went from Hungary to Germany. After some 150 km the Check Engine light came on. The car didn't bother, just carried on, and on and on and 750 km later it arrived to the destination. And this car was hige inside although it weighted 1500 kg just like any mid size car today. I liked this car, but it had to go because it had no ABS.

    • @classic_opel
      @classic_opel Před 7 měsíci +1

      Get an Omega B, like me 😀. It has ABS and you can still get the last reliable engine, the X20SE (95% still a C20NE). You just have to do some retrofitting as usually the X20SE comes with a "poor man's interior" (I took everything off an MV6 and retrofitted to the 2.0 8v)

There were a few sold with a 1.9lt four cyl, but they wouldnt pull the skin off a baked custard pudding. When General Motors that owned both brands at the time, they commission Lotus to come up with supe up version and boy!, was it ultimate rocket on the road.
    The British press and media went haywire as normally do most times, with the UK Police, they said boy racers will go crazy.
    One test drive that appeared in 'Car Magazine' by then late Russell Bulgin put it through it paces and achieved a whopping 200mph+ on the German autobahn.

      the 1.8 Liter engines were also sold in Germany/Europe in the beginning of the A-Model 1986-1988:
      18NV - 82HP/60kW
      E18NV, replaces 18NV - 88HP/65kW
      18SV - 90HP/66kW
      E18NVR, replaces E18NV - 88HP/65kW
      18SEH - 115HP/85kW
      for Sweden & Switzerland the S18SV was used, identical with the E18NV.

      In Europe they also had several straight 6 engines. Opel offered 2.6 and 3.0 L engines which had 150 - 200 hp, depending on the version. There were also sportier versions developed by the tuning company Irmscher, but the top of the range was the Lotus Omega with 3.6 L straight six and 377 hp, that thing was a raging monster!

    Удивительно, но кузов почти в идеальном состоянии. Обычно на этих моделях кузова сгнивают до основания.

    What are you doing with all these cars after getting them back to life? Are you selling them to customers? Scrapping them or dismounting them for parts? Cheers!
