    Everyone wants to learn studio lighting! It can be the pinnacle of photography: being able to control every nuance of a photograph from the quality of light to the person's pose. Control also requires the experience to create a good image. My video today I go over how to get started in studio photography with building your own lighting kit and some basic posing techniques I use on a regular basis.

    Greg, just wanted to say that I know sometimes it feels good for others to recognize you and your hard work. That being said, thank you for your hard work and for all the things you do to further the photographic community. I saw you on Jared's stuff a long long time ago and I had NO idea you had your own stuff. I'm not sure what all happened between you guys, but its none of my business either way. The point is, your stuff is great and I respect and appreciate all you've done and continue to do

    @desmondlaugh The best ones are stools that adjust by spinning, I have both fixed and nice ones. Even a few $20 ones from Walmart. Posing tables just depend what you need, the more adjustability the better.

    @kauxkaux I've been researching getting my first strobe (besides my SB-600) and softbox setup. I've messaged several strobists on flickr and heard back from a couple.
    What I've concluded is:
    Get an Alien Bees B800 strobe
    A really good softbox; the bigger the better. Rectangle for single people, octobox for single or double.
    The cybersync transmitter and receivers
    And if you're going to be shooting away from power/an extension cord, get the vegabond mini battery.

    Thanks, Greg! You should do a few more of these, since finding, good, reliable and constant info about strobes, softboxes, ect. seems to be much harder than other photography subjects online! Going to order my first setup this week.
    Make sure to cover transmitters and receivers next time; people will probably order their first setup and be stuck after they get it! Haha.

    Damn, this is what I was looking for when I stumbled across Jared. Sorry but photo of the week is boring now, only thing I learned from him, is how to edit, and how to add a ton of contrast to an image. In no way have I learned to take a picture from him. I am a professional and do this for a living. This is the good shit! Keep the video's coming!

    @movania89 From what I've read, food product photography is also alway done with natural light, so use window light.

    @Deweeyy I was in the model position, didn't you follow the link to my website to see the lighting diagram? Once again this is a BASICS video.

  • @cazillo
    @cazillo  Před 13 lety

    @1986Chaitanya Not sure that would be too popular. If I was to shoot such a thing it would probably be with natural light, no strobe or artificial light at all.

    @tonecontrol Před 13 lety

    @gregorycazillo hey greg thanks for the answer, im a big fan of your channel and i do a bit of video too but music is my thing as you can see on my channel. Well it might be the white balance on your video camera, but to me it looks like a yellow light pointing at you instead of white light?

  • @kauxkaux
    @kauxkaux Před 13 lety

    I am going to buy my first light. What is the minimun power you would recommend for my first (and only for the moment) light that will also be my main light?

  • @lallaboy1
    @lallaboy1 Před 12 lety

    For studio / portrait photography do you recommend the continuous lighting or would you recommend to use speed lights through the same setup (3 point lighting setup)?

  • @Deweeyy
    @Deweeyy Před 13 lety

    i would've prefered if you showed the equipment more close up, or atleast showed that fill light behind your camera. to give a better view of a total studio, now we just get the part where the model would be ;). walk around with your camera a bit

  • @tonecontrol
    @tonecontrol Před 13 lety

    is that white light? looks yellow to me

    @gregorycazillo i knew that, and read the whole page on your website. it just seemed a nice idea. but i meant no harm with my comment. it was a great video and i liked it very much. just thought i would give some constructive critisism. :)

    That doesn't really fit into a 'basics' video.

  • @VexedFilms

    $150 isn't really "inexpensive", perhaps "affordable" is better.

  • @darbycarpenter3032
    @darbycarpenter3032 Před 6 lety

    I don't think that this is a "basic" video. You are like sb this and sb that. Strobe, Umbrella, soft box?????? I have no idea what the heck you are talking about. On to a video that I can understand. You should seriously thing about re-titling this video.
