I used a size 12/14 microtex needle with coats & clark all purpose thread, 3.5 stitch length, a radial hand punch on the smallest setting for the holes, size 7mm rivets, and sewed with a Juki TL2010q. My cork is from Fabric Funhouse.

This was so incredibly awesome! I'm a beginner and this was my very first bag. I did it! I'm a big boy! Thank you for being so clear and kind.
Way to go, I’m proud of you!!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
Another really great pattern and an awesome tutorial.
Thank You Nicole

Thanks for the ironing technic of the inner zipper. That is something I will start doing.

That boxed corner is really clever!
Top Notch Instruction!
Gorgeous beautiful bag
That boxed corner trick is nice!!
This was really good for me cos lots of basic tips. You are such a great teacher, I sometimes just watch you instead of a film!! 🤪

Love your video's - they are so informative. Thank you. I have picked up so many useful tips today.
Awesome, glad to have you here!
Love the bag! Bought the pattern, will try to make it soon! Thank you SewGnar! ❤️👍
Awesome, I hope you love the pattern too!
The ironing of the slip pocket is great - suggestion from someone who has been sewing for 40 years and has taught many a class about ironing vs pressing - Steam - you need steam to set the seams- a bit will also help the fabric relax into the shape you want and hold so when we add our zipper it will be perfect. Just a suggestion that I use. Great bag and love the pattern!
Love Love Love your videos... I am super finicky about details..and I am glad you are soooo precise ..it makes me confident and can't wait to make it...
Ohhh yeah, the older I get the more finicky I am too!

Very cute bag. Just what I have been looking for...not too big, not too small.....just the right size. Thanks for the excellent video. I learned several new techniques.
So happy you enjoyed it 🥰
I just finished my first mini box tote. It is so refreshing to find that your patterns are written so the lining is a perfect fit. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed the pattern ❤️
Thank you so much for the time and effort in making this video. I also enjoy the kitty and puppy and all the good vibes. I love the pattern and have been trying to figure out how to do a free edge cork or vinyl with a cotton lining. You have so many great tips too that are so useful and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you.
Aww wow, thank you so much Marsha!
I love when your cats join you!!
They won’t leave me alone 😂😂😂
This was a really fun make. I made one in vinyl and another in cork. The way you box the corners is brilliant! (I know, thank you, Lauren) Everything just lines up perfectly! Thank you for the pattern.
So happy you enjoy it!
As a newb to making bags, I certainly appreciate your tutorial. Very appropriately paced and easy to understand. So much so that I purchased my second pattern from ya. 😉 It doesn't feel intimidating at all! Thanks so much for a great pattern!
Aww so sweet! Can’t wait to see your bag!!
LOVE THIS BAG!!
Ah thanks!
Great tutorial, just purchased the pattern and looking forward to making this bag.
Hope you enjoy it!
Love this pattern and your video! Thank you. The purple cork is awesome too!
So glad you enjoyed the video!
BEAUTIFUL Bag!!! I love it!
Thank you so much!
Love the way you box the corners!
So many brilliant things about this sweet little bag. The zipper panel, the Lauren tricks - but my favorite is that you designed the lining to be smaller for a better fit. Simple, brilliant and beautiful. Thank you.
Aw thanks! I do that with all of my patterns, I can’t stand a baggy lining!
Thanks for the excellent instructional video! I just made my first and it will not be the last. I chose to use interfaced fabric for my zip panel, not thinking about raw edges at the top. I decided on adding a matching bias tape on the liner and it turned out beautifully. I have never made a drop in lining that fit so perfectly, I am shocked. My strong dislike for drop in lining is why it took me so long to make it. I wish I could upload a picture for you!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the pattern! I grade all of my likings to fit inside the exterior, I can’t stand a saggy lining! You can join my Facebook group and post pics, link in description box!
You are very good at teaching 💕
Thank you!
Thanks so much for this tutorial, Nicole. I made one and I love it! I had been worried about working with cork, but you gave me the confidence and know-how to do it. Now I'm addicted to cork fabric ;-) Next up: a tall Taisteal Tote. I love your patterns. Keep 'em coming :-)
Aww yay!! Welcome to the dark side 😈
Wow... OK I had said I wasn't going to buy any more patterns .... but .... just 1 more .... I've just bought a lot of cork as I think I'm addicted to sewing with it... your tutorials are amazing and very helpful... thank you from a rather wet n windy West wales in the UK... 👍😁❤
Aww I’m glad you like my pattern and videos!! I hope you stay warm over there 🥶
Just finished my first one! Made it in cork and your amazing video and pattern were a breeze to follow, so happy my new VEGAN bag. 😍. A friend likes it so much that I have to make her one. Thank you!
Oh yay, that’s so awesome!!
Again an excellent video!! Thank you!
Love this mini tote! I love working with cork and just made your Triskele Wallet after watching the tutorial of it with you and Lauren. It came out beautiful along with edge coating. Now on to making this adorable tote to match my wallet. Thank you for the great tutorials.
You are so welcome!
I’ve just completed this project and I’m really pleased with the results. I love your style of teaching, no fancy editing just follow along with you. The bonus for me is I don’t have to keep rewinding I just pause so I can catch up occasionally! I’m going to tackle some other projects now! I’m a 64yo guy in the Uk and my partner is going to love this bag for Christmas- thank you!

LOVED the video, you made it seem very simple and now I'm not so worried, the way you explained the strap was more simple and informative than anyone else.
I hope to see more videos, maybe you'll make that mini ncw you mentioned in the big ones video ;)
I have a list of videos to film and the mini NCW is on it, so one of these days 😆

thank you for the tutorial, love your 4 leged assistance :)
They’re the best!
Thanks so much; I learned a lot. I'm eager to make one with the same purple and cork!
Happy sewing!
I luv it.
Thanks!
6/29/2020 Nicole you did a great job. Hope I get brave and try to make one.
You can do it!
Your work is amazing. Please keep sharing. I really want to try this bag but am concerned my machine might struggle.
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised! The thickest seam it has is the strap anchor to the lining and exterior, however if you go slow or even handcrank over those sections I think you’ll be just fine!
Great bag, great tutorial. Where can I find that rivet set ruler please? I've seen others but not one like yours, which looks awesome. Thanks.
Tops & Bobbins!
I finished my bag today
Awesome!
It makes me feel so much better that you also get nervous when you sew the top!!!
Topstitching is always nerve wracking!
I loved making this bag! Thanks for the great pattern. I have not found where you show or tell us how to finish the ends of the zippers though. Can you please explain what to do here please?
In this video I used a zipper that didn’t need to be finished as it came ready to go, but you can use zipper cap ends to finish any zipper (which is what I use on my zipper by the yard zippers).
This is a great pattern! Can you tell me if the glue affects your needle or machine? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and skills! BRAVO!
Hi Mary,‘I don’t have any issues at all with the glue gumming up my needles!
Love your bag very professionally done. Thank you for sharing. I am very new to bag making can I ask you what material did you use outside. Mainly the purple one. Is it a vinyl? Or a faux leather?
Hi Lilette, I always use cork! Check out the description box below the video for all the info!
I love this tutorial! Thank you so much for introducing me to sewing with cork fabric. Could you tell me where I might find a rivet template like yours and a rivet press? Works much easier than what I have been doing. If anyone knows where these can be found in Canada that would be great.
I got my template from tops and bobbins in the states… not sure about a rivet press in CA, I’m sorry
Emmaline Bags just got some rivet presses in.
Love the contrast in colors and texture of cork! Natu I ask where you order your labels. And if they have other options than cork. I cannot believe how difficult it is to locate some I'd of the bells and whistles for our creations.
All of that info is in my description box usually, but my tags are from All This Wood on Etsy.
Just came across your tutorial. Your demonstration of boxing the corners is magical. Thanks for sharing. What is the glue that you are using. Thanks again.
That’s beacon fabri-tac!
GM! Just purchased your pattern for this crossbody bag. Love your very detailed tutorial! One question pls: how do I adapt the pattern to use cotton canvas for the bag body? (I still use cork for the bag bottom.) Instead of the raw top edge? Thanks! 🤗
The pattern is written for raw edge material so adapting it for materials that will fray would take some imagination. I suppose you could try to fold over and iron a seam on the canvas and then slide the lining inside and carry on as normal.
SewGnar Thank you! Exactly! If I fold over an extra inch of fabric on the exterior panel when cutting it, and then follow the original finishing with a Topstitch finish, that should work. 👍🏻 Love your tutorial! 🤗
Love your tutorial, I’m working on one now and I’m finding out my glue is not working for me, could you please tell me the name of fabricfuse or glue your using, thank you
It’s beacon fabri-tac!
What are the two glue that you use? And for the purple cork fabric you use, would I be able to use quilt cotton fabric?
I have a video on the different glues, titled “Let's Chat: Different Glues and Edge Finishing for Cork”; find that on my channel! And the pattern is written for a raw edge textile so you’d have to figure out how to complete the top edge with quilting cotton.
Where did you get your rivet presser. Im looking in amazon but they dont come with the double rivets.
I got mine from GoldStar Tools. The rivets are called double capped rivets, KraftHaus Supply has them (use code SEWGNAR for 10% off)!
Just watched your Mini Tote video and have learned at least 10 new things. Thank you so much. Question: Do you do everything (except initial cutting, I am guessing) sitting down? Except for actual sewing, I am always on my feet and it can get exhausting. Maybe I need to rework my sewing area.
Generally yes, I’m a sitter. My new cutting table will be 43” tall though so I’m about to be on my feet more! And I’m so glad you learned some stuff from watching my video!
Hi, I’m new to bag making. Please explain the purpose of burning the fabric edges. Thx
To remove any fraying.
Hi there. I bought the pattern for the bag plus the key fob wallet. I am trying to figure how much cork of the main color to get for the bag plus the wallet. I am having a brain cramp. If I get a 18 x 54” piece will I have enough for both? Thanks
I’m not sure, you’d have to lay them both out and see, but my off hand guess would be yes...
I know you primarily use cork, however I’ve got this absolutely gorgeous leather! Do you know if I can leave raw edge along top of bag and along the zipper panels? Thank you
I’ve seen them made with leather so I would think so, I’d finish edges with edge paint to make it all look nice and tidy!
@@SewGnar Thank you
How would it look with just one print of cork fabric? I am having a hard time coordinating another color
I've seen it done in the same colors (top and bottom) and it look SO great!! Give it a go!
I
Im new to riveting , which dye did you use for the rivets? I think I only have the medium one with the 8mm rivets
I have a 9mm wide die set and use it for all my rivets 9mm and smaller
Great bag, like all your patterns, but I am not sure about my success with drop in lining
Never know until you try! With the top edges being the same textile it makes it easier to sew. I also created the lining pattern pieces to fit inside the exterior nicely so in the scheme of drop in linings it’s should be relatively easy compared to most!
Great video. Your an excellent teacher. Just one question. You use a lot of glue in your bag making,, which I like. I currently use tape. I see your glue is in a larger size which is good for the amount that you use. The glue I have bought comes in a one once bottle. It works very well, but would be too expensive to use in the manner you do. I tried to catch the name of the glue you use, but I was unable to. Can you please share that?
Beacon Fabri-Tac is my go to glue for everything! Happy you’re enjoying my videos 🥰
Absolutely love this bag. I want to make exactly as you did but cannot find a zipper in that color. Would you mind sharing where the zipper was purchased? Thank you !
Hmm it’s been a long time since I made this bag and now I use zipper by the yard… I used to get all my zippers from ZipIt so maybe try them out!
Thank you !!!
Top notch instructions! Clear and easy to follow. Love your work! The only thing I am not sure about is what is going on with the ends of the zipper tape? Is it supposed to be hanging out like that? There is a lot of work that goes into these. I wonder do you sell your finished pieces? And if so, where? Looking forward to ordering a pattern.
I attach a zipper end cap to my loose end of the zipper and let it hang into the back once it’s completed. I do sell my completed bags, I have lots in stock but they’re not listed on my site. You can email me and I’ll send photos of what I have sewgnarly@gmail.com
Where did you get your Teflon foot? I have the jukitl2010q
I got it off amazon a while ago!
I am cutting down a 14 inch zipper for this project. I presume I will use zipper tabs to help. Do you suggest cork or fabric for the tabs? And what should be the actual length that I cut my zipper?
I’ve always used a straight up 9” zipper but I would think if you cut it to 10” or 11” then added cork tabs it would work well!
SewGnar Thank you Nicole!
Great tips! I love the lining fabric you used. Is that Anna Maria Horner fabric? Are you a AMH fan?
It looks like it could be by her, but I’m not sure! I do like her fabric designs!
