“Irritating I know, or are you afraid..?” That quote always stuck with me. To play this whole game over again for the first time it was just brilliant.
“What am I supposed to say? You tell me it’s my decision..but I don’t have a choice, do I?” That line alone right there really sums up everything about Tidus. He didn’t choose any of this, it was thrusted upon him. He really doesn’t have any choice
I have watched this scene so many times that I must know it by heart now Auron's voice is so calming and reassuring. Whenever you have a bad day, his voice always seems to reassure you.
Auron To me really feels like the Father figure Tidus never had, and the scenes with him really push that relationship, I love that out of everyone, Tidus is more open and honest with him. He’s the Uncle in his life that he needed, the parent figure that nurtures and scolds him when at times where he succeeds and fails. This Semi-father and son dynamic hits really hard and I love every bit of it!
Even though this father role was thrust on to him, Auron is a great father. He’s not everything Tidus needed but he’s a guiding hand. I find Auron’s laugh to be probably the best part of this scene. Auron following Jecht’s request and Tidus lashes out at him for it. You can hear the pain in Auron’s laugh. For someone who is revered as this legendary guardian one of his first scenes in Spira with just Tidus reveals he’s just one of us
Auron is such a badass, Tidus is there losing his mind but he just remains so cool and composed. He's easily 1 of the greatest things to come out of Final Fantasy.
funny thing about this scene is that this is one of the rare moments where Auron laughs, and its by far the hardest he has ever laughed. and for Auron I think the reason he laughs so hard is because tidus really ain't lying though, it really is all Auron's fault that tidus is even in spira, so when the kid starts running at him blaming him for everything, he couldn't really help but laugh about the whole thing cause its all true.
Whats funny is, you could also be what Yuna does in the next scene, making himself laugh at the whole situation. He just has a lot more practice. When you look at it that way, the scene that follows that gets so much scorn takes on yet another dimension of grim-ness
people give tidus crap for being whiny but if you say you wouldnt act the same if you were on top of the world, then in one instance, for what seems like no reason you had literally everything taken away from you and thrust into a world you didnt understand, having a role forced upon you, your a downright liar. sure, hes a whiner. but hes a whiner whos knee deep in shit he doesnt understand, and no-one around him really tries to help him understand except auron
Plus he was young and so was yuna they both grew together and this game transcends time because it is an amazing game you can play more than once. I hope ffx 3 is as good as this was
Even as a kid playing this game for the first time, I never saw Tidus as "whiny". I always thought Tidus acted the way anyone would act, even me. Hell i felt the same way Tidus did in the game as we got ripped away from Zanarkand and being a star athlete/celebrity to being in a world that is barely explained to you (both tidus and the player) and people treat you as if you are a nobody/a piece of crap until you meet Wakka (and even then, people reject you even after showing your immense skill in the blitzball field and calling for Wakka instead, the one talent and defining trait that made Tidus stand out even in the beginning of the game) I wanted so badly to go back to Zanarkand just like Tidus (until the middle part of the game where Auron reveals he is dead, Zanarkand was a dream and Yuna's eventual demise, as well as the ruins of Zanarkand) because the devs did a great job at making you feel as if you are a stranger to this world. Its only after both Tidus and the player realize the gravity of the situation, that you BOTH grow and accept the situation and the responsibility that comes with it.
It really is a testament to the skill of the writers that they could drop the "Sin is Jecht" bomb on the player so early in the story, without ruining some of the later, even bigger bombshells that come with that revelation. The way they just destroy Tidus' entire world after the Blitzball tournament, (Finding out Yuna is part Al Bhed, which introduces Tidus to the web of little white lies that ties Spira together, seeing how different Blitzball is, and even just the realization that there was no "going home" for him) culminating in this, It's just brilliant. He doesn't question how it's possible, or why, or anything like that. He is just so childish at this point, so irrational, he is just lashing out. I just love this moment at 3:11, where the wave of irrational emotion dies down, and they let it all just sink in, and that little fade to dark for a moment, then they cut back to the same shot, but with Auron facing away, and you see that first real sobering change in Tidus' character, where he knows for sure that fantasy of going back to Zanarkand is over, and Spira is his new reality. In the very next scene is where you see him start to embrace that reality, bonding more with Yuna, in one of the most reviled scenes in the game, that is actually possibly one of the best and most important, people just see it without context and ruin it.
This game is probably the peak of the final fantasy series because of its engaging and compelling storyline and most of its character being developed and being likable, this scene was probably some of the best in the series as well. I felt like the final fantasy series pretty much took a nosedive in quality after this one tbh.
I totally agree with everyone who says tidus reaction to being rip away from his home is understandable. Also really know one is at fault here. Auron was just trying to keep his promise to his friend. And neither jecht nor braska knew that jecht would become the next sin
yeah dude... this part was so sad, i could totally feel tidus... like... yeah. as well i love the quote Sin is Jecht. its like the first hting that pops into my head when i think of this game. then i think of the amazing narritive and story and everything. tidus is an amazing character. awesome game.
This scene is one of the highlights in the entire game for me. Even watching it now I still get goosebumps when Auron says "Sin is Jecht" and Wandering Flame comes on. I was so excited to play the HD remaster until I heard the remastered soundtrack... Some of the remasters sound great, but they absolutely ruined Wandering Flame which actually makes me not want to play it, as it is my favorite OST in FFX.
you're totally right i agree with you. i'm playing the game right now and the normal battle theme is better but wandering flame and mt. gagazet is worser than before don't know why they changed it that lot but there are more themes that are originally better just like the boss battle themes
i completely played this game again without the remastered soundtrack it didn't seem right with me. I remember hating this game when i was young and thinking ff7-9 were gods compared but i tried playing it again and i loved it so much..bought ff9 before 10 and beat 10 first on steam. A lot of the dialogue was kind of bad and didn't make too much sense without questioning.
Yeah the remastered Soundtrack is most of the time bullshit. And the english translation is weird, for example this german translation is said to coming from the japanese one. In the last cutscene, Yuna says to Tidus "I love you" the german translation for this was "thank you" in german, what the hell :D
Tidus: "Why did it have to be me?" Auron: "Ject asked me to." Tidus: "Is he alive?" Auron: "It depends on what you mean by alive. He is...no longer human... but then I felt something of Ject there in that shell.. couldn't you? You must of felt him. when you came in contact with Sin." Tidus: "It can't be...." *Cue music Wanderingflame* Auron: "It is. Sin is Ject." Tidus: "No! That's ridiculous! No way! I don't believe you!" Auron: "But it is the truth. You'll see for yourself. Come with me." Tidus: "If I say no?" Auron: "Every story must have an ending." Tidus: "I don't care about your stories!!" Auron: "I see... sorry you feel that way. Fine then. Come or don't come it's your decision." Tidus: "ARGH!!!! What am I suppose to say?!? You tell me it's my decision. But I don't have a choice do I? You're the only one that can tell me what's going on anyways. I have to go with you I have to!" Auron: "Irritating… I know.... or are you afraid?" Hand on Tidus's back/shoulder Auron: "It's alright." Such emotion. Such a powerful scene. FFX is the BEST.
in all fairness, tidus is only 17. god knows i was a whiny little twerp when i was his age too. (not to mention this would be pretty heavy news for anyone to hear)...love this game.
He has a right to whine a bit Tidus has to kill his father. I mean when he finds out what happens to Ject, He has to realize Ject dying is the endgame.
@@azai247 not to mention he had basically gotten everything taken from him when his town was destroyed and transporting thousands of years in the future.
This... *this* is the FFX-3 that I've always wanted to see. Zaon and Yunalesca go on a mission with others to stop the machina war between Zanarkand and Bevelle but tragically can't stop her father Yu Yevon from going insane and summoning Sin in revenge.
i'm watching this with youtube's transcriptions and it somehow got "Zanarkand" right wow haha it thinks Auron is saying "people ok, up" when he's laughing though lmao
our german trancscriptions doesn't fit 100% to the english voices in the end yuna says to tidus that she loves him on german she only says thanks (danke)....
LinkinHand Not the translations on the screen, I mean CZcams's transcriptions. If you click "CC" in the bottom right corner of the video, you have an option that allows the program to try and translate the video to your language, and it listens to the video and puts up what it thinks the video says. Unfortunately, it's never accurate and it always spells things wrong (and makes up words), but somehow it says "Zanarkand" right. It thinks 'Jecht' is "object" and 'Yuna' is "you", and it thinks the sound of walking means they're saying "on".
“Irritating, I know.. or are you afraid?” Wow what a line
A very powerful scene indeed. To be as lost as Tidus is and to be a dead man clinging to a promise. Very very emotional
Yes sir!! Agreed, so profound indeed.
"Outside the dream world, life can be harsh--even cruel, but it is life." - Auron
"Jecht wanted you to have a shot in life."
“Irritating I know, or are you afraid..?” That quote always stuck with me. To play this whole game over again for the first time it was just brilliant.
It aged well and it benefited greatly from the hd remaster.
I'll be honest I think Tidus' voice is awesome
Obi-Wan Kenobi as well
Ratchet too.

oh and jack sparrow form Kingdome hearts
He’s a beast!!
Aurons voice though

Poor Tidus. Auron is a harsh mentor, but he has to be.
Loved when "Wandering Flames" started and there was a note saying "the best song in the entire game.. wandering.
It really is the best song!
It is. Others are up there too but Wandering Flame is the real theme of this game.
Auron is such a badass, Tidus is there losing his mind but he just remains so cool and composed.

I always thought his reason for laughing was because jecht had told auron about uow much of a crybaby he was and it probably reminded him of that
Whats funny is, you could also be what Yuna does in the next scene, making himself laugh at the whole situation. He just has a lot more practice.

"Every story must have an ending." Ah, I get it, because Tidus is a story in the fayth's mind
More like a dream in a the fayth sleep. They can only sleep and chant the song.

Plus he was young and so was yuna they both grew together and this game transcends time because it is an amazing game you can play more than once. I hope ffx 3 is as good as this was
Auron kept his cool. But he knew. He's the only one that could keep tidus on a straight path without going insane.

The most powerful final fantasy story. This should have been the final fantasy. It was too real....
But it was just a dream

Have you tried FF7 Rebirth?
