      @@MrMagoo-rg8er he is ethical, but that doesn't have to stop him from feeling remorse. His friends went to their deaths for nothing, in his eyes. Of course he feels regret.

    • @Impalingthorn
      @Impalingthorn Před 9 měsíci +2

      He didn't do anything wrong necessarily, be he DID effectively participate in helping guide two of his best friends to their deaths unwittingly under the guise that it would save the world and no such thing happened. He helped them become sacrificial lambs, and all for nothing. And he lives with that. Even when he had the realization that summoners were just paw s being used in a sick game, he was powerless to do anything to stop it and was dealt a fatal blow by Yunalesca, the proceeded to crawl all the way back from Zanarkand through Gagazet back to the Ronso in shame before dying, and the guilt was so strong and compelling it kept him a stable unsent for years.
      Auron didn't "do anything wrong", he just failed to protect the people closest to him and it cost him everything, a wisdom he now parses along to Tidus believing he's going to accomplish what he wasn't able to.

    “”legendary guardian?” I was just a boy: a boy about your age, actually. I wanted to change the world, but I changed nothing.”
    This is the one statement that has stuck with me since I was very young. I will never forget it, and even now just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye.
    How many young men strive to become someone the world remembers and make a change, yet fail despite their efforts? What Auron says here is so powerful, and it resonates more with me now that I am older.

    • @Impalingthorn
      @Impalingthorn Před 9 měsíci +3

      Auron is a man who got humbled in the most brutal way possible and lived on as a ghost to pass his wisdom to others... a bad**s ghost swinging a big sword and giving the most grounded advice out of any cast member.
      Newer players always think he's just being edgy until they realize he's not just talking out his **s, he's speaking from lived experience and suffering. And watching people play this game for the first time is always a joy watching them reach those kinds of realizations, just those gut wrenching "Oh.." moments. I lived for them.
      I can never experience this game for the first time ever again, but seeing other people play it for their first time almost makes up for it

    It’s no wonder I loved video games like these growing up. The dialogue was so ahead of its time and enjoyable. “My resolve wavered.” Auron had such a great vernacular and I loved how his character stood back and watched. He didn’t try to convince any one what he learned, just watched them go through it as he did. Letting them come to the revelation on their own, how all of the teachings were just warm blanket of lies to keep people from losing hope.

    Auron was a great grounded counterweight to most of teams forced optimism about the summoner’s pilgrimage. He didn’t care to hide how he truly felt about Spira’s customs that continued to send young people to their deaths so men whose time had passed could continue to rule. Overall Auron’s a X/X character

  • @2Good2BeTrue45
    @2Good2BeTrue45 Před 7 měsíci +11

    Auron is not only a character of true introspection, he is imbued with a very humble spirit. Due to those characteristics, the man severely undersells himself to a fault and thats how it is with people of that personality type, especially when wrestling with regret and responsibility.
    He changed everything. Without Auron and his iron will/burning desire for justice and his unyielding loyalty, the stories events do not fall in motion. No one would know the truth about Yevon and Yunalesca's deception, Kimhari doesn't get to Bevelle in time to get to Yuna to be her protector and Tidus doesn't have a guide to get to Spira and become strong enough to take down his father when the time comes. Not only was he the most physically strong out of the group to get them to battle Sin and win, he was the only one to get the group to see the bigger picture, the deception being played as a whole, fill in the blanks they didn't know and be the gas fuel to their engine. Auron was literally the arbiter for change and essentially the true hero of FFX.

    Sin dies and comes back over and over again, people die and live, and the adventure of the summoner and their guardians repeats all the time. Auron truly wanted Tidus to make things different, to break the cycle, and the way is implemented with him repeating the cycle in the past is amazing

    When you first play through the game it might seem like Auron is being too aggressive about completing the pilgramage, but as the lies of Yevon get exposed and you get to the scene. You might have an inkling that Auron is very aware of what's going to happen and maybe even have it figured out. He's just so frustrated with all of it and he wants to see change but he knows everyone but Tidus needs to know the truth or they'll never accept what he's saying. Hell he might've even been furious at Wakka for snapping at Rikku for being an Al bhed, like it's just another reminder of how bad Yevon's brainwashing has been.

    His resolve wavered it finally sunk in even tho he knew braska would die it became real now they were at the gates of zanarkand with braska obtaining the aeon. He says “legendary guardian? I was just a boy” meaning naviety. Yevon spouts that guardians are the exalted protectors of summoners Auron now knows it’s Bull when it comes to a friend dying and sees through what yevon is. Even tho he knows the truth of it all he’s still respectful and hush hush of those who are devout he doesn’t reveal. There is an interesting bit of dialogue between tidus and Auron under macalania which describes what I mean with Auron. Auron mentions yevons in turmoil and tidus says he could care less about yevon etc. Auron responds basically people still believe in it because they don’t know the truth. He then adds a time of great pain is coming. Meaning he knows the damage it will bring when the truth is finally revealed about yevon when for a thousand years it’s been revered as the only way.

      What do you find smug about him? In the story, whenever his title "legendary guardian" came up in conversation, it made him uncomfortable. He took no pride in a title he didn't earn or deserve in his eyes. To him, he was a "legend" because he was a miserable failure, and this speech is the climax of all those moments in the story when he'd side-step that whole "legendary" bit, and to my memory, he only ever used his status as an advantage to get the party further down the road.
