He was very lucky he wasn't sent off. I remember watching this interview years ago and agreed with Jimmy Hill. That tackle resonated throughout the rest of Gazza's career.
Exactly, listening to Jimmy Hill and Des Lynham converse is almost calming, they listen to one another, they do not speak over one another, there are no "sound bite" comments being made. They are conversing in full sentences and allowing one another the time and grace to construct their thoughts - so as to provide a full and coherent explaination of their understanding of the game. This is how men speak. Nowadays, MOTD is like a bunch of lads down the pub - rowdy, rawkus, rude, bad-mannered, and impatient.
@@annonymous3948 It gets worse every year. I'd rather spend an hour watching a plank warp rather than listen to Murphy and Shearer droning on. Richards just comes across as a bunny on acid. Bring back Derek Doogun and Cloughie.
I agree Gazza was lucky not to be sent off but the other key decisions went against Spurs; Forest's goal should not have been allowed for a foul on Mabbutt; Lineker was on side when he scored and the keeper should have been sent off when he conceded the penalty.
Agree that Hill was a wonderful pundit, very unfairly maligned at the time, and these clips on CZcams show how he had great insight. He’s right about Clough here: he should have addressed the players before extra time. But he does not put enough emphasis on the big stonking factor in this game: Gascoigne should have been sent off.
It breaks my heart that Forest of this period (87-92) did not win the FA Cup. They were probably the third best team in England over those years; they finished third a couple of times and won the League Cup twice; they played with style and consistently polished diamonds who were sold to bigger clubs. Two semi-final defeats by Liverpool and one final defeat by Spurs.
Maybe the first sign that Paul Gascoigne is unable to control himself a problem he still faces in 2015. Great summing up from Des and Jimmy there as well.
Yeah that tackle basically ruined Gazza but he was a disaster waiting to happen, if it wasnt then it would have been another time. I dont remember the penalty or the dissalowed goal though
Referee Milford admitted later he wanted to send Gazza off, but the delay caused by his injury and treatment, made him hesitate and didn't sen him off. In fact for the earlier tackle itself, Gazza with the high boot should have gone. Scant consolation to Forest. Had they been 1-0 up and correctly against 10 men, I think Clough would have got his FA Cup. To add insult Gazza's sub, Nayim would play a pivotal role in Spurs triumph. I don't think Nayim would be fielded had Gazza gone.
A remarkable speaker and analyst, with a colorful career, and who will be remembered by many after his time. ...but he still hasn’t apologized for plagiarizing Sonichu!
The excuse that Roger Milford did not send Gazza off because he felt sorry for him on the stretcher was a pathetic dereliction of duty. If only Gazza had gone to Man United and not Spurs, that house for his parents may have been a price too much. Venebles indulged him rather than control him.
Hen Smithers Wtf are you talking about ?? He was back the following year and played for England in their opening match of that WC campaign against Norway !! 🇮🇪
@@roblloyd6082 I know that, but the idea that had it not happened they’d have qualified is too much of a stretch ! They were struggling before he got injured,he was even dropped for an EC Qualifer against Ireland months before ! He was making no impact on the England team post World Cup 90 ! Chances are he would have done himself another time,he was born an idiot !
Got to admit I went to every game of that cup run plus every home game & never saw Gazza be like that. Think the occasion get to much, too many eyes on him. That`s no excuse but I think that day was the beginning of Gazza`s slide into what he has become.
Gazza very unstable, even in victory. 1996 the last hurrah of Gazza on a national stage. 1990 a world class player who shone like a star. Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney
Goodness me this type of broadcasting is of different age today. It does feel a bit like an old boys club back than slightly elitist. At least the licence fee covered all this instead of the endless subscriptions today.

The good old days of punditry when ever sentence did'nt start with "LOOK" or "LISTEN" and footballers were called Matthew instead of "MATTY"
Or “so”, or is that just radio guests?
@@therespectedlex9794 More a radio thing. Basically a stalling tactic until you work out what to say.

Parodied for his looks and how he said his facts. But, my god, what he said and what he had done for the game will cement his legendary status. RIP
Jimmy is the true sonichu creator
Des was the finest football presenter
Zzzzz
Phil Cornwell definitely did his homework for Stella Street.

Jimmy Hill was worth listening to..
Master class in punditry by Hill. Marvellous, isn’t it?

ITV had Brian Moore ,BBC had Jimmy Hill ,true legends
Back then, we were blessed with highly professional and knowledgeable presenters/pundits who knew the game inside and out.

Good ole Jimmy and Des having a chinwag. Legends.
Gazza was never the same after that reckless tackle - who was the linesman for the goal chalked off- did he not know the offside rule?
Ah the days of real football presenters.
Jimmy and Sonichu could have won the FA Cup by themselves!
Who Would Have Predicted...That Spurs Woul Not Win The Cup Again ...For 33 YEARS + 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
33 years and counting
Two reds for Gazza
Hill should have FOCUSED ON JUST ONE THING - the scandalous failure to send Gascoigne up which transformed the entire game.

Yes, both were reds. He shd have gone for the first bad tackle.

Farewell Jimmy.
if Gascoigne was sent off the course of English football might have been different. the national team would have reached USA 94 for sure.

Gazza is IMO one of the greatest English players of all time but he should've been sent off in this match.
