Freddie said he was honored that a super star like her agree to meet a simple man like him.
He was a big fan of her. He sad she had the most beautiful voice he had ever heard. This was like a dream come true for Freddie. In an interview with Montserrat she said: ''I loved Freddie and he loved me. I think those people that were touched by Freddie couldn't help but fall in love with him

I love watching their Barcelona videos. It's fun watching Freddie NoT be able to run all over the stage so UP he goes on toes, wild hand & arm gestures - that energy HAD to come out somewhere. And the way he grabs & kisses Montsy's hand throughout just makes my heart melt. They really did become friends during the course of this. And she, opera diva that she was, enjoyed Freddie's creative talent. Of course, Freddie was in awe of her too. Mutual admiration & respect for each other shows in the videos, the interviews, and the album. THANKS for YOUR Reaction!

Great video I’m glad brother in law Hank enjoyed it. It’s true there really was nothing vocally Freddie couldn’t do. He stands his own here with one of the best voices in the world. I loved how he held and kissed her hand. You can see he respected her as a vocalist and was so happy to be there on stage with her. I’d love to see more from the Barcelona album.

So great that you liked it, Hank. It's Freddie, but also in a totally different surrounding.
They were frontrunners with the crossover of classical and pop/rock music. Many came afterwards with similar projects.

Thank you so much for this. Queen was not in the studio, they were taking a break. It was after the Wembley concerts in '86 and Freddie had said no touring for him at that time. Perhaps Freddie even connected with Dave Clark on his TIME project then. Also Freddie finally got to spend time writing and working with Montserrat. Tho' his health wasn't a known issue at that time - as he became more involved with the Barcelona project he confided w/ Montserrat re '92 he wouldn't be able to participate. How wonderful they left their collaboration for us.

Montserrat Caballe, 'La Superba'. was one of the three greatest operatic sopranos of her century,. After Mercury's death, she declared that her pleasure was that the daring experiment had paid off: that a younger generation of people who perhaps mistrusted opera, began to reconsider. She would have been delighted by your response. (She was famous, by the way, for her breath control on high pianissimos. In her very last note here, she holds back her volcanic vocal power, graciously handing the final cadence to the boy whom she had come to love, and who was dying.)

One of my favourite stories is about this amazing collaboration between two giants from totally different musical worlds. It occurred I believe early on in their burgeonjng, deep friendship, when Monteserrat said to Freddie, "What's the matter...? You Only want to sing One song with me...?". Freddie just stared at her speechless . She then continued, " How many songs are there on a rock type album...?"
He mumbled a reply, Still feeling a little overawed by her, " er... 10... I suppose, usually...."
Her response was immediate stating adamantly, " Fine...! Then we'll do 10..!!".
Freddie later admitted that his jaw almost hit the floor..!
You are no doubt aware that during the whole process, each became the target of highly negative comments, with dire consequences for each forecast., should they continue. Some even claimed that Montserrat was "betraying" her operatic heritage. But each was steadfast and determined to proceed. The video clip you feature, was actually the first public performance of it at the prestigious "Ku Club" on the island of Ibiza and as one can see, it was greeted with insatnt rapturous acclaim. Monteserrat and Freddie had emphatically proved their detractors to be totally wrong. It was subsequently unanimously selected as centerpiece for the city of Barcelona's successful bid to host the 1992 Summer Olympics. Many still claim that that "Opening Ceremony" was the best ever. It was hoped that they would perform the piece live at the ceremony. But the fates tragically decreed otherwise. There is however another even more spectacular video , performed at the "La Nit" Centro de Cultura in Barcelona in 1988 as part of the official celebrations to welcome the Olympic flag to the city.
Aftre Freddie's demise Montserrat never performed the piece again, preferring to keep it sacred as a lasting tribute to her cherished friend and collaborator. Sadly the legendary Montserrat herself, passed away in 2018 and the world suddenly became both, a little colder and greyer..!

I think that you will agree, It seemed an unlikely pairing, two giants from opposite musical worlds together and yet when we actually hear them..Pure sysmbiosis.. As though angels got together and decided to make a dream come true... Keep Up Your Good Work..!!

Queen went through a mini break up at this time period. They didn't perform again as the group Queen until they were asked to perform at Live Aid. That's why many did not expect them to do very well at Live Aid because they hadn't performed as a band for a while. But did Queen ever surprise all of them at Live Aid! 'Barcelona' was originally released in 1987 in the UK when it made #8 in the chart. It peaked at #2 when re-released in 1992 for the Olympics
