- After Sammy Blais laid a big open ice hit on Alex Kerfoot in tonights Arizona Coyotes at St. Louis Blues game, Liam O'Brien took exception going after Blais. He talked some smack from the bench and sure enough, after Blais bumped him along the boards just minutes later, O'Brien absolutely lost it. He went after Blais, cross checked him so hard he broke his stick and after Blais still didn't engage, he threw his gloves off and chased him down like a mad man as the two got all tangled up. O'Brien would get a double minor for the ordeal as the Coyotes, the most penalized team in the NHL got down to business. I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

I like how Blais's reaction was almost like "bro... I'm just trying to play hockey here".
Exactly, he ain’t playing foot ball ⚽️
As the saying goes; “I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out”
O'Brien was really out there playing with emotion tonight. Like a hungry toddler up past their bedtime.
not even flinching is insane. Also classic Dumba taking bad penalties, glad he not on the Wild anymore; great guy but man he pissed off us Wild fans with his play
I see hits exactly like that all the time and no penalty
It actually hurts less if the stick breaks lol if the stick didn't break that would hurt like hell lol
*Classic Dumbo 😂
He got a too many men penalty too. Coming off the ice and the puck wraps around the boards to hit him in the ankle. 🤦🏼♂️
A real Dumba55 moment
It was funny when O’Brien tried to fight nick foligno and got absolutely shit on
He's fought Foligno 3 times in the last year, and Foligno has taken care of him all 3 times lol
Foligno fucked up O'Brien's face pretty good. And the funny part is that O'Brien tried to sucker punch Foligno. O'Brien got what he deserved. But unfortunately he got the last laugh, a free goal from the puck bouncing off his skate and into the net later that game.
Hilarious how Blais didn't even pay any attention to the fact someone was trying to fight him.🤣
Yeah, 100% guarantee he knew that he was being chased and just let Brien attack him knowing it would give them the PP.
Because that is not the game of Blais, not into fighting.
The modern NHL enforcer's secret weapon: The element of surprise!
Used to posture up and nod and drop the lids, the state of things now is laughable.
Shades of Todd Bertuzzi
If you really think Blais couldn’t hear O’Brien screaming at him and challenging him, you’ve obviously never played hockey 😂🤣 hard to square up when the guy you challenge buries his head in the sand. Don’t wanna fight? Don’t hit a fighter. Not hard.
@@MacAttack1776 This is what I thought too. Like Blais didn't know O'Brien was all over him already after the Kerfoot hit.
Running like a B and not answering the bell, the "cheap shot artists" secret weapon
O'Brien has a chemical imbalance. Going psycho/stalker on Blais for something that wouldn't even be boarding in pee wee. Should have gotten a 10 for that.
Seems to me that if you completely abandon the play just to hunt down someone who doesn't, you should be ejected
Damn. 0/7 on the PP is not a number you want to see for your team.
It’s been so awful, the power play has historically been so solid for the blues
13 teams have more shorthanded goals than the Blues have power play goals. Including the Blues themselves! Not hard when you literally only have ONE power play goal!
The blues PP% is like 3%, which is on track to be one of the worst ever
@@Wayf4rer it's at the point where I hope they don't draw penalty's because it gives the other team momentum.
@@Wayf4rer You’re right! The 2020-21 Anaheim Ducks have the worst power play percentage of all-time at 8.9% according to StatMuse. With the Blues standing at 3.6% early in this season, they could challenge the record if they don’t start figuring it out.
Classic Liam O’Brien. Fake tough is the best way to describe him.
Could not agree more!
Kind of, he's definitely not a coward. I mean he squared up with Reaves, but he's definitely a mediocre at best fighter and should keep his gloves on lol
@@dillonbija9592 Yah, you’re right. Fake tough isn’t the best way to describe him, he’s more or less a rat but in a less stingy way than Tkachuk or Marchand. Problem with O’Brien is that he is known to try and get a jump on some guys before they can even drop their gloves. Dude is a pussy for that.
Dude… he’d put you in a coma 😂🤣
Fake tough guy in the NHL, as you type this from your keyboard... LOL
O'Brien going after Blais and being ignored reminded me of Bertuzzi going after Steve Moore.
The only difference, Moore should have answered for his hit on Naslund.
I was thinking the same thing.
@@btgkg9639 nah you have to admit, bertuzzi was 100 percent in the wrong that night. Moore is a coward yes, but not a criminal like Bertuzzi is now.
O'Brien should be gone for two games.
How is that not a 10 min major ?
There is no such thing as a 10 minute major. I don’t think this situation warrants a 5 minute for fighting as it would be a major penalty. But I’d probably say double minor for roughing, cross checking and a 10 minute misconduct.
thank you for covering the blues 🙏
That puck drop was kind of insane.
Awesome to see the Blues organisation pay tribute to our Veterans. Class act.
Don cherry was right about the poppies all along
It is good to see but don’t give the Blues organization to much credit cause I would think each NHL team has their own Military Appreciation Night. I know the Bruins just had theirs at The Gahden.
"The Coyotes, the most penalized team in the NHL this year with an average of 16 minutes." Meanwhile in Montreal with their 21 minutes....
Love seeing Blues content!
The O'Brian "fight," which is the understatement of the year, is the most hilarious thing I've seen all year thus far.
1:38, one of the best dumb and dumber shots I've ever seen.
*dumb and dumba
"For a double minor" bro what how tf you get just a double minor from that????
Happened again in the Kraken-Avs game tonight. Bowen Byrum picked a fight with Vince Dunn, both guys confetti gloves and trade punches: Dunn gets two for "roughing" and Byrum gets a double minor, also for "roughing" though they didn't say the extra was for instigating, because there's no instigator penalty for roughing? Byrum and Dunn both seemed super confused in the box.
Crazy set of events alright... nice breakdown of the game...
Type of energy you would NEVER see from an Oilers' player lol
Blais was a champ. That 0-7 powerplay though... 🤦♂🤦♂
Blais would have made OBrien a cripple if he would have known what was going on.
This is the definition of a Fly on the back of a Lion.
My man did what he needed too. Good for him.
Kerfoot never would have had that level of support in Toronto.
my exact thoughts when I saw this. there needs to be backlash
He needed to look like a complete clown? Thats a weird thing to need to do during a hockey game.
@@btgkg9639 Better than standing there picking up sticks like a janitor
@btgkg9639 maybe if Blais didn't pussy out, man up, and be accountable, O'Brien wouldn't have looked like a "clown" as you say. Typically, if you run somebody, you expect the other team to come after you.
Wasn’t o brien stuck on the capitals AHL team for the longest time? Always wondered why he never got called up but I get it now
O'Brien needs a ride back to his tent in the Appalachians.
Modern Nhl become ridiculous as guys are trying to fight players after clean hits. It has an negative affect on the game with less hits during game play.
The blues need a complete overhaul of their power play, it’s been really bad.
Blues fan who hasnt seen much of the games so far, but we havent had an ovechkin like slapper guy since hull maybe? They usually dont set up with guys on their off wing for one timers and for the life of me dont know why. They always dust it off to "pick their spot" but all that does is give the goalie time to get over and whoever to try to block it, then our guy realizes it and passes it back to the D. Rinse and repeat. SHOOT!! You should accidentally score on a 5 on 3 for a full 2 minutes. We should have forfeited the 2 pts just because our PP is so inept.
Looks like the enemy enforcer in Goon 2
There is no other sport where chasing someone down to fight would be tolerated. The league has lost control. This is no longer a sport.
first time i've heard of o'brien, probably the last too lol
I'm glad I wasn't the only person taht saw that and was like - wth is this goon doing?
Oh, Blais was fully aware of what was going on and chose the strategy of ignoring the shit out of him.
0:05 “Dear Ron McLean! Dear Coach’s Corner!” If you know, you know.
Slap Shot revisited! 😎
This is the thing that's bugging me in hockey right now. Guys will be happy to lay in an early "message" hit but then are super chickensh*t when it comes to payback. I see this time after time, dude sends a goalscorer to the quiet room for concussion protocol but won't fight and spends the rest of the game looking for the refs to protect him. Blais pretending he has no idea anyone would even be mad at him is peak cowardice. If you want to send a message, be prepared to accept an answer to that message.
O’Brien has made a career eating punches. Easily the most expendable member of the the 22’ Avs team.
Edit: thought he was part of the 22 cup team. I was wrong.
That was a good one, you think he would go on a vegan diet.
Ref Interference should be a thing.
He knew like come on he definitely knew
Of course he knew. He was just concerned with other things and knew OBrien couldn’t do a thing to hurt him but ignoring him would make him grab a second penalty to the first. Genius play by Blais and awesome statement not flinching at a broken stick on his side.
Let alone Blais made OBrien his personal bitch all that night. Literally hunted him and hurt him all night long.
0 for 7 on the PP, with the 2 man advantage? Seems like the Blues should be worried about that instead of O'Brien's antics.
I'm not surprised it's O'Brien and Dumba taking back to back stupid penalties.
BLUES MENTIONED 💪🏻💙⚜️💛
O'Brien was having pms, poor baby
Thats a legit assault case smh
You’re soft
@@mc-fu9syyou can't take a joke
@benkenobi_ Right.???? 🤣🤣🤣 I thought it was PAINFULLY OBVIOUS it was a joke, lighten up @mc-fu9sy. There's much more to life than trying too insult people at 3 am on youtube 🤣🤡
Leafs need Reaves to be like Mcbain.
Would of love the leafs to respond like this on marchard
Players nowadays don't seem to understand enforcing. If your guy gets hit hard, but it's clean, you either cleanly hit him back later or one of their star players. Dropping the gloves is for dirty or reckless plays that could lead to injury.
“I’m dumbahhh” .. hopefully durzi doesn’t pick up bad habits from that guy
I was there. best game I’ve ever went to
As a Coyotes fan, that wasn’t their proudest moment. He looked a bit “special” during the play. As bad as their game was, the worst of the season, that altercation was twice as bad
Leafs, take note. This is how you respond!
Matt Dumba boarding dudes? Nahhhh that's crazy.
When you lay someone out you have to expect to fight.
😂😂😂 What a stupid comment.
For punishment, send O'Brien to the Sabres. We sure could sure use some of that
How’s the Yotes PIMs compared to the Habs?
I almost feel bad for Liam. He gets beat up so much.
10 game suspension would suffice.
Learned from the bertuzzi school of hockey.
@SaintPatrick33
Hardly, Saint Swiven...Big Bert took out a piece of trash, who hurt three of the greatest in the game, at that time.
I've asked myself, how many careers did Bertuzzi help, when he did what the NHL wouldn't!
Bettman wanted Little Stevie Moore in the game, as his dirty playing filled seats. Idiots came to see who he'd hurt next!
Likely, people of your ilk.
If only the Blues had an enforcer...😢
Maybe the hit on Kyrou will actually get his butt in gear. He's been terrible so far.
I don't care about this particular game, but this was a nice summary.
Kid looks like a poor man’s Ryan O’Reilly
The hunt and the hunted new strategy in the NHL. #24 two minutes for Hunting!
Blais laid him out! Good check ✔️ ✅️
That Dumba hit was a BIT weak as a boarding call
Tbh that was a dirty hit on cooley and I am a Habs fan. The guy should answer for stuff like that if he is going to take cheap runs at guys.
Looks like Charles Manson on skates
Wow the yotes are going nowhere with that lack of discipline
that Obrien guy need help
I think O'Brien did his job anybody who does not think that is a soft person and should not be watching hockey
Blues should have sent out there goon to answer the bell if he didn't want to fight. Point is, someone's fighting either way. Does the code not exist anymore?
@@lordzhangfei7534 sadly it's dying bruins fan here and that's the reason you guys won the cup the bruins were legit scared of you guys put in the 2011 team would of been one hell of a series even though it was fun
Hockey is just the best
O'Brien is the worst hockey player to step foot in the NHL
Gudas
That boarding call on Dumba was HORRIBLE! They were shoulder to shoulder, guy was 1 foot from the boards and the puck was right there at his feet - a fight for possession. The guy did have his numbers (back) to Dumba heading into corner, but then turned as he approached the boards to play the puck. And AGAIN he was only a foot from the boards at contact. Dumba ddnt get his stick or elbows up or in any way target the head. Just a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE call on a solid clean hit on a hard play for a 50/50 puck. ESPECIALLY considering AZ was alrdy down a man. AZ had a right to be p****d at that point. **Puck drop WAS kickass!**
Either way, its still Checking From Behind, which is against the rules as well. One gets called by the boards and the other never gets called at all. Go figure.
@@bangyahead1 So what you are saying is that Blais should have been called for Boarding for the hit on LOB, as well as a major for Check to the Head on Kerfoot?
Should send him to boston or tampa since they all play like that there
Can anyone explain to me why throwing your gloves while chasing someone, completely unaware, is not instigating?
Like, what are the rules?
Is it "Blay" or "Blaze"?
I love O'Brien and the energy he brings to the Coyotes, but fights after every large hit is not needed or wanted in the NHL
Yeah it is, obviously you don't know what real hockey then. Take your sissy rules and go watch some other sport and don't complain about it. It's people like you that ruined our game.
0 for 7. woof
Shades of Bertuzzi
I didnt know samy zane was in the nhl
lol fr
What's with Coyote players fighting guys who still have their gloves on? Choking cowards.
Is there video evidence of Liam O'Brien ever winning a fight in the NHL?
Old time hockey
That's a classic Blues hit, he didn't really know any better.
O'brien reminds me of captian caveman. 😂😂😂
Blais straight up new what was going...he chose to try and ignore it though.
We need O’Brien on the pretty boys team (the Toronto Maple Leafs).
That was not an open ice hit by Blais….hits have intent, Blais just let the collision happen.
There is a difference.
Military Appreciation Night. M.A.N. I like that!

Ref should have called interference the audacity of that goal. Also extremely embarrassed of O’Brien coming from a coyotes fan. But good game Blues!
He's going out of his mind!
O'Brien should be suspended; he was really dumb and Dumba was dummer!
boarding is a terrible gray area penalty based on refs bias where clean hits end up being a shit penalty, you shouldn't be punished for playing defense.
The severity of the penalty will be based upon the degree of violence of the player’s impact with the boards. There is a considerable amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the Referees. The duty is on the Player applying the check to ensure their opponent is not in a defenseless position and if so, they must avoid or minimize contact. However, in determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put themself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the check or whether the check was unavoidable may be considered. Bro is playing defense period and when you get the puck for half a second in the nhl you are going to get hit if you are sitting there.
Liam is an Irishman and his name is pronounced Lee-am.
I would not mind my team leading the league in penalties except so many of them are so dumb. Love O'Brien but that was stupid, then Dumba says well if you think that's stupid watch me. Nice that the penalties were killed but makes for a pretty lopsided game when you are spending around 25% of the game killing penalties and of course getting outshot 33-20.
Blais is a turtler!
I love it ❤#makehockeygreatagain
This has some major Todd bertuzzi vibes to it
Clean hit. Get off the ice if you can’t handle your teammates being laid out clean. Fake tough guy o brien
