I have not had any problems accessing most lower end sports, but when you reach college and pro level, certain areas are nearly impossible to get access. I have found that you need an assignment from a newspaper or magazine editor in order to get a media pass. Simply just asking as a free lancer never works for me.

Is it ever too late to start if you wanted to make some good money?
I was told if you can't say anything nice then say nothing at all. Ill just leave the young photographers out there read into that what you will. Keep searching.
Sports Photography is awesome! And a terrible way to make money! I really wish more people would mention how this hobby is incredibly expensive and can make 0 to very little money. The gear even used is astronomical. Icon Sportswire mentioned in the video just sells your photos on other sites and takes a 50% commission. So you are getting a 25% commission if you are lucky. And when you are out on those NFL sidelines, there will 100 other photographers, many of whom are dentists/layers/plumbers with $30,000 of gear who don't give a rat's @ss if they make a penny.
And 10 years from now, there will be no phototographes at pro events. The events will just pull still photos from the video they are shooting.
