Another week, another event! This time I was photographing a Golf Outing at Lancaster Host Golf Club in Lancaster PA. This event wasn't a money making event, rather a benefit for Lionville Fire Co. I photographed the event to give the sponsors some great photos of themselves having a great time.
My video rig was much easier to use than having a tripod. Obviously I would not be able to use it without something to attach it to like my golf cart, so its more of a specialty setup. The Hoodman/D3s/lenses/Sony Microphones are my standard for audio and video. They work great...only exception is when I get too far from the camera the mic gets fuzzy as you see at a few points in the video. I am guessing the range is about 50'.
Photography
Events like this give you great exposure and let people know you're out there. Every time you shoot you don't need to get paid, so keep that in mind. Make sure to have a stack of business cards handy, I handed out quite a few. Make sure they are attractive and don't use any of the premade designs, everyone has seen them 100 times. I design my own with photos or logos on them and have them printed at gotprint.com.
I hope you enjoyed this video - keep the comments coming and keep shooting!
and yet another great instalment from CAZILLO.....DOT COM!
love your work big fella...keep em comin!
Great shots! I am positive the players will like them.
Clean, not over-developed. Nice!
Greg, I love that you're out in your environment showing us what you are actually doing and explaining why you're doing what you're doing.
Very interesting again. Those practical videos are just exquisit and I think you really found a market gap in CZcams here. So keep them coming!
Great video from a great guy. Thanks so much for posting these
Greg man, what you create is priceless... I don't know how I could thank you in behalf of all of us viewers for the experience you are sharing! I doubt there is anything anyone is doing similar to what you do for us, and a lot of them have tried. You lecture so much with so much quality that it surprises me every time how your videos could be better and better all the time. As someone mentioned I'm so glad you are doing this under your brand, cause I feel like I know you and you are not a fonie!
Big hello from Ireland Greg...love your videos....very instructional and a pleasure to view...continued success an best wishes fro the Emerald Isle!!!
Nice work Greg...keep'em coming!
These event videos provide a great insight into 'real world' photography work. Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
These out-in-the-field videos are worth GOLD! Keep up the great work!
Fantastic video. Really like these photo-session vids! Keep em comin!
this video is sweet!! keep em coming.well done
Nice work Greg!!...keep the good videos!
ooooh that rig / set up is wicked!!!!!
Great video again!
Fantastic video! This is exactly what we wanna see and learn from!
I'll echo a lot of people's thoughts here and say I am REALLY enjoying your channel Greg. I didn't think there was much that you could post about photography that would be new material. However, these "live" look-ins on your shoots are really great stuff! Keep up the great work!
I'll be shooting a charity tournament...so I thought to research how to cover a tournament. Everything has rules you know. Thanks for the insight and tips. I love the rig idea. I was going to use a GoPro in some way, but your way is sooooo much better. I think I have all I need. I'll study your set up again.
Excerlant video Gregg.
Great video Mr. Cazillo:)
Awesome videos, cool to see it fine in real time, just discovered your videos, thanks for the awesome information!
Love these videos very great information. The videos where you kind of are just in your room and using your board like the histogram video im not to crazy for just cuz its like a classroom setting. But make more of these keep up the great work I loved this video.
Loved the video Greg. Great tips and love seeing you in action. Thanks again for creating all these wonderful and informative videos for us! I'm glad your not putting out videos of you jumping around in a t-shirt going... "YEAHHH!"
@Joshlama Its wireless, the photo of the video rig shows the receiver on top of the camera with two antennas.
Sorry about the extra black at the end everyone! Not sure what happened on this video...my bad.
@nwarken make sure you know your exposures well especially if using flash and get all your gear cleaned inside and out including lenses, bags, cameras and the sensor of each camera.
@bratvlad Yes that's what exposure compensation is for, more or less light in a scene. I did use it and often do when shooting aperture priority.
Hi Greg, it would be great if you could make a video of a wedding scenario describing what lenses and aperture settings you use for each type of shot, portrait, groups etc. Keep up the great work. The Old Nikonian. UK
Liked it Greg.. gave me some idea's thanks :)
wow greg u have a great video again! i can see your future in youtube... :)
@goga56 As I mentioned in the video I used exposure compensation to adjust my exposure
-Jacobo Shemaria Capuano- Que buenas fotos
@geoker55 Yes lens is 5.5 lb and the body is 2.7 lb.
Greg, loving the videos and taking us out on your photo shots, awesome mate. Any reason you didn't take the photos of the golfs in portrait to get them totally in the frame?
Any reason you went with the Sony UWPV1 Lavalier Microphone over Sennheiser lav or any of the others? Never seen that one before.
what tripod and head were you using?
@TomShootsPhoto I like to vary it. I tend to concentrate more on the person than anything else.
Great vid, as always. VERY informative and instructive. If I had one question, its why the monopole? It it because the lens is so hefty? Thanks for these videos and all the great information you deliver in a hands-on way.
Hi Greg, great video I'm learning alot. My question you said you used In A mode, did you have to use plus and minus EV compensation at any point? I find that sometimes I need to just slightly slow my shutter speeds to get more exposure in my shot. Thanks.
@RyanMarisMakeupx3 with or without AF? Probably just because its an entry level camera.
@gregorycazillo Thanks for your opinion . I found that the club leads the eye in and out of the picture.
So Greg which AF mode were you using? Btw awesome video keep them coming.
Just a question, how do you get the lapel mic to connect to the camera?
@proTest443 I use a Gitzo Monopod
@valdezapg I let some of them blow out a little, could also be the video processing.
ive got a trip to japan planned in about a month. what should i do to prepare? (photography wise)
Hey Greg! This was a really cool video, you got some awesome shots. I noticed you took multiple shots in a very little amount of time. On my d3000, even on the multiple shot setting... it still takes a bit after i press the shutter to take the picture, let alone take multiple. Any tips? Thanks! :)
@wadermanuk its been on my list forever, just need to find the right bride!
Since we are on the topic of sports. Could you explain why you will see some photographers at professional sporting events with Pocket Wizards attached to their cameras? Where do they keep the flash?
@M3mPHiS Not sure thats necessary, it would be too repetitive since its all the same.
is it high contrast or do you overexpose on purpose? white shirts have very little detail
What software do you use for video since I know you are a windows guy?
PS I was crushed with the split but know I feel as if Im learning twice as much. Thank you from your days with the Fro & now on your own site. You Rock brother
@Afffinity some events have strobes built into the stadium, just watch for the flash during a hockey game or basketball game. Other events like baseball the photog may use the pocketwizard to trigger other cameras.
they see me rollin'...
@ErnieCosmo That's an AFS2 and yes it was difficult to find.
@nljuba sorry about that, not sure what happened.
Which metering mode are you using?
Again a great video!! I'm only noticed that the videos are not very sharp at 720p (in FullScreen mode).
what monopod are you using?
first! I like the end of the video by the way... [being ironic]
It was very helpful, thanks. Maybe you could have added the specs of each photo (ISO, f/, ...). Might have been helpful for some even though you explained it at the end how you shot it.
Although I can't say this video was very useful in terms of techniques and tricks, it was relaxing and enjoying. What was all about last two minutes of darkness?
@zeptome assignment was cover the event, so yes random.
None in particular, it just seemed like a good product and I've been quite happy with it. I've heard only good things about Sennheiser too.
@aidanhill I varied it, sometimes yes sometimes no.
@gregorycazillo hey greg is it really necessary to go out and spend alot of money on a really good monopod? or is it okay to just buy something thats not too expensive... btw: im using a sigma 70-200 with my d3100
gr8 video, but what was that gap at the end? :)
Greg , one question . Isn't it better to leave the club in the picture ?
@gregorycazillo i only have an 18-55 :( . I like the tighter shots so i had to get up real close to them ....I noticed it didn't work out , so i left earlier . Thanks 4 the response.
check the article link, its in there on my website.
@JLZfilms All photos were edited a little.
@DarkShinigami24 I think mind was about $200 but I've had it for about 10 years. If you buy quality it will last you and then you won't have to buy the better one later anyway.
@luczw not sure why, I did everything the same as always! Odd...
i was shooting golf , i only had the 18-55. you really need a longer lens, not only me but the golfers where also very uncomfortable.
I wish I could afford these kind of lenses :(
@TomShootsPhoto I wouldn't even attempt to shoot golf without a 70-200 2.8 lens...
@gregorycazillo Ooops! I tried to delete that comment earlier. I'm pretty sure I figured it out. Thanks :)
@Giorgosm10 AFC
I'm still watching pass 14:00
@wadermanuk LOL.
Oh man! Jared polin can go to h*ll!! You rock man! More videos like this! Weddings, sports and stuff like that. Not just "edit this weeks rawfile", that really sucks. Greetings
@brandonbush1 I would give them for free and use to try and get the job next year.
Got to admit, I have photographed quite a few ugly brides over the years and had the odd comment "you have made me look fat" lol. 'No! its the fries and burgers that made you look fat.
Very dangerous to be that much in line with the shot. Maybe 15 degrees from the tee is safer
ether its me or this video is badly encoded.
