    Wonderful video. I learned a lot and don’t have to worry about ruining my project from the get-go. My cork fabric is from Spain and from your description, it seems of good quality. It doesn’t feel dry but is quite stretchy in one direction like reg fabric. It’s nicely flexible. I’m it using to make placemats.
    One thing you didn’t mention was pre washing.
    My guess is that I don’t have to. Is that the case? I’ve read that it is washable but the water temp should be 90 degrees F or cooler.
    Please help.

    Best video on CZcams out, Michelle was on point, very informative with a wonderful personality. She is a joy to watch. I loved all the wallets and demonstrations. None of her information dragged around different corners of Bla Bla, I stayed focused on what she was teaching, Again very, informative and packed a lot of great information. please Michelle put out more videos like this and maybe even some tutorials… I’m gonna try to Google your store and buy some cork and some of those patterns…. thank you again great job,- Lisa Hope-Wilton CT.

    I just spent the past 3 days working on a fun Noodlehead pattern that SewGnar uses. Of course before I purchased a lot of expensive cork, I decided to run over to Hobby Lobby and try theirs. It is pretty thick and doesn't feel too terrible (but what do I know since I obviously have not used anything else.) I even dry brushed it with acrylic paint to change the color and it seemed to take that well. I gave it a coat of Golden Matte varnish to seal in the color. I made the bag and just now as I turned it right side out - the corners and all the areas near the seams cracked all to pieces. I actually was making 6 of them to sell. What an enormous waste of time, zippers, interfacing and inspiration. I was really enjoying working with the cork and had a lot of things worked out as far as using a zipper tab, stitch length, seam allowances for better fitting lining and all that jazz. Anyway, thanks for your very informational video. I will check out your cork.

      @Nani K It's very disappointing. The JoAnns cork is better and I am now making cross body bags - half cork and half interfaced cotton. It seems to work much better in the top half. The boxed corners really do a number on the cork. JoAnn's cork fabric does not seem to split at the zipper either. I bought some cork fabric from Sallie Tomato but it is just too expensive if you want to make these to sell. It is nice though. There is definitely a learning curve. I bought half a yard from JoAnn's with the 50% off coupon to test it and it works pretty well for me.

    I just ordered cork fabric. The print is beautiful, BUT the fabric is very thin and almost see through. There is no backing. Should I even try it for bag or wallet? Can i add a backing? I am fairly new to sewing and I really like the cork idea. Will i need to purchase cork fabric from another source?

    Hi thank you so much for such details could you please tell how do they actully color cork from natural colors to green, red or any other ?

    • @FabricFunhouse
      @FabricFunhouse  Před 3 lety +3

      Good question! Once the cork is adhered to the fabric backing, the dye is sprayed onto the still porous cork. A water-based sealant is then added (at least for the cork we sell) and heat-sealed for durability. Hope that helps explain it...maybe that should be the next video :)

    Thanks for this video. I’m in Australia and I bought cork from my local quilt shop. I’m not convinced it’s “real” as it has the feel of paper! I really don’t think it will stand up to being a bag.

    • @FabricFunhouse
      @FabricFunhouse  Před 3 lety

      The cork layer may very well be real, but if the backing is super thin you can definitely have stretching/warping of it so I might not use it for the exterior of the bag. I really wish shipping to Australia was more reasonable - we've definitely had requests for our cork fabric there!

      You can but it isn't really necessary if you're using our cork fabric, as it is already coated with a highly durable water-based sealant.

    • @FabricFunhouse
      @FabricFunhouse  Před 3 lety +1

      I wouldn't recommend doing it to the cork side. It is SUPER thin (not like what is on cork boards & coasters) and it can warp with that kind of heat. Over on our Makers FB group, someone did adhere it to the fabric side as lining for an eyeglass case without issue. You could always do some testing and get back to us! Hope that helps!
