    I'm an actual owners of the tundra trd pro and I LOVE IT... for me is orange, some people see it red in pics or videos but for me is orange.. I work offroad all the time from 14 to 16 hrs a day(130 to 190 miles) and this is an excellent tuck for it.. The only down that I can say is the mpg. I get from 13 to 13.5 a gallon
    I hate Toyota, I always have but this is just an amazing truck, a truly all terrain truck..

    Wow! This is depressing. This Tundra is light years ahead of my 2001 Tundra Limited TRD. I've logged 179,000 trouble-free miles on mine, with only expenses being maintenance and gasoline. My Tundra's been a real workhorse and serves me well.
    However, this new Tundra has left me drooling. Soooo much bigger with so many modern touches. I could never afford a $46k MSRP Tundra, although it is gorgeous.
    Nice job, +Engineering Explained. Thanks for the review and the ride!

    such a nice truck. I keep watching reviews of toyota, and everyone always comments how reliable they are. I think from now on im going to be buying toyota products. I did some research on them last night, turns out they are made in America, and they have the most parts produced in America. I think its safe to say that toyota is more domestic than FORD - DODGE - GM.
    I think i will be looking at toyota from now on.

      That’s what I did and ended up buying a 2020 trd pro. You really want a Japanese vehicle, made in Japan, by the Japanese. That’s the best you can get. Americans don’t take pride in their work or craftsmanship like the old days. The Japanese do it better now

    I was expecting or hoping that you would go into some depth of the suspension setup, and possibly go into more detail about the other features associated with its all-terrain capabilities.
    Also I'm not sure whether it was because you hadn't really had a huge amount experience with off road driving and were concerned about damaging the truck, but I think you could have tested its off road capabilities a little further, on some more difficult terrain.

    It is proven that whoever buys a Tundra has a higher IQ than the other buyers. Ask anyone about their Tundra and they'll say "It has this much horsepower, this much torque, it can tow/haul this much"
    But ask anyone about their RAM, Chevy, or Ford trucks and they'll say "UH UH Duh Ugh, ITS 'MADE 'N 'Murica, DUH HEE HEE HEE"

      Mohammad Sadiqi Ford and Chevy trucks tend to be very good bang for the buck; better than Toyota anyway. That might result in a lot of hollow-headed idiots but it's all about your priorities. Want something with raw power and can take a beating? Go American. Want something family-friendly that absolutely refuses to die? Go Japanese. Want something comfortable and fancy? Go European. That being said, comfort and luxury isn't really something that belongs in trucks, and that's probably why you never see European models (and also why Europeans think Americans are so weird liking big vehicles).

    • @johnboboson2727
      @johnboboson2727 Před 9 lety +2

      Mohammad Sadiqi They don't last as long as Dodge, and Ford. My grandpa still has his ford from the 80s. The thing runs amazingly, no frame rust or anything. My neighbor had a tundra for 5 years, he said it was great until it hit that 5 year mark. There are a lot of 10 -20 year old fords and dodges still in the road. I don't see any toyota trucks from the 90s on the road ever.

    • @johnboboson2727
      @johnboboson2727 Před 9 lety +1

    Great review. I enjoyed the off-road segment and would really like to see that as part of all your reviews on cars as well. There are many times that a car is driven off-pavement for camping and similar activities and it would be nice to see that aspect on all vehicles. Also, I'm not sure what it would take, but it would be useful to get an idea of how accessible it is for major component changes and maintenance beyond an oil change. As always, great video! #offroadmustang

    You don't mention that this truck won the stock class of the Baja 1000. The only factory team to finish the race. The no locker is a bummer, but you would normally get rid of the IFS, and just throw twin lockers in front and rear with a regear to 5.29s SAS, or a long travel kit.

    The lack of steering feel may also be from the A/T tires i feel like. I drive an F-150 for work, same body style as that Tundra (4 door crew cab and short bed) and it had street tires. Steering feel is not like a car's but i could still feel it. Now it has BGF A/T tires and the steering feel is significantly lower but dirt road control is significantly higher. Just a thought.

    Why are trucks so damn expensive nowadays? $46k? The sad part is that is much cheaper than a Ford Raptor.
    With that money you could go ahead and buy an Audi, BMW, or Lexus. Trucks are meant to be cheap and utilitarian, not land yachts that can go off-road.

    • @MechRider89
      @MechRider89 Před 9 lety +2

      Fraser Davidson totally agree, people are just buying an image! There was a study done in my area last month of new vehicle sales.....67% were trucks! Look at every drive way in the CITY and you see trucks....When will people start realizing the bigger is never always better.

    • @fraserdavidson6900
      @fraserdavidson6900 Před 9 lety

      MechRider89 I totally agree. 90% of the population could live comfortably with a midsize sedan, or even better a wagon. It drives me nuts when they think they need a chevy 2500 4x4 to take the kids to school because it snows. Even worse are the ones with browning stickers on their trucks, that get squeamish around firearms.

    • @papayaman123
      @papayaman123 Před 9 lety +3

      well the utilitarian type ones are still decently priced, our fleet uses Ford F150s and they are usually about $20-25k, these are the standard bare bones ones. But you go the king ranch/3500/TRD models they are insanely priced and most of the people that buy these never use them for intended purpose.

    Engineering Explained I have never owned a 4x4 vehicle, but I have been told that you shouldn't engage 4WD for long periods of time or on pavement because the front wheels turn at a different RPM than the rear wheels. Is that true?

    • @EngineeringExplained
      @EngineeringExplained  Před 9 lety +1

      sharkheadism Comes down to locked differentials. If you have locked diffs all around, you're correct, you don't want to drive it on pavement as it will bind the drivetrain. Typically this will just result in extra tire wear, but it does put a lot of added stress on the system.

      And this:
      goo.gl/2cP5gd
      I could go on.
      Oh, and don't give me that crap about EVs polluting more than other cars. 9 of 10 scientific studies shows that is wrong, and as more and more solar and wind power is introduced, it becomes even more so. The last 1 has in every single case I have seen been funded by big oil. Yeah, they can be trusted in this matter, right?

    • @bl00dra1nn
      @bl00dra1nn Před 8 lety +1

      kodez79 i actually like electric vehicles a lot, but not for the reason you do, i like the fact that they can provide their maximum torque at 0 rpm, i like the fact that they allow for a much quieter ride. but let's not fool ourselves, if one day EVs were to completely replace internal combustion engine vehicles, that is, be mass produced, along with their heavy metal batteries and other such processes involved, we wouldn't be eliminating the problem of polluting the earth, even if by then thorium nuclear plants were the main source of power, we'd essentially be shifting the problem from an air pollution one to a soil pollution one (which in my opinion is much much worse since it can take decades to reverse, and we'd essentially be contaminating the integrality of our food along with destroying ecosystems) ...so instead of focusing on that, let's focus on expanding beyond the horizon of our planet.

      khaled webster It depends on what you think. This tundra is just like a regular tundra but has better shocks, tires, exhaust and some different aesthetics. It is almost the same price as a limited tundra which has a nice interior. Yes and no depending on what you like.

    I think Toyota needs a grab handle for the driver side and optional lever 4wd shift. like the 4 runner has. would be quicker engagement. I hate my push button 4wd in my tundra!

    Tundra pro should’ve kept 17 inch wheels on the TRD Pro lines.. with bigger tires

    Awesome review. One question. I have one just like that and I have never been able to use the remote start. Is it standard in all trd pro models? I have the same remote and I am following the instructions by the reviewer (which are very clear) and it have never work in mine. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Is there a way on the newer Tundras to have a middle seat instead of the center console and the shifting there? On my 2012 Tundra I can easily fit 3 people in the front and 3-4 people in the back row. I made a mistake on buying my 2012 Tundra crew max 4x4 really basic. I'd want a more luxurious Tundra with the TRD Off-Road package, leather seats, and the touchscreen. My local Toyota dealer has the Tundra limited edition with the TRD off-road package and everything I'm looking for. The only thing it's currently in transit and it won't be here until later this week. My other option would be a Silverado.

    Those aren't the wheels and tires the Tundra Pro comes with. From the factory it comes with 18's and Michelin AT2's which will make it ride smoother but not as good off road. In the video it has the wheel/tire package from the previous model rock warrior package.

    Thanks for sharing. I a big fan of trucks, had a Nissan Titan Nismo Edition, and now a Dodge Ram. But because of fuel costs where I live I am thinking of getting a Tacoma. Any thoughts? Would be great if you can do a video specifically dedicated to trucks and different technologies that different companies are implementing. For some reason all the bigger sellers are switching to V6 engines that put out the same HP and torque at half the fuel consumption. Cheers buddy.

      If you really want fuel economy and a truck. The ford ecoboost is a good option.

    • @TylerRaber
      @TylerRaber Před 9 lety

      ***** yeah I didn't say they would have the reliability of a Toyota lol. I just said good for fuel economy. That said a lot of the newer diesels are getting very good mpg numbers. Obviously not if you get on it or haul anything, but everyday driving looks good. Although the diesels are going to be significantly more expensive.

      My only issue with the Tacoma is that its fuel economy is not that great; the 2015 F150 has better mileage. Weird right?

    Hi there EE, Nice review.
    the auto LSD is interesting ,lots of vehicles are using this, perhaps saves them money on not fitting limited slip diffs and rely on software to control the brakes instead. subaru has gone this option and it has increased their off road capability using VDC and x drive on the later model foresters (soft off roaders not real off roaders) so much it can pass the diagonal test which many hard core 4x4's couldn't pass.
    do you guys get the 200 series land cruiser in the states? that is a very capable off roader that uses auto lsd's with great success.
    another good off roader is the mitsubishi pajaro turbo diesel
