I saw this at the cinema, way back in the 1960's. I was just a kid, but enjoyed it.
Lucky you, must be a sci-fi extravaganza for you at that time😊
Good film., I'm glàd it's been colorized 😊
I love these films. Added to my playlist. Thanks for the upload.
Couldn't believe it when I finally realized after all these years seeing this movie that it's directed by Antonio Margheretti? Nightmare Castle, Castle of Blood, Virgin of Nuremberg, etc...Italian Gothic Legend.
I lost track of the 'plot' some three minutes into it ... good sign my brain fell into a comatose state. ... Success! .. Thanks for the posting!!
Great film,so classic,thankyou!
Love the ending (even with the cheesy quote)! I appreciate the distinct music-focused style of a classic movie ending.
Fun Italian flick. I give this 4 stromboli........................
I haven’t seen this picture since Nixon was president. Not bad, although naturally my recollection of it was different. Thanks for the upload 😊
Remarkably poignant ending with the dog back at home on earth missing his Master (A.K.A. Claude Rains)...always got to me when I was a kid.
Powerful stuff!!!
Anyone know what the Island at the beginning of the movie is? The glimpses of it are very picturesque, IMHO.
Sardinia?🌝
Claude Rains looked like a puppet I was trying to see the strings
Can't understand why this movie has such such a low IMDb rating. Claude Rains' performance alone raises it above mediocrity, but it also just happens to have an interesting story that deals as much with bureaucratic red tape as it does with sc-fi. In short, an underrated gem that was ahead of its time.
In Italian, the definition of "specimen" : "some astronauts". This is an original SciFi, but the Italians who made this in 1961 didn't quite get the scientific angle very well. The movie is plodding, as well as the acting. The soundtrack is early electronic, like Forbidden Planet, but again the film makers didn't quite get the hang of when to use the special effects. The explosions are animated and funny, in a way. Still in all, it was an interesting and original film, saved somewhat by Claude Rains and his special presence. The ending is weird for a SciFi theme!
The true director's name is "Antonio Margheriti", the same of the Tarantino's Inglorius Bastards Brad Pitt's aid.
did claude rains really need the money this bad?
one of the all time great actors
I'm curious about that too. In 1960, he starred in Irwin Allen's CinemaScope remake of "The Lost World" for 20th Century Fox, and in 1962 he was part of the cast of the classic epic "Lawrence of Arabia", so what happened in 1961? I seem to remember his wife talking about him during the "Lawrence" era in a way that makes me think that he simply loved to work. Perhaps he was willing to take ANYTHING, just to be acting. He certainly looks like he's having fun in his opening greenhouse scene. (Now that I think about it, Claude Rains looks like he's enjoying himself in just about all of his films.)
He acted in movies … from what I understand “ for the love of the craft “ he certainly didn’t need the money 👍🏻
He was married 6 times and when this movie was made he was divorced 5 times. That's a lot of alimony!
Claude Rains looks like Shostakovic in this film...
Dammitall Pat what’s that
I would wood like to see you on Christmas day
OMG Claude Rains just STEALS this film. His Shakespearean acting could make a film about toilet repair into an award winning film.
I wish they used subtitles instead of dubbing. I'm sure the visible actors were a lot better than their dubs.
